Chapter 325 Building a Cowshed

"Should we talk to Xiaohan and Xiaochuan about it? I don't think you mentioned it at all today," Grandpa Zhao asked.

"We still need to reveal some things, but we absolutely cannot say that other countries will attack our country because of Xiao Han's special status."

After all, this isn't real; it's all just my speculation.

Other countries might not even know about this, since as far as I know, there really isn't anyone more capable than me.

"That's quite a possibility. When I was looking for that girl, it took me more than a year. No one else was that capable," the Taoist priest said proudly.

"Hahaha, you're just bragging. But this time I'd rather believe you."

After all, I don't want Xiaohan, Xiaochuan, or the children to be in any danger.

You should also ask your fellow disciples who are abroad to keep an eye on the developments in other countries, so that we can respond if anything happens.

"Do you need to remind me? Otherwise, what do you think I left Yunhua outside for?"

As for my fellow disciples, not all of them can be trusted.

It's always best to be cautious in everything and not rely too much on others.

"Okay, as long as you know what I mean. It's getting late, so let's get some rest today."

"Alright, I'm leaving. You should go to sleep early too."

After finishing his sentence, the Taoist priest returned to his room without looking back, took off his shoes, lay down, and fell asleep.

After traveling for so long, I'm exhausted.

Now that I'm full and comfortable in a place that I know and feel safe, I naturally sleep very soundly.

The next morning, everyone woke up late. When Xu Han got up, the rain outside had completely stopped.

The sun could still be faintly seen flickering in the sky, peeking out for a while and then hiding behind the clouds, as if playing hide-and-seek with a child.

"Get up, there's freshly made breakfast in the pot. We just ate, so go and eat," Grandpa Zhao said kindly.

"Okay, I'm going right now. Where's Lu Chuan? I haven't seen him."

"He and the Taoist priest went out after breakfast. They must have gone outside to find tree trunks, saying they needed to build a shed for the cattle later."

"We should build a cowshed first. The donkey shed in the backyard is too small; it really can't accommodate the two of them."

After Xu Han finished breakfast, Grandpa Zhao had already brought both children out.

Xu Han took Ze'er and started feeding him, while Mu'er sat aside and ate by herself.

The children hadn't finished eating when they heard the Taoist priest chattering outside the courtyard.

Behind them, Lu Chuan could be heard whispering his rebuttal, but because they were far apart, Xu Han couldn't hear what the two were saying.

Xu Han's gossipy nature kicked in instantly. She quickly fed Ze'er his complementary food and then carried the child out.

"I told you this pillar was too short, but you insisted it was fine. Look how short it is, we carried it back for nothing," Lu Chuan protested, sounding aggrieved.

"Since it's already been brought back, it's fine. It'll come in handy eventually. Should we bring it back again?"

"Forget it, let's just make do with it. It's not going to collapse anyway."

"What do you know? You're always making up bad ideas, and you don't listen to what Xiao Chuan says," Grandpa Zhao retorted.

"You're not even going to lift it, yet you're still nitpicking. You're such a busybody."

Xu Han listened silently, finding it quite amusing. Since the Taoist priest left, the house hadn't been this lively in a long time.

The atmosphere was best when the Taoist priest was around; everyone was noisy and happy.

"How do you plan to build the cowshed? Where will you build it?" Xu Han interrupted.

“Just enlarge the area next to the donkey shed; there’s plenty of space here, it can fit,” Lu Chuan replied.

"That works too. They're right next to each other, and it looks pleasing to the eye."

Xu Han didn't plant any vegetables in her backyard this year; she planted all the vegetables outside the yard.

Xu Han plans to clear out the backyard as well, and when she has time later, she will get some bluestone and pave the entire ground with bluestone slabs.

Then, build a small fish pond in the backyard, specifically for raising some pretty little fish, and then build an ecological tank. It would be absolutely perfect.

We can plant some flowers and plants in the backyard, and we can also dry grains on the bluestone slabs in the backyard during busy farming seasons.

"After the cowshed is finished, I'll also tidy up the pens for the chickens, ducks, and geese."

The ground outside is too wet to plant sweet potatoes yet.

“Okay, let’s not go to the fields today. Let’s tidy up the house first, so we’ll have the energy to take care of things in the fields,” Xu Han agreed.

"You really were waiting for me to come back and work!" the Taoist priest said, looking at everyone with disbelief.

"What did you think? I was just kidding you!" Grandpa Zhao laughed heartily.

"If I don't come back, will you stop planting?"

"Didn't we know you were coming back?" Lu Chuan replied cheekily.

"Master, don't listen to them. The sweet potato field has already been prepared with ridges. All that's left is to plant the sweet potatoes."

"But there's still a lot of work to do. We haven't planted corn, soybeans, rice, or peanuts yet," Xu Han replied with a smile.

Everyone laughed upon hearing this, but the Taoist priest looked dejected. Why did he suddenly feel that he had returned at the wrong time? Was it too late to leave now?

"Don't just stand there, hurry up and dig the hole." Grandpa Zhao even handed the Taoist priest a shovel in a particularly cheeky way, urging him to get to work.

Once the Taoist priest realized what was happening, he could only accept his fate. Oh well, he might as well get to work; he'd done plenty of work before anyway.

Working here is better than working in the capital, a place that devours people without spitting out their bones; at least I can get a good night's sleep.

It took the three of them a whole day to finish repairing the area in the backyard where they fed the livestock.

When evening came, Xu Han still cooked a lot of food.

However, today's dishes are the same as yesterday's, containing many of the Taoist priest's favorite foods.

"Hmm, I ate too much, my stomach is about to burst," the Taoist priest said, rubbing his stomach.

"How old are you? You can eat until you're stuffed, like you haven't eaten in eight hundred years." Grandpa Zhao started to criticize the Taoist priest again.

Xu Han realized that since the Taoist priest returned yesterday, Grandpa Zhao had been criticizing him quite a bit. Sometimes the Taoist priest would retort, and sometimes he would simply remain silent.

Xu Han and Lu Chuan were at a loss for words, carefully trying to minimize their presence, afraid of accidentally getting into trouble.

Finally, Grandpa Zhao got up and cooked a soup to help everyone digest. After drinking it, everyone stayed in the house to digest before going back to their rooms to rest.

A good night's sleep...
