"I hate my mother!"
Xiaoshu suddenly shouted, then cried even louder: "Mom doesn't give any food to Xiaoshu and my sister, or even to Grandma. She only gives it to Grandma and Uncle, and she always listens to Grandma and beats us! Mom is a bad person! A bad person!"
Su Yun'er felt a pang of sorrow. The original owner of this body had indeed wronged her two children too much and left them with too deep a psychological shadow.
She pulled the sapling into her arms, gently patted the child's back, and comforted and soothed him.
"Mommy was wrong. Mommy used to be a bad person, but Mommy has figured it out now. Mommy won't be a bad person anymore. From now on, Mommy will save all the good food for the little trees and grass, and for Grandma, okay?"
Whether it was because of the child's tears and cries, or the lingering feelings for the child within the original body, Su Yun'er felt a genuine emotion beyond pity—a mother's love for her child.
Five-year-old children are innocent after all. Hearing Su Yun'er's promise, they were somewhat delighted, but they dared not completely believe it, since their mother had said the same thing before.
Wiping away the snot bubbles from her nose, Xiaoshu still pouted, "Mother's words can't be trusted."
Su Yun'er was both amused and exasperated, but felt mostly heartbroken. Original owner, what kind of sins have you committed?
"Okay, little tree, you'll see what your mother does from now on, okay?"
While coaxing Xiaoshu, Su Yun'er used her consciousness to enter her spatial dimension, quickly picked up three fresh cucumbers, and then, pretending to have hidden them, presented them to Xiaoshu like a treasure: "Look, these are cucumbers that Mother bought when she came back. Look how fresh they are! I was planning to give them to you. Do you believe Mother now?"
In Su Yun'er's world, cucumbers were called "Hu Gua" in ancient times, and the same is true in this dynasty.
"Hu Gua!" Little Tree happily snatched it!
Life at home was difficult; they often lacked food and clothing. So, cucumbers, which are very common in modern society, were considered quite rare and delicious by Xiaoshu.
After quickly glancing at Su Yun'er and confirming that Su Yun'er had no intention of taking it away, he immediately put on a smiling face, picked up Hu Gua, and ran outside to find his sister and grandmother.
After shooing Xiaoshu away, Su Yun'er continued cooking.
She chopped the cabbage and boiled it directly in boiling water, sprinkling a little salt on it; then she cooked the wheat in a pot until it was soft and tender, and that was it for a meal.
It lacked color, aroma, and taste, but for the family who had been starving for a long time, it was an unparalleled delicacy, except for Su Yun'er.
She really misses the grilled fish, hot pot, fried skewers, and steak from her past life, sob sob sob.
"Where did you get all this food?" Old Mrs. Chen asked in surprise, looking at the cabbage soup, the wheat porridge, and the cucumber from earlier.
"The food we hid before wasn't stolen or robbed, so Mother, please eat with peace of mind." Su Yun'er set out the bowls and chopsticks for everyone.
Su Yun'er cooked the wheat porridge until it was very soft and tender, just right for Old Mrs. Chen's teeth. Old Mrs. Chen gave her a deep look, then said nothing more, picked up her bowl and began to eat.
In contrast to Grandma Chen's silence, the two siblings, Xiaoshu and Xiaocao, ate very happily.
"One grain, two grains, so many grains! Brother, there are so many grains of wheat in the little grass bowl!"
"There's some in my bowl too! And in Grandma's and Mom's bowls too! Mom, the wheat grains are so delicious!"
"The wheat grains are sweet!"
"We can finally have enough to eat!"
The brother and sister chattered excitedly as they sifted through the wheat grains.
But suddenly, the little grass, holding the bowl, fell silent, tilting its head as if deep in thought.
"What's wrong, Little Grass?" Su Yun'er asked.
"Mom, if we eat this meal, will we never have any more to eat in the future?" Little Grass's young face was full of worry.
Su Yun'er smiled.
She gently ruffled Xiaocao's soft hair: "Don't worry, with Mommy here, Mommy will never let Xiaocao, brother, and grandma go hungry again."
After hearing this, Xiaocao's eyes lit up, and she nodded in agreement before resuming eating her rice.
After finishing their meal, Xiaoshu and Xiaocao eagerly cleared the table. Su Yun'er was about to take over when Old Mrs. Chen stopped her.
"Let the brother and sister clean up the dishes. Come here, I have something to tell you."
Grandma Chen was in poor health and used a tree branch as a cane. She walked unsteadily. Su Yun'er wanted to help her, but Grandma Chen gently pushed her away.
The original owner of this body had hurt these people too deeply. Compared to the innocent children, Old Lady Chen needed more time to earn their forgiveness.
"Mother, what's wrong?"
