The jelly was pretty good in color, aroma, and taste. Since I made a lot, all the kids in my family ate it and loved it.
Then Chen Yourun drove the oxcart to take Yin Lan to the county town.
When the family heard that someone had come to deliver fresh food, they were quickly invited inside.
As soon as she entered, Yin Lan heard a sharp, piercing sound.
Before she could react, Chen Yourun had already pulled her behind him.
He caught the arrow with his bare hands, then threw it on the ground with a grim expression.
He glanced at Yin Lan and was relieved to see that she was alright.
A young girl dressed in a tight-fitting outfit rushed out from inside.
"Who are you? How dare you..." Before she could finish speaking, she saw the man who had caught the arrow with his bare hands, and her expression changed.
"Han'er! What nonsense are you spouting now? You almost hurt someone!"
The girl's face turned pale, and she stormed inside and ran away in anger.
A servant immediately came out and apologized repeatedly.
Since he needed their help, Chen Yourun didn't say anything, but his expression was already quite unpleasant.
They went in and served me some jelly.
Before long, the servant who had met Yin Lan came out beaming, saying that the old woman had eaten several pieces of that stuff and also a small bowl of rice.
Naturally, they treated Yin Lan very well and gave her two taels of silver. Furthermore, they heard that she was almost injured when she came in, and they were going to give her money anyway. However, Yin Lan only said that if she wanted cloth in the future, she hoped that they could give her the cloth at the price of the cloth shop.
This was a completely cost-free thing for them, so they readily agreed.
Yin Lan also thought it was a good deal, but Chen Yourun kept a straight face and only said after leaving, "This family is not good, don't come here again."
Yin Lan didn't think there was anything wrong with it.
Chen Yourun's face was grim. "If I hadn't come with you today, how would we have defended against the arrows? What would have been the consequences?" The more he spoke, the uglier his face became.
Yin Lan was actually a little scared afterward. There was really nothing she could do about such a pampered girl raised by such a family.
"I won't send anything in anymore, and we won't go in to get the cloth either. We'll keep everything outside. If we don't run into that woman, there won't be any problems."
Chen Yourun's expression remained displeased. "This isn't something we absolutely have to do. I have other ideas. I've already thought about opening a martial arts academy. The world is in turmoil these days, and there are already more and more people learning martial arts."
What he didn't say was that if the world continued to descend into chaos, the young master would surely come looking for him again one day.
Running a school only brings in small amounts of money; to truly stand out, one must seize opportunities in chaotic times.
He had learned from reading historical stories that dynasties would change, followed by chaos, then stability, then collapse, and finally stability again, in a cyclical pattern.
Land is cheap in times of chaos, and expensive in times of peace.
Whether he pursues martial arts or business, Chen Yourun is confident that he can seize opportunities in this environment.
However, that's a story for another time.
"But can you guarantee that if we do other things, we won't encounter other difficulties and dangers?" Yin Lan asked.
Chen Yourun was indeed asked a question, and he couldn't give a guarantee.
"If all you want is for me to stay home and take care of the kids, then let me tell you, that's absolutely not going to work out. If you can't accept that, we should break up as soon as possible..."
Before she could finish speaking, Chen Yourun's face was already so pale it looked like ink was about to drip from it, and the atmosphere around him was extremely low and frightening.
Yin Lan began to act coy, "I know you're not that kind of person, you're just worried about me. But everything has risks, and the risk you're worried about is very unlikely to occur. I promise I'll be careful in the future, okay?"
Chen Yourun pursed his lips.
Could he really disagree?
Yin Lan tugged at his arm, "Please?"
Chen Yourun was already almost convinced. Indeed, there are risks in doing anything. He had already thought it through, and when they came to this place again, he would personally accompany her each time.
But....
Now his arm was being held by soft hands. He had never heard her voice so soft before, and his heart began to beat a little faster, his lips becoming dry.
"No good," he heard himself say.
"Oh dear, what I just said makes a lot of sense. Can you think about it again?" Yin Lan pulled her arm and moved it a couple more times.
Chen Yourun swallowed hard, about to speak.
Seeing that he still had that dark and smelly expression, Yin Lan lost her patience and flung his arm away, saying, "If it's not good, then forget it."
She's determined to do it anyway; if things fall apart, so be it, she's not afraid.
Chen Yourun caught up with her. "Okay, I'll go with you from now on, alright?"
"I can handle it myself."
"That girl has some martial arts skills."
Just as Yin Lan was about to speak, a whooshing sound suddenly came, and a black object flew towards Chen Yourun.
He remained silent as the thing passed over his head.
Then came the girl's sweet voice.
"You do have some guts, but all I have is some skill. Hmph, don't be so arrogant!" As he spoke, the tip of his sword went straight for Chen Yourun.
Chen Yourun pushed Yin Lan back two or three steps before engaging in her attack, drawing her several meters away before unleashing his full power and fighting the girl with abandon.
Yin Lan watched with great interest. It wasn't that she wasn't worried about Chen Yourun, but she was more concerned about the young girl. If she got injured, would her cloth business still be successful?
Chen Yourun is injured...? Hmm. Anyway, he's tough and resilient, so it doesn't seem like it's a problem. Besides, if he's injured, maybe he won't look at her with that kind of tense and heart-pounding gaze.
It took less than half a cup of tea.
"Sigh!" With a heavy sigh from Yin Lan, the girl was knocked to the ground with a single palm strike and flew several steps away.
Chen Yourun seemed to hear the noise and looked over with sharp eyes.
Yin Lancai put away her own thoughts and exclaimed, "Great job! Amazing!"
Chen Yourun's lips curled slightly, then he came over, pulled Yin Lan away.
The girl got up, dusted herself off, and actually chased after Chen Yourun. Looking at him, her face flushed, she said, "Hey! You hit me and you're just going to leave like that?"
"Otherwise, why would we wait for you to carry the sedan chair?" Chen Yourun said sarcastically.
"You...where do you live? Is this your wife? You got married at such a young age? Tsk tsk tsk, your wife...oh, she's quite pretty. You're lucky to have such a rough man like you."
Yin Lan thought, "This girl is really outspoken, and she said it so well!"
She turned her head and smiled at the girl.
The girl was taken aback, then blushed. Instead of bothering Chen Yourun, she ran to Yin Lan and kept calling her "sister, sister."
Where are you going?
Where are you from?
Where did he learn his kung fu?
"Sister, your skin is so well-nourished, how come it looks so beautiful?"
