Chapter 230 The Wolf Pack's Aftermath

Xu Han was indeed very tired, so she stopped insisting on going with them to retrieve the wolf carcasses and said, "Okay, then be careful and come back soon."

Then, after thinking for a moment, he took out the steamed buns he had made earlier from his spatial storage, gave two to each person, and then filled a bamboo tube with some porridge and handed it to Lu Chuan and the Taoist priest.

“You must be hungry after working all night. Why don’t you eat something first? There’s no rush,” Xu Han said.

The Taoist priest and Lu Chuan took the food handed to them by Xu Han, found a place to sit down, and began to eat to replenish their energy.

The dogs couldn't go hungry either, so Xu Han took out two wooden basins from her space, added some salty soup and some broken black bread, stirred it, and placed it in front of the dogs so they could eat too.

After a long night, everyone was exhausted, but the food instantly revived us.

After eating and drinking their fill, the four of them split up and went about their business.

Xu Han and Grandpa Zhao took Black Spot and Rice Ball home, while Lu Chuan and the Taoist priest led the other dogs to set off to bring the remaining wolves home.

After Xu Han got home, she ate a little something and went back to her room to sleep. Grandpa Zhao also took a nap after closing the courtyard gate.

When Xu Han woke up, it was already past four in the afternoon. Lu Chuan and the Taoist priest had already returned and were processing wolf meat in the backyard!

First, skin the wolf and keep the skin for later tanning. Since wolf meat isn't tasty, cook it all and feed it to the dogs. At this point, it's good enough that they have something to eat; we can't waste a single bit.

"Aren't you going to rest for a while?" Xu Han asked the three people who were processing wolf meat as she walked towards the backyard.

"I took a nap; they just got back not long ago," Grandpa Zhao said.

"Let's process a few wolf meats first, so we can cook them for the dogs later," Lu Chuan said without looking up.

"Let's do it later! You guys go catch up on your sleep first, there's no rush," Xu Han said with concern.

"It's okay, I'll be done soon. I just promised to give it to the dogs. Once I'm done with what I have, I can cook it for them in a bit."

"There are still some wolves there. You should put them in your spatial storage first! It's too hot, they'll start to stink soon!" Lu Chuan said to Xu Han.

Upon hearing this, Xu Han put the other wolves into her spatial storage and then went to the front yard to wash the pot she would use to cook the wolf meat.

It's been a long time since I cooked in the pot, and over time, the inside of the iron pot has become rusty.

After Xu Han cleaned the pot, Lu Chuan had also finished processing the wolf meat.

"Can we cook now?" Xu Han asked.

“Cook it! When we went to catch the wolf, we also checked the surrounding area. There were no strangers or signs of large wild animals,” the Taoist priest said.

"Alright, I'll cook. You two eat something and take a nap!" Xu Han said, then took out two servings of cold noodles from her spatial storage and handed them to the two of them. Then she went to the courtyard to light a fire and cook the wolf meat.

Cooking this is simple. Just throw the meat into the pot and cook it until done. After lighting the fire and adding firewood, you don't need to worry about it. Once it's cooked, just take it out.

Xu Han was cleaning the main room while keeping an eye on the pots in the yard.

In no time, the wolf meat was cooked. Lu Chuan had chopped it all up before cooking, so Xu Han could just take it out.

Xu Han scooped out the amount of food the dogs had eaten that day, and put the rest into her spatial storage, planning to feed them some more tomorrow.

The Taoist priest and Lu Chuan slept until after 8 p.m., and when they woke up, it was completely dark.

The first thing Lu Chuan said to Xu Han was, "Did you feed the cooked wolf meat to the dogs?"

"Hey, hey, what, are you afraid I'll detain you?" Xu Han rolled her eyes at Lu Chuan.

Lu Chuan scratched the back of his head and said, "That's not what I meant."

"Alright, go wash your face! Dinner's almost ready."

After saying that, Xu Han ignored Lu Chuan and began to take out the food she was going to eat that day from her spatial storage.

Everyone's tired today, so we definitely need to have a good meal.

Xu Han took out a lot of delicious food from her spatial storage and filled the entire table.

"What day is it today? You're eating such a sumptuous meal." The Taoist priest, who had just walked in, asked with a smile when he saw the food on the table.

"It's a feast! This is a special treat for the two of you. Of course, the dogs are included too; they all put in a lot of effort today," Xu Han replied with a smile.

Upon hearing this, the Taoist priest quickly sat down. "You know what, if it weren't for those few, some wolves would definitely have escaped today."

"Thanks to their timely discovery, they gave us time; otherwise, we would both have been seriously injured."

“Yes! If it weren’t for them, we would be in trouble. We must reward the dogs,” Lu Chuan added.

"We just fed them wolf meat this afternoon, and for dinner they had mixed grain beef noodles. The food was pretty good, wasn't it?" Grandpa Zhao chimed in.

Seeing Grandpa Zhao say this, Lu Chuan's smile widened even more.

"Everyone has worked hard today. Xiao Chuan is injured, and Xiao Han can't drink alcohol. Otherwise, we would have had a drink together today," Grandpa Zhao said excitedly.

“I’m not injured, I can drink,” the Taoist priest quickly interjected.

"Give me a break! You weren't the one who got scratched by the wolf's claws. Just behave yourself! Don't drink today," Grandpa Zhao retorted directly.

"I made fruit tea for everyone. Let's drink this; it's delicious too." Xu Han quickly brought out the fruit tea she had prepared in advance that afternoon and poured a cup for each person.

“This is delicious. I just had some. You should try some too,” Grandpa Zhao said.

"It tastes pretty good, sweet and sour, not bad at all."

"We're about to eat, the food will get cold soon," Lu Chuan said.

After the group had dinner, Grandpa Zhao changed Lu Chuan's dressing and brought him the medicine he had prepared that afternoon.

The four of them sat in the courtyard for a while, enjoying the evening breeze, until late at night, before returning to their rooms to rest.

Lu Chuan had just woken up and wasn't sleepy yet, so he pulled Xu Han aside to talk.

"I'm so grateful that the Taoist priest and Grandpa Zhao are staying with us. I really can't imagine what we would have done in this situation if it weren't for them. I'm so afraid I wouldn't be able to protect you." Lu Chuan's voice trembled with tears as he spoke.

Seeing this, Xu Han quickly hugged Lu Chuan tightly and patted him gently to comfort him, saying, "Don't blame yourself. I believe you will protect me."

"I underestimated them. I thought I was very skilled, and with the dogs helping me, I would definitely be fine in the mountains. But that wasn't the case. The dangers in the mountains are unpredictable and beyond my control."
