He saw a true fairy.
Jiang Jingshu watched the live stream and fell asleep while listening to Xie Zhijin's explanations.
When I woke up again, it was already three o'clock in the afternoon.
She quickly picked up her phone, which contained a message from Xie Zhijin.
Xie: Your uncle wants you to come out for dinner.
Xie: Asleep?
Xie: Is my voice really that soothing?
Xie: Go to sleep, goodnight.
A "goodnight" emoji followed immediately. Jiang Jingshu smiled and then messaged him, "I'm awake."
Soon, there was a knock on the door.
Jiang Jingshu quickly jumped out of bed and opened the door, where Xie Zhijin was looking at her with a smile.
"You're awake?"
Jiang Jingshu nodded shyly. She was a little hungry, so she went straight to the living room, where Xie Zhijin quickly took the rice out of the rice cooker.
"It's still hot?" Jiang Jingshu asked in surprise.
"Uncle said that once you wake up, you don't need to wait if you're hungry; you can eat right away," Xie Zhijin said, serving Jiang Jingshu a bowl of porridge.
Jiang Jingshu took the plate; there were several side dishes on the table. "You're making shrimp so early? I thought we'd have to wait until tomorrow night to eat it."
Xie Zhijin raised an eyebrow, "You like to eat shrimp?"
Jiang Jingshu nodded.
Xie Zhijin quickly took out a shrimp and started peeling it.
"Xie Zhijin, you have so many fans." Jiang Jingshu watched Xie Zhijin's actions and took a sip of porridge.
Xie Zhijin, peeling shrimp, asked, "How did you fall asleep while listening to my live stream?"
Jiang Jingshu didn't tell him, but hearing his voice gave her a strange sense of security. If she could have used this account during her time in City A, she would have been even happier.
She didn't say much to Xie Zhijin, only telling him, "I fell asleep while listening."
"Very good."
"What?" Jiang Jingshu asked him.
“My fans often say they like to fall asleep while listening to my live streams, and I didn’t expect you to be one of them.” Xie Zhijin said slowly, without stopping his actions, as he placed the peeled shrimp in front of Jiang Jingshu. “They weren’t lying to me.”
"Your fans listen to your sleep stream too?" Jiang Jingshu teased him with a laugh. "Then can you still be considered a gaming blogger? You should be called a sleep blogger, right?"
“Some people do watch my technique,” Xie Zhijin said. “However, if my voice can help you sleep soundly…”
"So what?" Jiang Jingshu stared at Xie Zhijin.
Xie Zhijin smiled subconsciously, "I'll start my live stream at 10 PM tonight, you can come and watch."
—
On Lunar New Year's Eve, Jiang Jingshu and Xie Zhijin sat on the sofa in the living room while Jiang Yuan made dumplings.
The TV was playing programs randomly.
Jiang Jingshu was browsing Xie Zhijin's account. "Xie Zhijin, I'll watch your live stream replays when I have insomnia."
The boy raised an eyebrow and said, "It's my pleasure." After saying that, he got up and went to Jiang Yuan's side to help him make dumplings.
Jiang Jingshu also joined in, "Xie Zhijin, you know how to make dumplings."
Xie Zhijin made a small and cute dumpling, and Jiang Jingshu praised him sincerely, "You know so much?"
Xie Zhijin just smiled and didn't say anything.
Jiang Jingshu made up her mind that learning a new skill would also help her improve herself, and maybe it could even serve as nourishment for her agave plants. So she humbly asked for guidance, "Xie Zhijin, can you teach me how to make dumplings?"
Xie Zhijin:?
"Just wait and eat." Jiang Yuan gently tapped his daughter's forehead. "Cooking is a man's job. You just wait there and eat."
How wonderful!
Jiang Jingshu couldn't help but think about it.
However, true happiness is not about waiting for someone to feed you. In addition, Jiang Jingshu wanted to learn new things, such as planting agave. So, she washed her hands and resolutely walked up to the two of them.
He said to Jiang Yuan, "Dad, you go and do other things. You can leave this place to me and Xie Zhijin."
Jiang Yuan could only wash his hands and then call an old friend. The first thing he said was, "Hey, how have you been these past few days?"
Are you making dumplings?
"Oh, my Xiaojing is making dumplings for me."
"My child told me to just wait to eat."
Jiang Jingshu smiled as she looked at Jiang Yuan sitting on the sofa. Then, she turned her head and met Xie Zhijin's gaze.
Jiang Jingshu subconsciously looked away. "Yes, thank you, Teacher Xie."
Jiang Jingshu watched Xie Zhijin wrap dumplings. Xie Zhijin's movements were very skilled and smooth, and he wrapped a small and cute dumpling in no time.
Jiang Jingshu didn't quite understand, so she said, "Xie Zhijin, slow down."
Xie Zhijin glanced at Jiang Jingshu and said, "Take a dumpling wrapper, and let's wrap them together."
Jiang Jingshu obediently picked up a dumpling wrapper, put in the meat filling, and followed Xie Zhijin step by step.
"Fold it in half first."
Xie Zhijin asked softly, his tone gentle. Jiang Jingshu nodded, followed his instructions, and then looked into Xie Zhijin's eyes. "And then?"
"Then pinch both sides together, and then use your thumb and forefinger to squeeze inwards." Xie Zhijin said as he demonstrated to Jiang Jingshu.
Jiang Jingshu hadn't figured it out yet, so she tried it herself, but her attempt was crooked and ridiculous.
Xie Zhijin looked at the dumpling and couldn't help but laugh out loud, which Jiang Jingshu noticed. "Xie Zhijin, are you making fun of me?"
Xie Zhijin just stared at the dumpling and said, "It's very cute."
Jiang Jingshu felt that Xie Zhijin had a problem with his aesthetic sense.
Or perhaps it's to comfort her.
She sighed, "It's so hard."
However, the next second, Xie Zhijin took another dumpling wrapper, filled it with meat filling, handed it to Jiang Jingshu, and said to her, "Try it again?"
Jiang Jingshu only knew how to fold the paper in half, and she looked to Xie Zhijin for help.
The next instant, the unique jasmine scent of the boy filled Jiang Jingshu's body. Her hand was enveloped by a pair of fair, well-defined hands. The boy's voice was soft and gentle, seemingly full of patience, as he said to Jiang Jingshu, "Follow me."
Xie Zhijin held Jiang Jingshu's hand and finished wrapping a whole dumpling.
Jiang Jingshu felt that it was too close.
She had no time to think about how to pinch the two sides of the dumpling together or how to squeeze it inwards with her thumb and forefinger.
Her mind was filled with Xie Zhijin beside her.
My mind is in turmoil.
After she finished making one dumpling, Xie Zhijin asked her to try again.
Jiang Jingshu stared blankly as she operated the machine, her mind filled with the scene of Xie Zhijin's hands-on instruction.
She still hasn't learned it.
Xie Zhijin gently tapped Jiang Jingshu's head. "You're daydreaming, Jiang Jingshu."
What were you thinking when I was teaching you?
What are you thinking about?
Jiang Jingshu simply said to him, "It's all your fault."
"What's it to blame me for?" Xie Zhijin said with a smile, then looked at Jiang Jingshu, and as if he had mustered up his courage, he said again, "It's because I didn't teach you carefully enough. Jiang Jingshu, would you like to learn it again?"
One more time?
Do you provide hands-on instruction?
Jiang Jingshu nodded, but when she couldn't concentrate, Xie Zhijin whispered in her ear, "Watch carefully, don't let your mind wander."
After wrapping several dumplings, Jiang Jingshu finally learned how to wrap them. Although they didn't look very good, it was clear that Xie Zhijin's method was the same.
Teaching by example is truly effective.
She learned how to make dumplings, and she made them better and better than the last. She turned around and gave Xie Zhijin a thumbs up, praising, "Teacher Xie teaches so well!"
Xie Zhijin replied, "It's not that I teach well, it's that you learn quickly."
You are the one with talent, not me.
Xie Zhijin indeed thought so. Jiang Jingshu was very skillful, but she was just not familiar with this. He looked at the girl next to him staring at her work with pride and couldn't help but smile.
—
After wrapping the dumplings, Jiang Yuan came in to see the two children's work. Looking at the few crooked dumplings in front of Jiang Jingshu, he couldn't help but laugh.
Then he took a picture of those crooked dumplings with his phone.
At 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve, Jiang Jingshu's house was bustling with activity. The Spring Festival Gala was playing on TV, and the three of them were having their New Year's Eve dinner together.
Jiang Yuan was peeling shrimp for the two children.
The dumplings were cooked and brought out by Jiang Yuan. Each person was given a bowl. Jiang Jingshu looked at the dumplings in her bowl. The dumplings she had made were so obviously different that she knew none of the dumplings in the bowl were made by her.
She glanced at Xie Zhijin's bowl.
As expected, biological mothers can always recognize their own babies at a glance among many children.
Xie Zhijin's bowl was mostly made by her.
Xie Zhijin seemed to realize this as well, and he smiled as he ate a dumpling.
It's delicious.
Jiang Yuan told them that there were two dumplings with coins inside, and they would see who could find the coin by eating them.
Jiang Jingshu's eyes lit up with enthusiasm as she stared at the dumplings on the plate, observing them slowly.
Jiang Yuan was still telling them, "Each person only has three chances."
Jiang Jingshu looked at the one in front of her; it was quite large, so there might be something there.
She picked it up and put it in her own bowl, but it wasn't there.
When it was Xie Zhijin's turn, he didn't get a coin either.
Jiang Yuan was the first to eat it. He grinned and took the coin out of the dumpling, saying to them, "Your chances are running out."
When it was Jiang Jingshu's turn, she still observed carefully. Xie Zhijin looked at Jiang Jingshu's expression and couldn't help but smile, "Jiang Jingshu, do you believe me?"
Jiang Jingshu had no doubt whatsoever, "Of course."
"The one on your right." Xie Zhijin spoke softly, and Jiang Jingshu followed his words, picked up the dumpling, took a bite, and her face lit up with joy.
"Xie Zhijin, how did you know?"
Xie Zhijin simply smiled and said to her, "You will definitely have a lucky year in the new year."
That day, all three of them ate their fill.
After dinner, Su Xiaoyue called just then. Jiang Jingshu answered, and Su Xiaoyue invited her and Xie Zhijin to set off fireworks together.
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Jingshu looked at Xie Zhijin and smiled.
Xie Zhijin asked her, "Is there something on my face?"
Fireworks were going off outside. Jiang Jingshu opened the window, pointed to the sky, and said, "Xie Zhijin, the weather is nice tonight."
The weather is nice tonight; it might be perfect for setting off fireworks.
Fireworks were blooming in the sky outside, reflecting in Jiang Jingshu's eyes. Jiang Jingshu turned to look at Xie Zhijin, "Shall we go set off fireworks?"
The two of them took the fireworks that Jiang Jingshu and Su Xiaoyue had bought earlier and went downstairs.
It was very cold, and Jiang Jingshu was dressed warmly, even wearing a hat. Su Xiaoyue and Wen Jinyan were already waiting downstairs in their apartment complex.
Seeing Jiang Jingshu come down, Su Xiaoyue immediately went over and said, "Jiang Jiang, Happy New Year!"
Jiang Jingshu smiled and said, "Happy New Year, Xiaoyue."
Wen Jinyan was still carrying Su Xiaoyue's bag when Su Xiaoyue immediately turned around and said to Wen Jinyan, "Quickly take out the birthday present I gave to Jiang Jiang?"
Wen Jinyan took the item out of her bag, and Su Xiaoyue handed it to Jiang Jingshu, saying, "Jiang Jiang, I specially chose this cup; it's a matching best friend set with mine."
Jiang Jingshu accepted it with a smile.
The old year ends amidst the sound of firecrackers.
The four of them stood side by side and lit sparklers together.
A sparkler burns for about forty seconds. During those forty seconds, Jiang Jingshu stared at the sparkler in her hand, which was dazzling and eye-catching.
But the boy beside her didn't look at the fairy wand in her hand.
In those forty seconds, he didn't see the dazzling fireworks; instead, he saw Jiang Jingshu, wearing a hat and scarf, with the small hot water bottle he had given her in her pocket.
He clearly saw the brilliance in the girl's eyes.
He held the fairy wand, but looked towards the real fairy.
The fireworks were fleeting, and as Jiang Jingshu watched them disappear, she couldn't help but feel a sense of loss.
Fireworks are beautiful, but they are also fleeting.
But the next second, a new bunch of sparklers appeared in sight.
She seemed to hear a sound beside her.
"Keep burning, so that beauty will never fade."
They played outside for a long time. On New Year's Eve, the streets were brightly lit, and there was not a dark place.
The moon hangs high in the sky, shining on every household.
Everyone in this city seems to be on a countdown.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
The sound of firecrackers rang out, one after another, and along with the sound of firecrackers came the words of the people around me.
She heard him say, "Jiang Jingshu, Happy New Year."
