Chapter 314 Planting Flowers

When I woke up again, the sun was no longer very bright.

"You're awake! We've been waiting for you to mix the flower soil together!" Lu Chuan said with a grin as he held Ze'er in his arms.

"Then why didn't you wake me up?" Xu Han complained, looking bewildered.

This guy is really something. Even though I know he's doing it for my own good, he knows there's work to do today and he didn't call on me. He just asked for it and got scolded.

"Isn't it because you're sleeping so soundly? Besides, it's not that late yet, and the temperature outside is just right for planting flowers. Otherwise, it would be too hot for them to dry," Lu Chuan said with a grin.

Xu Han didn't respond to him. After washing her face, she carried Ze'er out of the courtyard.

Seeing this, Lu Chuan quickly grabbed his tools and followed behind.

"I dug up some garden soil from the wasteland next door. Do you think this is enough? If not, I'll go dig some more," Lu Chuan said with a fawning expression.

"This much should be enough. Let's start mixing in the soil."

Xu Han directed Lu Chuan to mix the garden soil, river sand, humus, pine needles, and previously fermented manure together in a certain proportion.

After mixing the soil, Xu Han went inside and handed Ze'er over to Grandpa Zhao to watch over, while she came out to plant flowers with Lu Chuan.

"Put the mixed soil into the flower bed first, but don't fill it too full. Put the rest into these large flower pots first."

Xu Han directed the work while helping to load the soil.

Have you decided what kind of flowers you want to plant in these flowerpots?

“Plant some peonies, peony flowers, chrysanthemums and the like in the flower beds outside.”

Plant roses, begonias, and the like in flowerpots; they're easier to move later if planted in pots.

"Okay, you put the flowers in the appropriate places, and I'll plant them."

"There are some sunflower and sunflower seeds in the space, and it seems there are also some daisies."

I'll go in and look for it in a bit. I bought a lot of different kinds of flower seeds; I saw them when I was tidying up last time, but I don't know where I put them now.

"Go and look for them first, and we'll plant them together in a bit," Lu Chuan said.

"Okay, you can plant it first. I'll go look for it."

Xu Han rummaged through the space for a long time before finally finding the flower seeds she had previously hidden away.

I counted them and there were quite a few; these could be planted much better.

After all the flowers were assigned, the two began planting them.

These flowers that need to be sown are grown in the same way as vegetables.

Simply scatter the seeds on the soil, cover them with a thin layer of soil, water them thoroughly, and then leave them alone.

After planting the flowers in the flower bed, Xu Han then scattered a layer of sunflower seeds underneath.

Hopefully, all these sunflowers will grow, and then we can propagate some in other places.

Xu Han also planted some wildflower seeds under the wall outside the yard.

These flower seeds were all bought online, and Xu Han doesn't know if they're the correct variety; she can only wait and see after they grow.

The two worked until it got dark before they finally finished planting all the flowers that Yunhua had brought back.

Some of these flowers were placed inside the yard, while others were planted outside the yard or in flower beds.

Xu Han also cultivated some sunflower seedlings in flowerpots. Once they grow out, she will transplant them and plant them outside the yard. Planting a row of them will look quite nice when they bloom.

Finally, I pruned some of the roses in the space and planted them all in a pot to see if they could take root and survive.

If the cuttings really take root, then there will be lots and lots of roses.

Some of these roses are climbing vines, and some are not. Xu Han paid special attention to propagating many climbing roses by cuttings.

Once these seedlings have grown up, they will all be planted outside or inside the courtyard wall.

Climbing roses, after a long period of accumulation, will grow into large patches, and when they bloom together, it will be absolutely stunning.

Xu Han is already very happy just thinking about it. She will not only be able to enjoy the flowers, but also have the freedom to arrange them.

With so many flowers in the yard, I can cut some beautiful bouquets to put in vases every season.

Then you can enjoy the flowers not only in the yard, but also inside the house.

The fragrance of flowers can be smelled as soon as you step outside; it's simply blissful.

"Finally finished planting them. This kind of flower is tiring work," Lu Chuan said, rubbing his aching back.

"Growing flowers and vegetables is a pleasure, and you feel a great sense of accomplishment when you harvest them."

Xu Han quite enjoyed the process; although she was tired, she was also very happy.

"Yes, yes, yes, my wife is right."

"I suddenly thought of something. This year we planted so much land, as well as flowers and vegetables, all of which need manure, but it seems we don't have enough manure." Xu Han frowned as she thought of this.

"It's really not enough. There's only corn and a few dogs' droppings in the house, plus the swill. There's really not much left."

Last year when it rained, a lot of manure was washed away, and now there's even less left.

"This is a big problem, and we must find a way to solve it."

"What can we do? There are hardly any large animals in the mountains now, and even small animals are scarce. Even if we wanted to collect their droppings, we couldn't."

"This method definitely won't work. Don't worry, let me think about it."

In fact, Xu Han already had an idea in mind, but she would have to try to find out if it would work. After all, she had never done it herself and had only heard about it from others in her previous life.

Lu Chuan had absolutely no hope. No matter how much he thought about it, his wife couldn't possibly conjure up so much manure out of nowhere in such a short time; it was simply impossible.

So Lu Chuan didn't pay attention to what Xu Han said, turned around, packed up his tools, and went into the courtyard.

After Xu Han got home, she went straight inside and wouldn't come out.

Tonight's dinner was prepared by Grandpa Zhao and Lu Chuan, while Xu Han stayed in her room writing and drawing because of the fertilizer issue.

Lu Chuan couldn't understand what Xu Han was doing either, so he simply stopped caring.

Xu Han locked herself in her room, carefully recalling how others fermented fertilizer in modern times.

In my past life, when I was watching short videos, I saw many bloggers making their own fertilizer and compost, but I didn't have any of the materials they used.

And even if they exist, they are very expensive in this era.

For example, brown sugar. Putting brown sugar in a compost bin can promote fermentation by bacteria, but brown sugar was very expensive in this era.
