Chapter 116 Harvest

The next day, after breakfast, the two of them carried baskets on their backs and went to dig potatoes.

This batch of potatoes is much larger than the previous ones; six acres of potatoes are enough to last a long time.

Of the potatoes we harvested earlier, some were used as potato seeds, some were dried, some were used for cooking, and most of them ended up in the bellies of our six dogs.

Xu Han often braises potatoes in meat broth for the dogs. There aren't many left, but this batch of potatoes is ready to be harvested, so they can continue feeding them.

The soil is very soft, so digging potatoes doesn't take much effort. Just hold the potato vine and pull it out.

You can then pull out a lot of potatoes. With a little digging, you can get the rest out without really needing to dig the ground.

Lu Chuan pulled potato vines in front, while Xu Han followed behind, digging up potatoes. They threw the potatoes they dug up into a pile, and then picked them up and put them in their baskets later.

The two spent the entire morning harvesting potatoes in the field, and only went home for lunch at lunchtime.

"How about I go pick some of the small chilies outside this afternoon? The weather's bad today, it's probably going to get colder and there'll be frost, which will ruin all the chilies outside," Xu Han said.

"Okay, then you go harvest the chili peppers, and I'll go harvest the potatoes."

In the afternoon, Lu Chuan went to harvest potatoes by himself, while Xu Han picked all the chili peppers outside with a basket.

Set aside the reddened peppers and dry them in the sun later.

The green, unripe peppers are set aside separately; they can be used to pickle small peppers, or some can be kept fresh to eat.

After picking the chili peppers, we also cut off the stems. They can be dried and used as firewood, but they're not easy to burn because they're a bit pungent.

Xu Han was busy until sunset and darkness fell before she finally finished harvesting all the chili peppers.

We harvested potatoes from about three acres today, and there's still a little over half left. I estimate we can finish harvesting them all tomorrow.

Xu Han put the potatoes into her spatial storage and transported them home to the warehouse.

Xu Han has taken out everything that can be placed outside and temporarily put it outside these past two days. The space is so full of cattle and sheep that there is no spare space.

Take some things out to free up some space for transporting goods.

It took two trips to finally get all the potatoes home for the day. After finishing, Xu Han and Lu Chuan finally sat down to have a drink of water and rest for a bit.

"The potatoes will be harvested by tomorrow, and the pumpkins and winter melons can be harvested too. You can harvest the pumpkins and winter melons tomorrow, and I'll continue digging potatoes!" Lu Chuan said while drinking water.

“Okay, then I’ll harvest the pumpkins and winter melons tomorrow. It’ll be very convenient to store them directly in my space after harvesting,” Xu Han said.

After the two of them discussed and agreed on the arrangements for tomorrow, Xu Han took out the food from her spatial storage and began to eat dinner.

They discussed how to handle the crops while eating dinner.

The next day, after Lu Chuan got up and ate breakfast, he went to harvest potatoes. Xu Han tidied up the house first, then took her scissors and went out to harvest pumpkins and winter melons.

Some of the pumpkin and winter melon vines have already turned yellow and begun to wither, and the fruits have ripened, but there are still some tender ones that haven't grown yet.

Xu Han also plans to harvest all of these berries, big and small, whether ripe or not, to prevent them from being damaged by frost.

First, I selected some ripe, large, golden-yellow pumpkins, removed them, and put them directly into the space.

After picking all the ripe pumpkins, Xu Han took out her basket and started looking for smaller pumpkins, not even letting go of the tender pumpkins the size of a fist. She picked them all and kept them to stir-fry and eat, which would be quite delicious.

After picking them, Xu Han went to pick winter melons next to her, separating the fully ripe ones from the smaller ones.

When the space is full, send it home and put it in the cellar; if there's no more room, put it in the storeroom.

When it was time for lunch, the two went home to eat, and then continued working.

After picking the winter melons, we went to the stream to pick the pumpkins we had casually planted earlier. We couldn't forget to harvest those too; they had yielded quite a few! We couldn't let them go to waste.

After picking all the pumpkins and winter melons, Xu Han took a sickle, cut off the melon vines, piled them up, and burned them directly.

After the fire was extinguished, Xu Han covered the ashes with soil to make sure it wouldn't catch fire again before going to find Lu Chuan.

Lu Chuan still had some potatoes left to dig, so Xu Han helped him dig them up. The two of them working together made it much faster, and they finished digging up all the potatoes after sunset.

But they've only dug them out; they haven't brought them home yet! So the two of them hurriedly started picking up potatoes again, stuffing them into baskets or sacks.

In a great hurry, they finally managed to get all the potatoes home before it got completely dark.

This was only because Lu Chuan sat down to pick potatoes and rest when he got tired of digging. He had already picked some. Otherwise, the two of them wouldn't have been able to finish picking potatoes from these three acres of land before dark!

After emptying the last basket of potatoes into the barn, I was finally done with all my work for the day.

After washing my hands and face, I sat in the main room, drank a cup of tea, and ate some snacks before getting up to go to the kitchen to start making dinner.

I've put in a lot of effort harvesting crops these past two days, so of course I need to eat some meat to replenish my energy.

Eating big chunks of meat is the only way to truly enjoy it! Xu Han took out a large piece of beef brisket, intending to make a braised beef brisket dish.

Cut the beef brisket into large square pieces, then blanch it in water with scallions, ginger, and cooking wine.

Heat oil in a pot again, caramelize the sugar, then add the beef and water and cook for a while. Add potatoes and appropriate seasonings, then transfer everything to an earthenware pot and simmer slowly.

Let's stir-fry some greens. After it's done, put it in the space to keep it warm. We can just serve it out when it's time to eat.

Eating meat can be greasy, so Xu Han took out the radishes she had harvested a couple of days ago and made some pickled radish shreds to eat.

Xu Han wasn't very good at knife skills, so she chose to cheat by using a scraper to cut the radish into thin strips.

The radish shreds scraped out by the scraper were fine and even, much better than those cut by Xu Han.

Season the shredded radish with salt, light soy sauce, vinegar, MSG, and sesame oil. Let it marinate for a while until it absorbs the flavors, then it's ready to eat.

The hot water from the large pot outside was ready, so the two decided to take a shower first. After the shower, the beef would be tender, and then they could have dinner.

After taking a shower, Xu Han served the food. The fragrant braised beef, paired with rice, looked incredibly tempting.
