Old Mrs. Xu disliked her second son and daughter-in-law, and by extension, she disliked the original owner of the body as well.
Just because her mother only gave birth to the original owner's daughter, and then did not conceive again after eight years, both her mother and the original owner were tormented.
When the original owner was eight years old, her father passed away. Her mother couldn't accept the blow and cried all day long. Coupled with the torment from Old Madam Xu, her health had long since collapsed.
A year later, due to a minor cold, the original owner's mother also passed away, following her father. Just like that, the original owner became an orphan without parents.
The original owner was only nine years old when her mother passed away. It must be said that although the original owner's parents were blindly filial and weak, they still loved her very much.
Although Grandma Xu was a source of trouble, the original owner's father would sometimes feel sorry for her and secretly buy her some candy or other food.
When the original owner's grandmother was being difficult, she would protect her. Although Old Mrs. Xu was dissatisfied, she didn't dare to push her too hard, after all, the housework still depended on her second son and his wife.
The eldest son and his wife are unreliable; they are lazy and cunning all day long, and the eldest daughter-in-law is lazy and does nothing.
Considering that his eldest daughter-in-law was his niece from his own family and had given birth to two big, healthy grandsons for him, he simply turned a blind eye.
As for the youngest son, he was a scholar, and they were even more reluctant to part with him. The whole family was counting on him to pass the imperial examination and become a high-ranking official!
Grandpa Xu turned a blind eye to Grandma Xu's actions. As long as they weren't too outrageous, he wouldn't interfere.
After the original owner's parents died, his life became even more difficult. He was considered an unlucky person by the villagers, who said he had caused his parents' deaths. Even his family members thought he was unlucky and made him do the hardest and most tiring work every day without feeding him.
They only get one meal a day, and sometimes they're not even given food until they finish their work.
Even worse, Old Mrs. Xu and her aunt, Madam Sun, frequently beat and scolded the original owner of the body.
Sun's two sons made fun of the original owner every day. They used vulgar language such as "money-losing good thing" and "jinx" to tease her. The original owner heard these insults every day.
And so the original owner endured until she was fifteen. One evening, because she didn't come home to cook on time, she was beaten by Old Mrs. Xu.
After the beating, we still had to cook for them, but unsurprisingly, they weren't given dinner again.
The original owner dragged his aching body back to his woodshed—yes, the woodshed!
The original owner of this house was only meant to do chores; he didn't even deserve a bed.
She drifted off to sleep, but during the night, she felt feverish and had a dry mouth.
But I had no strength at all, couldn't move at all, and drifted off to sleep again.
The next morning, Grandma Xu dragged me out of bed early to make breakfast for the whole family.
He was still cursing under his breath: "You good-for-nothing, get up! You lazy bum, hurry up and cook something, are you trying to starve me to death? You jinx!"
The original owner forced herself to make breakfast. After breakfast, she was asked to do the laundry, but her body simply couldn't take it anymore!
He whispered to Grandma Xu, "I really don't feel well, Grandma, could you please get me some medicine? Please, Grandma."
This only resulted in another beating and scolding from Old Mrs. Xu. Some neighbors in the village, feeling sorry for the child, said to Old Mrs. Xu, "The child does look unwell. Why don't you call a doctor to take a look?"
What she got in return was Old Mrs. Xu's insults: "A good-for-nothing like her doesn't deserve a doctor. Let her die and be done with it. She's a jinx. If you feel sorry for her, give me money."
Hearing what Old Mrs. Xu said, the neighbors dared not say a word. Old Mrs. Xu then picked up her stick and struck the original owner again, killing her.
