Qin Shen was taken aback upon hearing this, then grinned broadly, cupped his hands in congratulations, and said, "Congratulations, Your Highness!"
That's wonderful, the prince has an heir.
As military officers, they almost always risked their lives, living a life of constant danger, never knowing when they would be gone.
Many military families would have their sons marry and have children at a young age. Some families even had unspoken rules that if a son did not have an heir, he was not allowed to take over his father's position in the military or to enter the military for training.
But the Qin family is an exception; they don't have such a rule.
The reason is simply that the Qin family has always practiced monogamy, with no concubines, mistresses, or other women in the household.
When he joined the army, his family had already started arranging marriages for him. However, his elders respected the younger generation, and they would not arrange a marriage for him casually if he did not agree.
That's why he's still all alone.
What he didn't expect was that the once vast Qin family was now reduced to just him.
Overjoyed and excited, Lu Yanzheng saw Qin Shen's downcast and dejected look and immediately composed himself, patting him on the shoulder and saying, "Those who are alive should look forward and put their loved ones at ease."
Revenge is definitely necessary, but one cannot let their life become a mess.
"Yes, I understand." When Qin Shen looked up again, his eyes were filled with a smile. "Is there some good news in Your Highness's family? How about we invite Eagle and the others to celebrate?"
Lu Yanzheng waved his hand, "No need," then quickly added, "However, we can't use the previous plan anymore. Let's call Eagle and the others to discuss this again tomorrow!"
Qinqin is pregnant, and he needs to get back as soon as possible so that she can't bear the pain of childbirth alone.
Qin Shen understood how he felt and nodded, saying, "Then I'll go tell them now that Your Highness should get some rest."
Lu Yanzheng curled his lips into a smile, "I'm afraid I can't rest yet."
After saying this, he ordered a messenger to bring in the people sent by the imperial court to negotiate peace.
As Qin Shen was leaving, the Minister of the Court of State Ceremonies of the Imperial Court happened to enter.
The Minister of the Court of State Ceremonies, surnamed Lu, had once discussed marriage with the Qin family, and the person in question was none other than Qin Shen. This Minister Lu had met Qin Shen a few times and had some impression of him. When the two passed each other, he deliberately stopped in his tracks.
"General Qin," Lord Lu greeted him with a cupped-hand salute.
Qin Shen glanced at him briefly, nodded casually, and left.
Lord Lu frowned, snorted inwardly, and then strode into Lu Yanzheng's cabin.
What's with the attitude? The Qin family has such a huge fortune, and Qin Shen, that good-for-nothing, actually handed it all over to Lu Yanzheng. He's a complete spendthrift!
He was just trying to build a good relationship with the Northwest Army so that if they had to work together in the future, or if the imperial court was overthrown, he could at least save his life. But Qin Shen didn't know what was good for him, so he couldn't be bothered to argue with him.
"This humble official, Lu Zhengfeng, Minister of the Court of State Ceremonial, greets the King of the Northwest." Lord Lu bowed deeply to Lu Yanzheng with proper decorum.
Lu Yanzheng responded indifferently, without ordering tea or anything, and after telling everyone to get up, he went straight to the point: "Lord Lu, are you here to negotiate peace?"
Lu Zhengfeng had prepared a lot to say, but Lu Yanzheng's words shut him up. He was immediately thrown off his train of thought and stammered, "Yes, Your Highness, I have come on His Majesty's orders to discuss a truce between the two sides."
Since it was the imperial court, he couldn't bring himself to say the words "peace talks," so he used "truce" instead.
"Oh? Then the court must be sincere. Lord Lu, why don't you speak first?" Lu Yanzheng raised an eyebrow, slowly took a sip of water, and then quietly looked at Lu Zhengfeng.
Lu Zhengfeng was speechless again, and even felt that the seemingly gentle and harmless Northwest King was like a tiger lurking in the dark night, ready to pounce and hurt people at any moment.
"Your Highness, before we came here, His Majesty personally told me that he would not pursue your unauthorized claim to be a king, nor would he pursue the various taxes levied on the four northwestern prefectures during this period. As long as Your Highness ceases hostilities, you will be formally enfeoffed as the Prince of Ding." Lu Zhengfeng finally revealed Emperor Jingqing's intentions.
Lu Yanzheng almost laughed out of anger at these words, "Is this the court's 'sincerity'?"
It makes it seem like his fuss was just his child rebelling, which could be easily appeased by a few words from his parents, and then he would go back to being an obedient child.
"Your Highness, if you do not handle this matter properly, you will surely be remembered in history, but only with infamy!" Lu Zhengfeng said, looking very distressed. "Your Highness would not want your ancestors to be cursed thousands of years from now, would you?"
Lu Yanzheng chuckled softly, but didn't say a word.
Lu Zhengfeng was somewhat anxious. "In my humble opinion, even for the sake of future generations and posthumous reputation, Your Highness should not rebel! Only the Great Yue Dynasty is the legitimate royal family. With the Emperor alive, Great Yue exists!"
“If this is the sincerity of the court in negotiating peace,” Lu Yanzheng suddenly stood up, looking at Lu Zhengfeng with a cold gaze, “I’m afraid I don’t have that kind of luck. Show him out.”
After saying that, he ignored what Lu Zhengfeng said next and strode away back to his cabin.
Lu Zhengfeng was still trying to persuade Lu Yanzheng to stop the war, saying, "For the sake of the people's well-being, Your Highness, you can't continue to be willful!"
Lu Yanzheng thought this was a huge joke. If Emperor Jingqing continued to be emperor, the people would not have a good life, right?
He was initially hesitant about whether to bring the plan forward, but after meeting Lu Zhengfeng, his hesitation vanished.
Whether it was to help the people live a better life as soon as possible, or to quickly take over the capital so he could go back to be with his wife, he couldn't wait a moment longer.
