Chapter 129 Building a Woodshed 2

The two people and their six dogs enjoyed a delicious bowl of mixed grain beef and vegetable noodles, and after eating their fill, they let out a satisfied burp.

"Ah, that feels so good! After a long day, a bowl of hot noodles is the perfect meal. I could die happy!" Lu Chuan said.

Xu Han tapped Lu Chuan's arm. "What nonsense are you talking about! Go wash the dishes."

Lu Chuan went to wash the pots and dishes with a grin.

Dried sweet potato leaves are indeed delicious. Since we didn't pick many before, Xu Han dried the cut sweet potato vines and covered them with an oilcloth. We'll pick more when we have time another day.

In the evening, Xu Han and Lu Chuan were weaving a thatched roof inside the house. Xu Han knew how to do this; the original owner of this body had woven quite a few of these before.

The two of them worked until midnight to finish weaving all the straw mats needed to cover the roof.

The next day, after getting up and having breakfast, the two continued building the house. The roof support frame had been completely fixed yesterday, with each piece tightly attached to the next, making it very sturdy.

However, if they simply added thatch, it would still easily leak later on, so the two of them went to dig up yellow mud on the hillside behind the house.

Cut the thatch into small pieces, add it to the yellow mud, mix well, and then stomp on it with your feet to make it stickier. Spread the mixed yellow mud on the roof, and then cover it with thatch.

The yellow mud is wet, just enough to stick the thatch. When laying the thatch on the roof, it's essential to stagger the layers so they overlap, otherwise it will easily leak later.

The roof was covered with a thick layer of thatch, and now the top was considered complete. The next step was to block the gap between the courtyard wall and the woodshed with bamboo.

Before she had finished everything, it was lunchtime again, and Xu Han, as usual, took out the food from her spatial storage and ate it directly.

After they finished eating, they continued working. Now, only the front wall was left unfinished. They spent the rest of their time blocking it up and also made a bamboo door for easy access.

Because this place is used to store firewood and charcoal, the door is made very large so that people won't be blocked from getting out when they come to fetch firewood.

After finishing everything, it was already late afternoon. I originally thought I could finish it in one afternoon, but it took me a whole day and a half. I was careless and underestimated the difficulty.

The original doghouse was demolished, so now the dogs have nowhere to live.

So Xu Han and Lu Chuan used the remaining bamboo to build a larger doghouse for the dogs next to it.

The previous doghouse was already a bit too small for six dogs, and now the puppies are getting bigger and bigger, so it's time to get them a bigger one.

The dogs' house has been moved to a place next to the woodshed.

I built a larger doghouse along the same length. The doghouse was made of bricks and tiles that I had bought before. Because I had planned to rebuild the doghouse in advance, these things had been bought and piled up to the side long ago.

The doghouse was built directly on the stone slabs without digging a foundation. After all, it wasn't very tall or large, and it should be fine for the dog to live in for several decades.

First, two walls were built with bricks, leaving space for the door. The other two walls didn't need to be built separately. They were built to a height of about 1.2 meters. Then, the roof beams were erected.

The roof beams are slanted, with one side higher than the other, to allow water to drip when it rains. After the roof is built, the tiles can be installed directly.

The doghouse was built with bricks, and there weren't many, but enough for six adult dogs, so the whole process was quick and smooth.

After setting it up, Xu Han brought in the dogs' old cotton beds and other things, and the dogs happily ran around the house.

Before it got dark, Lu Chuan repaired the bluestone slabs that had been removed from the woodshed and then laid them back on to prevent them from turning into mud when it rained later.

Xu Han went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. She simply stir-fried a few home-style dishes, and served them with porridge, steamed buns, and pickled vegetables.

After dinner, the two continued weaving straw mats. The weather was getting cold, and the place where Yumi lived was a bit drafty!

Taking advantage of the time in the evening, I quickly wove the straw mat and hung it directly on the wall, which would block out some of the wind.

The next day, after finishing breakfast, Lu Chuan went to cut down the trees he had previously cut down. He needed to trim the miscellaneous branches, using the branches as firewood and the thick trunks for charcoal.

Xu Han went to put straw mats around the cornfield. After finishing the straw mats in the backyard, she used the remaining straw mats to cover the pens for the chickens, ducks, and geese.

After finishing, I went back to the front yard and brought out the wine I had made earlier.

The wine has almost finished fermenting, and now a layer of grape skins has floated on top. Today, Xu Han needs to scoop these grape skins out and discard them, and also filter the wine.

First, remove the grape skins and place them on a strainer. Then, place the strainer directly on a new jar, and the filtered wine can flow directly into the jar.

When filtering grape skins, you need to squeeze out the water from the grape skins. Xu Han put on gloves and squeezed them out by hand, which was faster.

After removing all the grape skins, the wine in the jar was filtered again. Grape seeds, which had settled in the jar, also needed to be filtered out.

After filtering it all out, the wine was reduced by one-fifth, a significant decrease in volume.

After filtering, move the wine back into the cellar and let it ferment for a while longer; it will taste even better.

After finishing all that, it was lunchtime. Xu Han locked the courtyard gate and went to the woods to find Lu Chuan to have lunch together.

When Xu Han arrived, Lu Chuan had already processed a lot of branches. This afternoon, Xu Han's task was to transport all these branches home, dry them, and keep them as firewood.

Xu Han called Lu Chuan over, sat him down on the ground to rest for a while, gave him a glass of water and poured some more water for him to wash his hands, before taking out today's lunch from her spatial storage.

Today's lunch consisted of braised chicken with mushrooms, stir-fried shredded potatoes with vinegar, beef soup, and rice.

This morning I did a lot of physical labor, so of course I need to eat well, otherwise I won't have the energy, and not eating well will harm my health.

After lunch, Xu Han put the tree branches into her space and started transporting them home. The tree branches that were brought back were then left to dry in the yard.

After the branches are dried, they are tidied up and stacked in the woodshed to prevent a lack of firewood when it rains.

The firewood temporarily stored in the woodshed is almost used up, and we won't put any more in there after that.

In this way, Xu Han spent the entire afternoon making many trips back and forth before she was finally able to transport all the tree branches home.

The open space in front of the gate is now piled with branches and bamboo sticks, enough to burn for a while.
