Chapter 247 The Third Year of the Drought

Time always flies when there's no entertainment. This disastrous year is almost over, but so far the sky still shows no sign of rain.

And so, the group waited and waited, and finally, the twelfth lunar month arrived.

Wasn't the drought supposed to last only three years? I wonder if it will rain this December.

Everyone had had enough of the lack of water and was eagerly waiting for rain so they could take a nice hot bath and soak in it.

Of course, they weren't just staying home waiting for the rain to come; there were still things they needed to do.

The weather is getting colder, so we still need to prepare charcoal for this year's fire.

This year, Xu Han was able to bring her child to help, and the charcoal burning process was quite fast.

Everyone is hoping for a heavy snowfall or rain before the New Year, so that they can have a proper celebration with plenty of rainwater and enjoy a lively atmosphere.

But fate was unkind; the heavy rain or snow did not fall even on New Year's Eve.

But we still have to celebrate the New Year. This year, because of the arrival of Mu'er, who is one year and one month old, the New Year celebration was much more lively than before, even though we lacked the necessary resources.

The house was filled with the sounds of people teasing Mu'er, and everyone was happily welcoming the New Year.

As the youngest member, Mu'er did not disappoint, and cooperated exceptionally well with her work.

Because of the lack of water, no New Year's Eve dinner was prepared this year, and everyone ate the food from the space again.

However, there were many more dishes than usual for the meal. In celebration this year, Xu Han even brought out the fruit wine she had brewed earlier, and everyone raised their glasses to welcome the New Year.

Little Mu'er also sat in the high chair that Lu Chuan had specially made for him, holding his own little plate and spoon, and raising his little cup with a tiny bit of liquid to toast with everyone.

The tiny little person, holding a tiny cup, looks so adorable and cute that it melts everyone's heart.

"Come on, Mu'er, cheers!" The Taoist priest said playfully to Mu'er, holding up a wine cup.

Mu'er was very obliging and clumsily imitated the Taoist priest, tilting her head back to drink the juice.

As expected, he didn't drink much; most of it spilled out.

"Hahaha, Mu'er is so clever. What a little genius!" Grandpa Zhao praised without reservation.

"That kid's clever! Yesterday he took a piece of fine Hetian jade, and when I asked him for it, he absolutely refused to give it to me, keeping stuffing it into his own pocket," the Taoist priest said.

“Just like his mother, both are little money-grubbers,” Grandpa Zhao chimed in.

"Isn't being a miser good? We know how to manage a household and that we can't just give away valuable things to others, right, Xiao Mu'er?" Xu Han said with a smile.

It's unclear whether Mu'er understood, but that didn't stop him from dancing along, making "oh oh oh" sounds from time to time. Everyone found it quite amusing.

It has to be said that since Mu'er came into the family, there has been significantly more laughter than before.

Especially in the second half of the year, although life was tough and the quality of life declined significantly.

But that doesn't stop the fact that there's a really fun little baby in the family, which makes the otherwise tough days full of life.

Everyone has had more smiles thanks to Mu'er. Sometimes, watching the little things the child does is so funny and cute.

Especially when Mu'er turned one year old, he became even more fun. He would laugh at anyone who teased him, never spoiling the fun.

Sometimes they also learn some simple phrases, such as reduplicated words like "饭饭" (fanfan), "拿拿" (nana), and "拍拍" (paipai).

Now she can also learn to greet people in a simple way, but what makes Xu Han particularly unhappy is that the first word Mu'er can say is not "mother", but fortunately it is not "father" either.

Instead, it was when Grandpa Zhao was reading medical books to Mu'er and introducing her to herbs, as usual, that Mu'er picked up the names of the herbs. For example, when Grandpa Zhao was talking about forsythia, he had just said the word "lian" when Mu'er picked up the word "qiao".

Later, as the number of medicines they received increased, Xu Han became very dissatisfied and began teaching Mu'er to call her "Mother".

Perhaps it was too difficult for Mu'er to call out "Mother," because she started calling out "Mother" afterward, but she pronounced "Father" very clearly.

After finishing their New Year's Eve dinner, the group started playing games in the main room.

First, the Taoist priest played with Mu'er on the rocking horse and stroller. After Mu'er got tired of playing, the Taoist priest started playing chess with Grandpa Zhao.

Lu Chuan and Xu Han then started to coax Mu'er to sleep. After Mu'er fell asleep, Xu Han pulled the Taoist priest and a few others to start playing mahjong.

Since Mu'er came along, we've had less time to play mahjong. But Mu'er is asleep today, and it's Lunar New Year's Eve, so we need to stay up all night. Now's the perfect time to play!

The group played until late at night, when they were all too tired to continue and finally went back to their rooms to rest.

The next morning, after the group got up and had breakfast, Xu Han took Mu'er to pay New Year's greetings to Grandpa Zhao and the Taoist priest.

Mu'er was taught how to give New Year's greetings by Xu Han for a long time! Later, it became muscle memory. As soon as Mu'er saw Xu Han take out a wooden basin and put it on the ground, she would kneel down with a thud and prepare to kowtow.

No sooner had Grandpa Zhao and the Taoist priest sat down than Xu Han took out the basin, and Mu'er knelt down and kowtowed deeply.

Everyone burst into laughter, and Mu'er, unaware of the reason, also joined in the laughter.

"Mu'er, wishing you a Happy New Year!"

"happy"

Congratulations on your fortune!

"fiscal"

"Good health~"

"Kang"

May everything be as you wish.

"meaning"

"Mu'er, you're amazing." Xu Han affectionately kissed Mu'er's little face.

The mother and son burst into laughter, and the Taoist priest and Grandpa Zhao generously gave them a large red envelope.

As soon as Mu'er got it, she walked unsteadily towards Xu Han.

It wasn't that I couldn't walk steadily; it was just that it was winter and the weather was cold, so I was wearing thick clothes.

As soon as Mu'er approached Xu Han, she stuffed the red envelope she had received into Xu Han's arms. After Xu Han took it, Mu'er swayed and went to the wooden basin.

With a thud, he knelt down and kowtowed again, then mumbled something, which Xu Han couldn't understand.

Everyone was even happier to see Mu'er laughing like that. Mu'er laughed along with them and stretched out her little hand to ask the Taoist priest and Grandpa Zhao for red envelopes.

Everyone laughed until tears streamed down their faces when they saw Mu'er's expression. Xu Han quickly said, "I didn't teach her that! You can't blame me for this."

"Mu'er's cleverness comes from you," Grandpa Zhao laughed heartily.

Mu'er got anxious when she saw that he still hadn't given her a red envelope, so she kowtowed again. The Taoist priest quickly pulled Mu'er into his arms and kissed her affectionately.

But Mu'er didn't buy it at all, and reached her little hand into the Taoist priest's pocket where he had just taken out the red envelope.

"Here you go, take it all, you little rascal."

The first day of the new year was incredibly lively; laughter had been constant throughout the morning. It was absolutely wonderful.
