Chapter 302 Planning the Courtyard

As she was talking, Xu Han suddenly remembered the flower stand in her space.

There are also many cacti and succulents on the flower stand, as well as some roses and amaryllis.

Xu Han had taken these flowers out before the disaster year, and then put them back into her space during the disaster year. Now it's time to take them out and care for them.

When the two arrived home, the yard was quiet and they didn't see anyone.

Just as Xu Han was wondering, Mu'er's giggling laughter came from the backyard.

Xu Han and Lu Chuan exchanged a glance and walked together towards the backyard.

As soon as I walked in, I saw Grandpa Zhao holding Ze'er standing outside the chicken coop, while Mu'er was feeding the chicks with coarse grains in her hands.

"Mu'er is so amazing! She can even feed the chicks by herself. You're incredible!" Xu Han praised loudly as she walked over.

"Mother, Mu'er is feeding the chicks. The chicks eat to grow up and lay eggs to eat," Mu'er boasted as she saw her mother approaching.

"Okay, when the chicks lay eggs, Mommy will cook eggs for you," Xu Han said with a smile.

Seeing that it was getting late, Xu Han didn't stay in the backyard any longer and pulled Lu Chuan to the kitchen to make dinner.

After dinner, Grandpa Zhao continued to help look after the children, while Xu Han and Lu Chuan took out the flowers from their space and discussed where to plant them.

“There’s an osmanthus tree here, and I want to plant it in the yard. We don’t have any trees in our yard, and it gets really hot in the summer. There’s nowhere to escape the sun,” Xu Han said.

"Sure, osmanthus trees grow slowly and are not suitable for planting in the yard to provide shade. Didn't we leave an apricot tree today? We can plant the apricot tree in the front yard later, and the osmanthus tree can be planted in Grandpa Zhao's yard."

"When it blooms in autumn, the whole courtyard will be filled with the fragrance of osmanthus," Lu Chuan suggested.

“Okay, then let’s plant the apricot trees over by the oven. We can then dismantle the woodshed and build a new one outside. The woodshed looks bad and isn’t well-ventilated.”

"Okay, let's do it your way. We can leave the woodshed for now, since the apricot trees are still small and it won't hinder their growth. Let's focus on the most important tasks first, and then dismantle the woodshed when we have some free time later."

"Should we plant another tree in the yard? I see there's a ginkgo tree here, it's very pretty and has a good meaning."

"But where should we plant it? If we plant it in the vegetable garden, it will definitely block the sunlight, and there's no place to plant it in the front yard."

"How about we plant it next to the doghouse? In the summer, when it gets hot, it can also provide some shade for the doghouse."

You could also plant a tree next to the vegetable sink in the backyard, so the vegetables won't be exposed to the sun while washing them.

"Okay, let's plant a jujube tree in the backyard. I'll bring one of the jujube trees I planted back tomorrow and plant it in the backyard."

"That works too. There are still many flowers here. We can make some flowerpots and plant them all in them."

You can also make a flower bed along the courtyard wall at the main entrance and plant the flowers in it.

"We can also build a flower bed under the eaves of the main room. It would look beautiful if we planted some shorter flowers there. We could have flowers to look at all year round, and we could cut the flowers and put them in vases," Xu Han imagined.

“Okay, this is the perfect season for planting flowers. Let’s start building flower beds and planting trees tomorrow,” Lu Chuan agreed.

Lu Chuan thought that there shouldn't be many girls who don't like flowers, and filling the yard with flowers that his wife likes would be a particularly happy thing.

After they reached an agreement, they went to rest.

The next morning, Xu Han got up very early.

After breakfast, Xu Han began directing Lu Chuan and Grandpa Zhao to help dig holes and plant trees in the yard.

"We need to remove the bluestone slabs first. After that, we can start digging the pit. We'll then use bluestone slabs to create a small flower bed around the pit, where we can plant some flowers," Xu Han said.

“Okay, do you think it’s okay to dig here?” Lu Chuan asked, pointing to a bluestone slab.

"Move a little to the side, so we can enjoy the shade under the apricot tree when it grows bigger," Xu Han said.

"Okay, what about here?"

"Okay, let's do it here." Lu Chuan started working as soon as Xu Han agreed.

Mu'er played on the side, while Xu Han held Ze'er and watched the two of them work.

After Ze'er fell asleep, Xu Han took advantage of the time to quickly take out all the flowers and plants she had grown in the space.

All the different roses were temporarily placed aside, just enough to make sure they could get some sun.

Succulents and cacti were also displayed; Xu Han planted two types of cacti: Gymnocalycium mihanovichii and Gymnocalycium mihanovichii.

Both of these are known as flowering machines among cacti. I bought them because their flowers are really beautiful and they are also very easy to care for.

Most importantly, Xu Han wanted to experience the joy of pollinating, collecting seed pods, and planting cacti herself. So she bought many different varieties at the time.

Beside the flower stand were small seedlings that Xu Han had just planted some time ago; they were tiny and especially cute.

In addition, there are seed pods harvested in the fall that were not sown, which will be sown again when there is time later.

Water all the flowers that were moved out and set them aside. Since there were no flower stands, some flowers were simply placed on the ground.

This doesn't look good. Xu Han thought that when Lu Chuan had some free time, she would ask him to make a few flower stands for her.

However, there's no rush. Decorating the courtyard can't be done in a short time. Right now, we should focus on more important things.

By the time Lu Chuan finished digging all the tree pits, it was lunchtime.

After lunch, without even taking a break, Xu Han followed Lu Chuan up the hillside to find stones to build flower beds.

They were out of blue bricks at home, and it was impossible to buy them at this time of year. However, it wouldn't look good if they planted the flowers directly without building a flower bed. So, after discussing it, the two decided to build a flower bed with stones.

"Let's go over to the pile of stones. There are lots of stones there, all different sizes," Lu Chuan suggested.

"Okay, let's go straight over there."

After walking for a while, the two finally arrived at their destination. Lu Chuan looked around and then began picking up stones.

“Look at this one, let’s pick one like this. It doesn’t matter if it’s not flat, we can just chisel it with tools when we get back.” Lu Chuan showed Xu Han a stone.

“Okay, I’ll pick the ones you’re holding. You can put the ones you pick on this straw mat, and I’ll just put the ones I pick into my space.”

After glancing at it, Xu Han began to pick up stones.
