Seeing Hu Mao's pitiful state, Li Xiaoxiao was about to say something when Gui Sujuan immediately knelt on the ground and hurriedly followed up, "Master, my husband is a rough man and doesn't know any manners. Please forgive him."
Li Xiaoxiao shook her head. "I'm not blaming you, but since your husband is so badly injured, let's move him into the house."
As soon as she finished speaking, Gui Sujuan picked up Hu Mao and carried him into the house, showing no disgust at the fact that the man was covered in mud and filth.
Seeing her eagerness and lack of concern, Li Xiaoxiao reluctantly followed. Once inside the house, Li Xiaoxiao looked at the festering and stinking wound and said, "Juan'er, go and wash his body. Don't you get ten taels of silver every month? Buy him some new clothes."
As soon as Li Xiaoxiao finished speaking, Gui Sujuan carried Hu Mao out to another room. On the way, Hu Mao complained, "You just leave like this without saying goodbye to your master? Your master will be angry with you."
Gui Sujuan's voice was very soft, "Don't worry, our mistress won't be angry. She loves us the most."
As the two walked away, Li Xiaoxiao stared at them in a daze, the image of her carrying Qi Yu on her back replaying in her mind. That man was always so conflicted, yet always so arrogant.
Suddenly I miss that silly man. I wonder if he's really trying. If he isn't, I should grab him and give him a good beating to vent my anger.
An hour later, Gui Sujuan carried the man back again. Hu Mao had been washed clean and was wearing clean clothes. He looked even more handsome and cleaner than before.
This outfit seemed to have been prepared by Gui Sujuan long ago.
"My lady, I've brought my husband with me." Gui Sujuan's face was unusually full of smiles.
Li Xiaoxiao teased, "Juan'er, aren't you afraid of getting hurt like Xueqing?"
Gui Sujuan was confident, "I'm not afraid. I just want my husband to become a better person. If he falls for another woman one day, I will leave."
"Every moment I spend with A-Mao is happiness."
This statement shocked Li Xiaoxiao; their feelings for each other were truly pure.
"Alright, then I'll give this medicine to Hu Mao as a small gift for you. However, he needs a magical beast's leg to stand up again in this lifetime."
If I'm not mistaken, Hu Mao should be a member of the Demon Clan.
"That's alright, Warcraft is fine, I can accept it."
Gui Sujuan continued to express her opinion, but Li Xiaoxiao was unwilling to give up. This silly girl was really too stupid. "Then you'll have to hunt monsters yourself. I don't have that much time. You know I'll be going to other places."
"Forget it, I'm just naturally lazy," Hu Mao interjected, unable to bear sending his beloved woman to that dangerous forest.
"No, I'm going. I don't want to be a coward. I can become strong too."
Li Xiaoxiao was speechless. These two people were practically offering her dog food (a Chinese slang term for witnessing public displays of affection), but she was determined not to let them have their way.
"He's just a cripple. What's the point of treating him? It's better to just let him be a useless person, never able to reach higher or farther places in his life, and only having eyes for you."
Gui Sujuan looked at Li Xiaoxiao and shook her head, "Master, but I love him. You don't know our story. I'll tell you a story next."
In the freezing cold, a woman abandoned her infant daughter, who was found by a passing beggar boy. From then on, the boy would give the little girl a bite to eat whenever he begged.
He would steal from the streets and hunt pheasants in the woods, just so the little girl could have some meat. They were dressed in rags and depended on each other for survival, living in a dilapidated wooden house. Every time, the little girl would only dare to curl up inside the house and wait for him to come back. Every time he opened the door, it would cause the girl a sense of fear, as if he would never come back in this lifetime. The wait was long. As they grew older, the little boy would return with wounds all over his body and food. They lived like this for a very long time.
From the cold winter when they huddled together by the fire to the sweltering summer, the two of them would bathe in the river and catch pheasants in the forest. Gradually, the little boy gained strength and was able to catch larger prey to sell, so the two of them no longer had to beg.
The boy saved up his hunting money for a year and bought the girl a new dress and a new quilt. The boy himself was still dressed in tattered clothes. They swore an oath of marriage to heaven and earth.
Soon after, the girl became pregnant. A local thug took a liking to her, but the boy punched him to the ground. He protected the girl, but a month later, a group of bandits came to the girl's house. They grabbed the girl and threatened the boy to submit. To protect the mother and child, the boy put down his weapon. The group seized the opportunity to grab the boy, who cried and begged, "Let my wife and child go, let my wife and child go, I'll do anything you want."
They brutally chopped off the boy's legs and relentlessly beat them with spiked clubs, leaving him crippled. The group then revealed their true faces with wicked smiles. The leader was a young man who seemed very interested in the young woman, talking about how a fetus could cure certain diseases.
He forced the girl to the ground, ripped open her clothes, and brutally ripped off her unborn child, taking the blood with him. The girl lay on the ground ashen, but even so, they did not let her go. They used black spiritual power to heal her stomach, as if nothing had ever existed inside.
They took the girl away, and she became a woman of the mountain stronghold. On the night she went to the stronghold, the girl slashed her face, leaving it covered in scars, and applied some poison, making her look like a monster. Most of the bandits lost interest in her, but she never stopped encountering all sorts of misfortunes.
The boy went to a brothel and was left with a group of women. Later, the boy became sick, and the women got tired of him and threw him out. He then started begging everywhere, hoping to hire an assassin to take away his poor wife from the mountain village.
Later, he learned that his wife had been rescued and that all the bandits had been burned to death, and the leader of the stronghold had been beheaded. He was worried about his wife, but thinking about his own disheveled state, he decided to use the money he had saved to buy clothes. After buying the clothes, he dared not go to see his wife, fearing that she would not recognize him. So he returned to the small, dilapidated house where they used to live and looked outside.
On the third day, the wife arrived, dressed beautifully, her face disfigured. The two wept together in the small wooden house. The wife knew that her husband was a burden, so she wanted to please the master of the Li family and seek some status so that she could bring her husband back.
Later, the date was delayed again and again, and the woman stayed at the Li family to learn skills so as not to arouse the suspicion of her master. When she finally returned home, she found that her husband was being bullied by a group of thugs.
Enraged, she took her husband to the Li family's residence and built a simple wooden hut in a corner, where she would visit her husband whenever she had free time.
Gui Sujuan couldn't stop crying after she finished speaking, and Li Xiaoxiao's eyes were also a little red. They were so pitiful. This was a darkness she never imagined. How pale and powerless the weak were.
How much torment will they have to endure before Hu Mao becomes the Great Demon Lord?
