Chapter 44 Going to the Prefectural City

Hearing this, Madam Ma, holding Lu Tianbao's hand, immediately said sarcastically, "Who are you trying to keep away from by separating us? Don't you realize how old you are? If something happens, we'll have to take a detour."

"Whoever you're wary of knows." Village Chief Li rolled his eyes at her. He looked down on Lu Yancai's family in every way, not a single one of them was good. "Old Lu, just say the word, and I'll do this for you, no money required!"

After saying that, he turned to Jiang Qinyu and said, "Niece, if you want to have a separate small courtyard, just tell me. My brothers are all good at masonry work, and they can finish it for you in a few days."

Jiang Qinyu was assigned the original house and two side rooms. If she simply changed the direction of the door, she could easily turn it into a separate courtyard.

Upon hearing Village Chief Li's words, she immediately nodded in agreement, "Then thank you very much, Uncle Village Chief."

"Call a few of my nephews to come and get it done for me today. I really don't want to see that rebellious brat again!" Old Lu still hadn't recovered.

He taught both sons the same way, so how come the eldest son is upright and capable, while the second son turned out like this?

I can't figure it out, I really can't figure it out.

Chen wiped away her tears, looked at Lu Yancai, then at Jiang Qinyu and her two nieces, and sighed deeply, accepting the reality.

It's good to separate the family; everyone can live their own lives from now on, and the house won't be in chaos.

Village Chief Li immediately nodded, "I'll go back and have them prepare, but my niece's side might be a couple of days later."

"It's alright, Uncle Village Chief, I'm not in a hurry," Jiang Qinyu said with a faint smile.

She wants to turn it into a separate courtyard, add a kitchen, and rebuild the bathroom; it probably won't be finished in a few days.

Of the three rooms, besides her bedroom, one of the side rooms also needed to be divided into two, since Shufan and Pan'er would have to sleep separately after the New Year.

Jiang Qinyu went through all of this in her mind, then squeezed the purse containing all her belongings, and felt like crying.

She needs to earn money quickly! The system needs another thousand bolts of cloth, and renovating the yard will cost her even more. If she doesn't earn money soon, she won't be able to do anything.

After making up her mind, Jiang Qinyu immediately went to the land that had been allocated to her.

Putting everything else aside, we need to bury the water pipes in the ground first.

Shufan and Pan'er went out with her, both carrying small baskets on their backs. They grabbed anything useful they saw along the way.

Seeing them like this, Jiang Qinyu sighed inwardly, "It's true that children from poor families mature early!"

"Auntie, what's that?"

Seeing Jiang Qinyu bury a small section of water pipe in her own land, Shu Fan asked curiously.

Jiang Qinyu looked around and, seeing that no one was there, replied, "This is a water pipe. If we want to grow crops on our land, we need to irrigate it thoroughly first."

"Don't we need to fetch water?" Shufan asked, bewildered.

Jiang Qinyu shook her head. "This was given by the gods. Look," she said, turning on the tap with her mind, and the water pipe buried in the pit started to flow. "Now we have water."

Shufan and Pan'er were dumbfounded. Their aunt was amazing!

Jiang Qinyu buried water pipes on all the plots of land allocated to her family. When she passed by Old Man Lu's house and other people's land, she buried them as well, as long as she didn't see anyone.

By the time she returned home in the evening, she had buried water pipes in most of the fields in the village.

Of course, she carefully avoided the land belonging to Lu Yancai's family, the Wang family, the Ma family, and the Deng family, pretending not to see them.

I'm sorry, but she's just that petty. If anyone makes her unhappy, she won't make them happy either.

Back home, they still had to share a kitchen with Chen.

However, Mrs. Chen still cooked dinner for them tonight, and the family ate together in the main room as usual.

"Now that you've separated the family, you should each live your own lives. Second son's wife, stop scheming against others. It's time for you two to work hard and make a living on your own," Old Man Lu said earnestly.

Lu Yancai said dejectedly, "I know, Dad, but tell me, why don't you and Mom want to live with us? I'm your only son!"

With a "smack," Old Man Lu slammed his chopsticks on the table. "What, you think your mother and I haven't done enough for you all these years?"

"Old woman, you're not allowed to cook him another meal!" After saying that, Old Lu finished his bowl of rice in a few gulps, turned around and went back into the house.

Chen's eyes were red, and she sniffed. She said to Lu Yancai, "Second son, your father is right. It's time for you to stand up for yourself."

After saying that, she took away her and Old Man Lu's bowls.

Seeing this, Jiang Qinyu immediately stood up and told Shufan and Pan'er to take their bowls back to the room to eat.

"Jiang, are you satisfied now?" Madam Ma suddenly stood up, glaring at Jiang Qinyu's back.

Jiang Qinyu stopped in her tracks, glanced back at her, and then curled her lips into a smile. "I'm quite satisfied. I would be even more satisfied if you could disappear from my sight."

After saying that, she left without looking back.

She just wanted to survive in this unfamiliar world and strive to realize her dream of lying down and living a peaceful life. She didn't want to have anything to do with any Tom, Dick, or Harry.

In the following days, as expected, Village Chief Li brought several of his sons to help Old Man Lu and Jiang Qinyu with the yard.

Before this, the Wang family and the Ma and Deng families had fled famine the day after Jiang Qinyu and the others returned.

Their departure caused a few sighs from the village's less resolute members, but these were quickly dispelled by the grand meat-sharing ceremony.

Jiang Qinyu and her group spent five days in the mountains and brought back forty-nine sheep, two wild boars, one tiger, three wolves, and two hyenas. Of these, only the sheep and the tiger were shared among the villagers.
