Chapter 17 That's right, I am a bandit.

With everything planned out, Su Yun'er happily made roasted sweet potatoes and cooked brown rice porridge.

After blanching the bok choy I "dug" from the mountains yesterday, I simply mixed it with seasonings and served it as a side dish with rice.

This morning I roasted sweet potatoes that I brought back from the Su family. Under the simmering heat of the charcoal fire, the skin of the sweet potatoes darkened in color, and some of the cracks even oozed sugar and oil. The aroma rose with the heat, and holding one in my hand was a small taste of winter's satisfaction.

The little grass and the little tree were comparing whose sweet potato was sweeter. They took a bite of each other's sweet potatoes, and in the end, they found that they were both sweet. Then they laughed and giggled together.

Seeing her grandchildren so happy, Grandma Chen was also in a good mood.

I don’t know if it was the medicine and food she ate yesterday that worked, but Grandma Chen’s complexion looked much better.

The family was happily eating when suddenly a commotion broke out at the door, accompanied by shouts of cursing, which grew louder as they approached.

"Su Yun'er, come out here!"

A man's voice called out repeatedly at the door, attracting the curiosity of the neighbors.

When Su Yun'er came out to see what was happening, the area outside the door was already crowded with people, and there were also several children sitting on the neighbor's wall, holding bowls of porridge, eating and watching the excitement.

"Su Yun'er, you rude and shameless girl! You actually went back to your parents' house to commit violence and steal things! You've gone too far! Give your things back!"

Upon seeing Su Yun'er emerge, the person became even more agitated, launching into a series of accusations against her.

The man shouting and cursing at the Chen family's gate was Su Tianchen, the eldest grandson of the Su family, and also the cousin who beat Su Yun'er up.

He was accompanied by a very thin woman, his wife Wang Yue'e.

Su Yun'er knew that this was because she had "robbed" the Su family yesterday and beaten Liu Xifeng and her daughter, so the Su family had come to take revenge.

Su Tianchen stood angrily at the entrance of the Chen family's house, one hand on his hip and the other pointing at Su Yun'er, cursing and spitting as he did so.

"What are you doing, throwing excrement in front of my house!" Su Yun'er crossed her arms and looked at him with a face full of impatience.

"You're a member of the Su family who married out, yet you dared to bully your injured aunt and younger sister when no one was home!"

Su Tianchen was quite eloquent; with just a few words, he portrayed Su Yun'er as a cruel and unfilial descendant. Wang Yue'e, on the other hand, stood there silently.

"Fellow villagers, you be the judge! Su Yun'er did such a thing, is she even human? Today, you have to return all the food you stole, and you also have to pay for my mother and sister's medicine!"

"Food? I've already finished eating. Money? No." Su Yun'er crossed her arms and looked at the other person coldly.

Su Tianchen's eyebrows immediately shot up: "You! How come you're like a bandit?"

Before Su Yun'er could refute, someone in the crowd scoffed.

"Hey Su's eldest brother, have some shame! How many times has Su Yun'er been kicked out of your house for not bringing you anything? Everyone in our Da Liushu Village knows that, and you still want things from her? That's outrageous!"

With one person's support, others followed suit and spoke out in defense.

Su Tianchen's expression turned ugly, and he tried to coax them to leave: "Go away, what do you know? You've only heard a few idle words and you're making a scene here."

“Su Tianchen, you said I’m a bandit, that’s right, I am a bandit.”
