Keep my promise
In the past few days, Su Xiaoyue has not contacted Jiang Jingshu again, but Wen Jinyan called Jiang Jingshu instead.
After she answered the call, Wen Jinyan only said one sentence.
"She has always considered you her best friend, you shouldn't have told her these things."
Jiang Jingshu lowered her eyes. Yes, she had hurt Su Xiaoyue, but she was unwilling to keep Su Xiaoyue in the dark.
Jiang Jingshu was very, very important to Su Xiaoyue in the past.
She sent Su Xiaoyue a message, "Want to chat?"
"If you're still going to talk to me about science fiction, then we're done talking," Su Xiaoyue replied.
Jiang Jingshu sighed. Perhaps she really shouldn't have explained things so clearly.
Let Su Xiaoyue treat her as the Jiang Jingshu from before.
At least this way, they won't fall out.
More than half an hour later, Jiang Jingshu's phone received another message. She picked it up and glanced at it, but froze on the spot. "Jiang Jingshu, actually I believe you."
Su Xiaoyue told her, "Actually, I believe it."
The two arrived at the coffee shop again, but Su Xiaoyue spoke first, "You asked me to come here again."
Jiang Jingshu smiled and said, "I forgot again."
It seems like nothing has changed; they were chatting in this coffee shop on a similar afternoon before.
"Jiang Jingshu".
Su Xiaoyue simply called Jiang Jingshu's name and then placed the things she had brought from home in front of Jiang Jingshu.
Jiang Jingshu looked at the contents of the box. It was a box of paintings, but the paintings were not very skillful. The style was childish, and could even be described as ugly.
Jiang Jingshu's mind quickly processed the information: "Did she draw this?"
Su Xiaoyue said to herself, "Actually, when you first drew for me, I felt something was strange. All the paintings you gave me before were so ugly, so ugly that I had to collect them one by one. But the first painting you gave me was very beautiful."
Looking at the box of paintings, Su Xiaoyue couldn't help but recall, "Jiang Jiang, like you, also likes to paint and give away paintings. You two are quite similar in that respect, except that her paintings aren't as good as yours. At first, I thought she had someone else paint them because her painting skills weren't very strong. But you won an award in an art competition, and you painted all of these paintings yourself. You even chose art for your college entrance exam."
Jiang Jingshu picked up the paintings, feeling inexplicably sad. She said, "Is that why you believed me?"
Su Xiaoyue shook her head. "No." Su Xiaoyue then took out another phone. "The way you two talk has changed completely."
“Jiang Jiang never calls me Xiaoyue.” Su Xiaoyue looked up at Jiang Jingshu. “She always calls me Su Su.”
“I thought she went through something after she got sick, which is why she was so hot and cold towards me, sometimes close and sometimes distant. It turns out it’s because you’re not her.” Su Xiaoyue’s voice was a little choked up. “Actually, I can tell that the two of you are nothing alike.”
Jiang Jingshu froze on the spot.
“When she was bullied, she would hide behind me, and I would instinctively protect her. You are different. You would seek justice for yourself in your own way. I thought she had grown up and knew how to protect herself. I never thought that the person was not her, but actually you.”
Jiang Jingshu responded with a muffled sound.
"Jiang Jiang, this matter is still too bizarre. Can you tell me again who you are?"
"Xiaoyue, I'm not that Jiang Jiang. I'm from the world two thousand years ago. I'm the seventh princess of Yongning Kingdom. I'm sorry, I lied to you, Xiaoyue." Jiang Jingshu still looked at Su Xiaoyue with remorse, but Su Xiaoyue remained calm, as if she had already anticipated Jiang Jingshu's answer.
After all, no one would joke about something like this.
"I only have one question," Su Xiaoyue said, her voice choked with emotion, "Where has my Jiang Jiang gone?"
This was also the question Jiang Jingshu least wanted to answer. She lowered her head, unsure of what to say for a moment.
"So she's dead?" Su Xiaoyue looked at the silent Jiang Jingshu in front of her.
"The day before she took leave, she suddenly fainted while attending class. The school called 120 (emergency services). Did she die at that time?"
Jiang Jingshu lowered her voice and said, "She had already passed away when I arrived."
As soon as she finished speaking, Jiang Jingshu worried about Su Xiaoyue's reaction. She looked up and saw that Su Xiaoyue was still sitting calmly opposite her, but tears welled up in her eyes and fell onto the table.
Jiang Jingshu felt sorry for her.
Su Xiaoyue seemed to have anticipated this situation, so she didn't react much when she learned about it.
Her heart was filled with sadness, after all, Jiang Jingshu, who had chased after her to protect her and called her "Su Su" all the time, had truly left her.
But her tears still wouldn't listen, always reddening her eyes.
She stubbornly wiped away her tears, but the tears seemed to flow uncontrollably, until she finally couldn't hold back her sobs and buried her face in her arms on the table, weeping bitterly.
Jiang Jingshu stood up gently from her seat. Perhaps she regretted her decision; should she have said those things to Su Xiaoyue?
But she would leave sooner or later.
Jiang Jingshu walked to Su Xiaoyue's side, gently patted her back, and said to her, "Xiaoyue, you can hug me."
Su Xiaoyue got up from the table, her arms covered in tear stains. She threw herself into Jiang Jingshu's arms, seemingly feeling the same warmth as before.
However, the person in her arms was not Jiang Jingshu, with whom she had played for a long time.
"I'll calm down," Su Xiaoyue sobbed. "Jiang Jingshu, thank you for telling me all this."
Jiang Jingshu simply patted her back gently, "I think you have the right to know about this."
Will you leave?
Suddenly, Su Xiaoyue asked.
Jiang Jingshu was stunned. "You can't bear to part with me either?"
Su Xiaoyue, still holding Jiang Jingshu, replied with a sob in her voice, "Otherwise what?"
"I..." Jiang Jingshu didn't know how to express that she would also leave. A breeze blew by, and Su Xiaoyue got out of Jiang Jingshu's arms, her red eyes staring at Jiang Jingshu. "Although, you are not my Jiang Jiang, although my Jiang Jiang is no longer here."
She cried as she spoke, "But over the past year, I have also considered you a very, very good friend."
Jiang Jingshu's eyes welled up with tears. "Don't you think I'm angry that I've kept this from you for so long and continued to act as the Jiang Jingshu I used to be?"
“This is not something you can decide.” Su Xiaoyue sniffed lightly. “You told me before that you were an ancient princess from here. At the time, I thought you were lying to me.”
Jiang Jingshu thoughtfully handed Su Xiaoyue a piece of paper. After taking it, Su Xiaoyue said, "How can anyone believe such a thing when you say it?"
"So, I don't blame you, Jiang Jingshu."
Jiang Jingshu stared at Su Xiaoyue's face. The girl's cheeks were flushed and her eyes were red from the emotional outburst. As Su Xiaoyue said, "I don't blame you, but I won't treat you like Jiang Jiang anymore. Jiang Jiang is irreplaceable in my heart, and so are you. Right now, in my eyes, you two are just two different people." As she spoke, she immediately picked up the suitcase she had brought. "But I need time to process this. Wait until I've processed it before we meet again."
After saying that, she fled in panic.
Perhaps at this moment, it's time for someone to really figure things out.
Jiang Jingshu also needs to figure things out on her own.
She turned around, only to bump into Xie Zhijin's chest.
"What are you doing here?" Jiang Jingshu stared at Xie Zhijin, seemingly curious as to why he was here.
Xie Zhijin didn't say anything; he simply reached out his hand to Jiang Jingshu.
Jiang Jingshu looked at her in confusion, "What are you doing?"
"I will keep my promise." After saying that, Xie Zhijin pulled Jiang Jingshu into his arms.
Jiang Jingshu was somewhat flustered by the sudden hug. It seemed that her brain sensed absolute safety and peace of mind, and sent a command to her body, telling her not to suppress her feelings anymore.
Tears welled up in my eyes.
She remembered Xie Zhijin's words; every tear that Jiang Jingshu shed was caught steadily by Xie Zhijin.
After she calmed down, Jiang Jingshu asked him, "What are you doing here?"
"I originally came to find you." Seeing that she was in a stable mood, Xie Zhijin said to her, "But I saw you and Su Xiaoyue in this coffee shop. I saw Su Xiaoyue crying and you comforting her."
Jiang Jingshu looked at Xie Zhijin quietly, "Why would you think I want to cry too?"
"I feel," Xie Zhijin stared into Jiang Jingshu's eyes, "it's just my feeling, please forgive me for not having your permission..."
Before Xie Zhijin could finish speaking, Jiang Jingshu hugged him again and said, "Thank you."
Xie Zhijin simply sat quietly across from her in the coffee shop and said, "Do you remember when I bought you coffee, it ended up sending you to the hospital?"
Jiang Jingshu's thoughts seemed to drift back to the past, a time that was truly wonderful. "I thought the coffee wasn't working, so I drank half a cup in one go."
“I was terrified at the time,” Xie Zhijin said, taking a sip of coffee. “I never knew that anyone could be allergic to coffee.”
"Thanks to you, I didn't know I was allergic to this." Jiang Jingshu smiled. "It's just that this coffee is really bitter. The more I drank, the sleepier I became. I didn't expect to pass out from drinking it."
The two chatted slowly.
Xie Zhijin asked her, "Jiang Jingshu, has your agave grown any bigger?"
Jiang Jingshu smiled, took out her phone, and handed it to Xie Zhijin.
“The system told me that my growth experience would become nourishment for it,” Jiang Jingshu said.
Despite the sweltering heat, Jiang Jingshu has felt unusually cold these past two days, and her hands are always freezing.
The moment Xie Zhijin took the phone, another warm hand tightly enveloped Jiang Jingshu's hand.
Jiang Jingshu suddenly felt warmth.
But she met Xie Zhijin's worried gaze, "It's the middle of summer, why are your hands so cold?"
Jiang Jingshu smiled indifferently, "I think I've always been like this."
"Is this a side effect of your time travel?" Xie Zhijin asked.
Jiang Jingshu was a little unsure. "I seem to have always been very afraid of the cold, even in the palace."
"Jiang Jingshu, you're not happy being a princess, are you?" Xie Zhijin stared at her.
Jiang Jingshu could read Xie Zhijin's eyes; the emotion conveyed in those eyes was heartache.
"No," Jiang Jingshu said with a smile, changing the subject.
Xie Zhijin simply tightened his grip on Jiang Jingshu's hand.
From now on, he will never let her feel cold again.
