Erwa's whole face scrunched up. He lifted one foot, and around the shoe was a ring of dark green poop.
Yin Lan was about to laugh when her smile suddenly froze on her face.
Her heart pounded. "Erwa, wipe it clean and hurry back."
The older brother helped the crying younger brother to calm him down. The two children were still wondering, "No animals usually come here. We're really unlucky today. But we did catch a rabbit, so is our luck good or bad?"
Only Yin Lan pursed her lips.
If she wasn't mistaken, the clump that Erwa had just stepped on was wild boar droppings.
And the poop was very fresh.
In other words, wild boars have recently appeared here. They have come down from the deep mountains and could approach the village at any time to dig up the vegetables in the fields and eat them. They could also enter the village and homes, attack people, and eat the villagers' grain.
Fortunately, there was only one group there, so the number shouldn't be too large.
However, Yin Lan still walked home with a heavy heart.
After returning home, Yin Lan first checked the pot and poked it with a kitchen knife. The stone had become softer. She thought it would be ready in a little while.
As for the rabbit, Yin Lan wouldn't dare to kill it, and neither would Da Wa.
Yin Lan thought for a moment and then instructed, "Da Wa, take the rabbit to Grandma Zhao's house and ask them to help kill and prepare it. We'll eat it together tonight."
The Zhao family has provided a lot of help to Yin Lan and her three children, both in the past and present, so sharing a rabbit is entirely appropriate.
The eldest and second children had absolutely no objections.
The two children know who treats them well and are willing to reciprocate, while those who treat them badly will not even give them a bite to eat, like Tian Youwei.
Having explained the situation, Yin Lan left the house with mixed feelings.
The village head said he would consider it that morning, but she didn't know if it was just an excuse or if he was really considering it. However, things happened faster than she expected, and she had to prepare early.
Yin Lan walked briskly along the ridge of the field, her heart heavy, without even noticing the people in the neighboring field, until someone called out to her, "Aunt Yin."
Yin Lan turned her head as if waking from a dream, and then saw Tian Youwei holding something that looked like a sickle, scratching his head and grinning at Yin Lan.
Yin Lan glanced at him, then looked around, and finally confirmed that these were her family's two acres of barren land.
The land, which should have been covered with weeds, now has nearly half of the grass cut clean.
Da Wa and Er Wa had done it before, but they didn't do it for long and didn't have any tools. So the results you see now, that tall pile of weeds, were all done by Tian Youwei.
Why?
"What are you doing..." Yin Lan had just opened her mouth.
Tian Youwei turned and ran. He wasn't wearing shoes, and his bare feet were covered in mud. Perhaps because he was a local hoodlum, his calluses were thick. Despite being tossed around in the field, Yang hadn't managed to cut his feet.
As Yin Lan's voice faded away, Tian Youwei's small figure disappeared from sight.
Yin Lan shook her head and chuckled. This kid.
Although Yin Lan now has a very bad impression of his mother, it has nothing to do with the child.
Moreover, I remember how he helped move mud bricks, cut grass, and even ate fish bones with great relish.
Yin Lan was still somewhat moved.
Thinking this, she didn't move forward. It was getting dark, but the village head, who was walking on another ridge, recognized Yin Lan's voice. He spoke first, "Chen Laoda's wife?"
Yin Lan was still a little unfamiliar with this form of address, and it wasn't until the other person called her a second time that she realized it and immediately responded.
The village head on the other end breathed a sigh of relief. "It's a good thing you spoke up just now, otherwise I would have gone to your house and found it empty. Mrs. Chen, where are you going now? If you're not in a hurry, tell me for a bit."
Yin Lan was going to find the village head, but she didn't expect that the village head also had something to do.
Yin Lan roughly guessed that it was about wild boars, but she didn't know what the village head was thinking or whether he cared about it.
It's not appropriate to talk on the edge of the field; the nearest place is Yin Lan's home.
So the two of them headed toward the little hut.
The village head had visited Yin Lan's house once before. The small thatched hut was similar to the one Yin Lan had just entered the world from. It was bare and contained nothing of value.
When the village head came over, his eyes were immediately drawn to the dozens of mud bricks placed at the doorway.
“This is for building a stove at home. Zhao Dashan from the Zhao family helped us build it. It’s inconvenient to cook without a stove, and it doesn’t feel like a home.”
The village head was speechless.
How could Chen's wife be seeing other people? And why is the Zhao family willing to help her?
Hopefully, she'll have some gratitude and know that she'll receive a gift in return. She shouldn't let people help her for nothing, otherwise no one will help her in the future.
Moreover, when she was making the stove, she didn't ask anyone from the Chen family, but instead asked someone from the Zhao family.
With these doubts in mind, he went back into the house.
I was once again astonished by what was inside.
The thatched hut was still the same thatched hut, but the bowls and chopsticks inside were clean and tidy, and there was even grain in the corner, and surprisingly, there were even eggs.
The pot and knife were new too—tsk, those two things are quite valuable! But they also brought a touch of new life to this dilapidated hut.
There was something cooking in the pot, probably like the other dishes in the village, it didn't smell very appetizing, just brown rice porridge.
Not bad, it's much better than before.
"Uncle Village Head!" Erwa was playing with Sanwa inside when he saw him and immediately came out to greet him obediently.
