Green Shadow, who is Green Shadow? A snake? She seemed to recall a mention of it in the original book, but she couldn't remember.
"I heard that the divine doctor can control snakes. There are always many snakes around her. That woman is the most beautiful in the entire continent. Back then, she completely overshadowed my mother. However, the divine doctor has an eccentric personality and rarely shows herself. Few people know what she really looks like."
Li Xiaoxiao felt like she had thought of something, but she couldn't quite make it out, so she had to put the idea down for the time being.
Wu Xinyue continued, "Perhaps this is the reason why Xiaoxiao is so powerful. I don't know what that miracle doctor did when you were in my belly."
The table in the house, which was fairly large, was a bit small. Jiang Wanqing sat next to Fu Yi, and several times when she picked up some food, she touched the man's somewhat cold hand. Both of them were momentarily dazed, and she quickly pulled her hand away. Fortunately, it was just a brief touch.
This is a mountainous area very close to the city, and not much rice is grown here. Today I'm making pumpkin porridge, stir-fried wild ferns, wild mushrooms, and cabbage.
As Chen Fen ate, she said, "I saw Wen Tao when I was harvesting vegetables today. He greeted me a few times and seemed quite happy, I don't know what it was about."
The family knew that Wentao and Fu Yi had never gotten along, so they fell silent. Jiang Jianjun was particularly annoyed, saying, "Honey, stop bringing up Wentao all the time."
Chen Fen took a bite of food and said, "Why are you angry again? You're always causing trouble."
Jiang Xing quickly changed the subject, "Mom, I'm telling you, there's a policy this year that's lowering the number of students admitted through the college entrance exam, so I have a chance this year."
"As long as there's hope, Mom will sell more vegetables tomorrow. These food coupons are being phased out, so for the sake of the children, we have to shamelessly do some business. Jianjun, the brigade leader, can't even afford to pay the children's tuition, yet he still clings to that air." Chen Fen's attention was immediately diverted.
Jiang Wanqing's parents both loved to talk, and their voices were loud and rough. After a while, she clutched her head and complained of a headache. "Dad, Mom, please speak more quietly. I'm sick and you're making my head spin."
Chen Fen was unhappy. "You brat, you're getting married soon and you still have such a bad temper."
She casually added, "I'm not marrying Wentao anymore. My brother said that Wentao said behind my back that I'm from the countryside and not good enough for him." Jiang Wanqing's abrupt words silenced the entire room, and Fu Yi suddenly gave her a strange look.
"What? Wentao actually said that? He usually seems quite refined, but I don't like hearing him say that. What's wrong with being from the countryside?" Chen Fen threw down her chopsticks.
Jiang Xing quickly smoothed things over, "Mom, let's discuss this later, let's eat."
Chen Fen was still furious. She picked up her chopsticks, chewed her food vigorously, and said indignantly, "That Wen Tao is a real scoundrel. He would have been better off marrying Fu Yi. He has a good temper, works hard, and is meticulous. He can even teach Jiang Xing how to do his homework perfectly. I really don't know what my sister was thinking."
Jiang Wanqing's body stiffened. Her mother was straightforward and spoke without any restraint, as if she desperately wanted to marry someone else.
Fu Yi's chopsticks stopped abruptly, and his face turned red.
Jiang Xing quickly put some food into Chen Fen's bowl. "Mom, stop talking so much. Eat your food. Your sister made such a fuss about marrying Wentao before. She's just eating here, so let her talk less."
Jiang Jianjun blushed and quickly reminded her, "Honey, stop talking. Are you going to eat or not?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Fen realized what was happening, and her expression became somewhat subtle. She glanced at Fu Yi, knowing that family matters shouldn't be discussed in public, and could only smile and say, "Come on, let's eat. If you don't want to marry me, then you don't have to. You can sell vegetables with me anyway."
Jiang Xing put some food on Fu Yi's plate to ease the tension. "Fu Yi, don't be angry. My mom was just praising you. She didn't mean anything by it. Don't take it to heart."
Fu Yi quickly swallowed his rice and replied in his spare time, "Mhm, I know."
Chen Fen was still unwilling to give up. "What's wrong? Wanwan is so beautiful, and she's the village beauty. Doesn't she deserve you?" After saying that, she continued eating.
Jiang Wanqing wanted to dig a hole and crawl into it right now, because her mother had such a social butterfly syndrome.
With Fu Yi present, the family didn't say anything more. The dishes on the table were quickly gone. Fu Yi didn't eat much before putting down his chopsticks and sitting to the side. When everyone had finished eating, he made an excuse to go back and rest.
The family had almost finished eating. Jiang Wanqing washed the dishes, and the family sat down at the large table, with Jiang Jianjun also fiddling with food nearby.
"I'm afraid she won't be able to get married. Wentao kept urging her to get a spot to return to her hometown, but now that spot has been given to Fu Yi. If she marries him, she'll only suffer. Besides, someone is eyeing my position as the brigade leader. If someone gets hold of something against me, do you think A-Xing will still be able to take the college entrance exam?"
Chen Fen agreed with this reasoning and was terrified. She whispered, "If you don't want to marry me, then don't. You've only just turned 18, and you have a monthly salary of fifty yuan to support your family. It shouldn't be difficult."
......
In the afternoon, Jiang Jianjun also posted a list of educated youth returning to their hometowns on the village's bulletin board, and Wen Tao was not on it.
The educated youth and villagers glanced at it and then dispersed, but Wentao stared in disbelief for a long time, practically pressing his face against the bulletin board.
Jiang Wanqing watched from afar, secretly relieved, and a smile quietly appeared on her lips as she prepared to leave. But as she turned a corner, she bumped into something hard.
"Ouch, it hurts so much!" How could there be a pillar here? She looked up and saw a terrifying-looking man standing in front of her.
"Hey, Fu Yi, what are you doing standing here?"
Fu Yi glanced at her a few times, his tense face revealing a hint of curiosity. "You seem quite happy?"
Happy? What the heck? Why is this man saying these things to her out of the blue?
"Jiang Wanqing, since you haven't married Wen Tao yet, I'm kindly reminding you to be careful of his revenge," Fu Yi said, seemingly out of nowhere.
