Chapter 54 Attack

Suddenly, a series of increasingly loud exclamations came from outside. Yin Lan opened her eyes abruptly, and the exclamations reached her ears again.

It took her two seconds to realize the time and where she was.

Then he immediately rolled over, hung the whistle and high-powered flashlight he had hidden on the ground on his body, and stuffed them into his clothes.

He then took out the pistol, holstered it in his waistband, and only after making sure it was secure did he calm his pounding heart and wake both children.

The older child rubbed his eyes, about to ask, "What's wrong?"

A series of gongs and drums, along with shrill cries of "Wild boars are coming! Wild boars are attacking people! Run!" came from the air.

Yin Lan pressed down on the eldest son, who was about to get up, and looked at him seriously. "You are the eldest brother. Now you stay in bed and take care of the second and third sons. Cover them with the blankets and don't make a sound. I'll go outside to check on them, but don't come out. Do you understand?"

The eldest son had never seen his mother so resolute and imposing, and he nodded blankly.

Watching Yin Lan's retreating figure, his eyes reddened slightly, and the thought of the wild boar made him tremble with fear.

For the first time, this was the very first time, that their mother was protecting them.

Last year, when the wild boars came, it was also at night. My mother was sleeping in bed by herself, and it was my eldest son who woke her up when he heard the noise. My mother told him to go outside and see what was happening, to see if any wild boars were coming, and to tell him to run outside if the wild boars came.

At the time, the eldest child thought that his mother was telling him a way to save his life. Later, he realized that his mother was just thinking that if the wild boar really came, she would let him lure it away. But what about his safety? Didn't his mother care at all?

The older child's eyes welled up with tears.

The mother used to not care about them, but the mother now is different.

Yin Lan turned her head and added, "Don't be afraid, Mother is outside. If the wild boar comes, Mother will leave temporarily to find someone to help. You take your younger brother and hide under the bed, understand?"

The eldest child's tears fell.

A hoarse voice said, "Mother..."

He nodded with all his might.

Yin Lan then placed some things between the inner and outer rooms to provide some temporary shelter.

Then I went out.

It was already bright outside, probably because torches had been lit, and the sounds of commotion and crying could be heard everywhere.

Yin Lan nervously opened the crack in the door of the thatched hut to look out. The village in the distance was in a mess, and she could not see any women or children. However, in the quiet night, she could hear their cries.

Several men gathered together, holding torches and hoes as weapons, while on the ridges of the fields, several wild boars could be seen running around.

The wild boar, grayish-black in color, with a long snout and clearly visible tusks, was wreaking havoc in the field.

Last time, when they saw wild boars in the mountains, they were quite far away. This time, they were closer, and Yin Lan realized just how big these wild boars were. Even when two or three men approached one of them, it didn't seem like they had much of a chance of winning.

Fortunately, wild boars are afraid of fire.

Yin Lan immediately started a fire in the house.

Outside, several men were fighting a wild boar, driving it away and attacking it. After several rounds, whether the wild boar was full or finally scared, some of them started running up the mountain.

Just as Yin Lan breathed a sigh of relief, a wild boar, seemingly lost, charged straight towards her small hut. The men there were busy dealing with other wild boars and no one noticed.

Yin Lan's heart was pounding. She immediately took out the high-powered electric gun and the weapon, and loaded it according to the operating instructions she had read earlier.

Survival whistle... Forget it, not to mention that the others are too busy to spare any attention right now, even if someone came, it would be too late.

Yin Lan watched anxiously as the wild boar charged closer and closer. When it was only about two meters away, Yin Lan raised her pistol.

Aim and press the trigger.

With a slight twitch of the finger, at the very moment the button was pressed...

The wild boar suddenly stopped, turned around abruptly, and passed right in front of the hut before heading straight into the mountains along the path behind it.

It was a close call, but no real danger.

Yin Lan's hand holding the gun was still trembling.

Several seconds later, she breathed a sigh of relief, slowly lowered the gun, and then realized that she was covered in a layer of cold sweat.

After a long while, Yin Lan listened to the commotion outside and realized that the wild boars seemed to have left.

She had just entered the room when she lifted the blankets covering the three children who were obediently covered and motionless. She met the eldest child's frightened and worried gaze. "It's alright. Mom will go out and check on things. You take your brother and go to sleep quietly."

The eldest child's eyes were red. Now, whatever his mother said, he would do; he would listen to her.

Yin Lan then went out the door.

As I passed by the field ridges, I saw that most of the cabbages in the fields had been completely ruined.

Only Yin Lan's two acres of land, because they were all overgrown with weeds, suffered no loss at all, and there was nothing to lose.

The closer you get to the village, the more cries you hear: "My land... my vegetables..."

There were some mottled bloodstains on the ground, it was unclear whether they were from wild boars or humans.

The whole village was alarmed, and Yin Lan heard someone say, "Sun the Rascal is injured."

"The village head's son was also injured."

"I heard someone died. Who was it?"

Yin Lan's heart grew heavier; she hadn't expected the losses to be so great.

Perhaps she should have been more assertive last night, but if she had been, would the villagers have listened to her? They would probably have thought she had ulterior motives.

If even the village head couldn't persuade her, how could she, a woman despised by the village, possibly play any role?

Moreover, no one expected the wild boars to arrive so quickly.

The village was in chaos at that moment.

After a while, the village head appeared in the village square, his eyes were a little red, after all, he had heard that the village head's son had also been injured.

Upon seeing the village head, the villagers gradually gathered around him.

The men remained silent, their brows furrowed and their faces stiff.

Some of the women also had solemn expressions, some had red eyes, and some were sobbing, probably because their husbands had been injured in the chaos.
