After they woke up, the group of people, carrying their tools, went to the pond.
Lu Chuan and the Taoist priest first went down into the pond to clear out the fallen leaves.
Xu Han and Grandpa Zhao watched the children from the shore while directing the people in the pond.
"Hey Zhao, if you're not going to do any work, then shut up. You're just giving me all this nonsense. I'm being driven crazy by you down here," the Taoist priest roared irritably.
Seeing this, Xu Han touched her nose and unconsciously spoke less.
Although the Taoist priest wasn't talking about himself, Xu Han felt that if she kept rambling on, she would be the next one to be criticized.
"I was just reminding you because I was afraid you wouldn't see it. You've taken my kindness for granted and don't even know how to thank me," Grandpa Zhao retorted, sticking his neck out.
"Am I blind? If you're so capable, why don't you come down here?"
"Fine, I'll go down then. I'll definitely do a better job than you," Grandpa Zhao said defiantly.
Then he directly shoved Ze'er into Xu Han's arms and actually got down himself.
Seeing the two of them bickering, Lu Chuan ignored them and went about his own work.
"The pond has been cleaned up, but it's still wet because of the rain. Can we plant lotus roots directly in it?"
“Yes, after you arrange the lotus seeds, just cover them with a layer of soil and you can put water in them,” Xu Han replied.
Upon hearing this, Lu Chuan picked up the lotus seeds from the side and arranged them neatly at appropriate intervals.
Seeing this, the Taoist priest and Grandpa Zhao came up together and stood aside, throwing soil into the hole with shovels.
After all the lotus roots were arranged and covered with soil, Lu Chuan began to draw water from the stream into the pond.
You can simply dig a small ditch with a shovel and divert the water into the pond.
Both ponds were filled with water. Although there were no fish in the ponds now, the water could be added first, and once fish were caught in a while, they could be released directly into the ponds.
"Why don't we take advantage of today to dig out the irrigation ditches in the paddy fields as well?" Xu Han asked.
"Sure! We'll be able to transplant rice seedlings soon, and it's time to irrigate the paddy fields," Grandpa Zhao said.
"Then let's dig the ditch today, so we can release water tomorrow," Lu Chuan said.
Without further ado, after discussing it, everyone started digging ditches for the paddy fields while simultaneously filling the pond with water.
When we chose the paddy fields, we specifically chose a location next to a stream to make it easier to add and drain water later.
The paddy field is located above the two ponds; just dig upwards along the existing ditch.
Not many paddy fields were opened up this year, but these crops can still be planted in time. The planting times are staggered, so it won't cause any problems.
The main issue is that not much wasteland has been cleared this year. When things are less busy, we can clear some more land nearby.
The three of them dug the ditch together, and they were quite fast. Xu Han was just standing there idly anyway.
So he took the two children to the manure pile to check on the situation.
It's been a few days since the last time the compost pile was turned over, and it's almost time to turn it over again.
Upon arriving at the location, Xu Han lifted the tarpaulin to check the temperature. She felt the temperature was just right, but there was definitely no time to turn the pile today. So she first lifted the tarpaulin and then cut a large hole in the middle to allow the temperature inside to drop a bit.
To prevent the temperature from getting too high and causing over-fermentation, which could make the compost pile dangerous.
After finishing the three compost heaps, Xu Han took the children to the wasteland.
"Is the pond almost full? Should we block it?" Xu Han shouted to the people working in front of her.
Lu Chuan stood up, looked at the water level in the pond, and said, "Okay, you can block it."
Upon hearing this, Xu Han used a shovel to dig some soil and covered the gap on the side, directly blocking the water inlet with mud.
Once the blockage is closed, water will no longer flow into the pond. To add water again, simply open the gap.
Lu Chuan and his team had finished digging the ditch, and everyone took their tools and went home together.
After arriving home, Grandpa Zhao went to feed the livestock, the Taoist priest played with the children, and Xu Han and Lu Chuan went into the kitchen together.
"What are we having for dinner tonight?" Xu Han asked.
"I'm fine with anything, I'm not picky about food. Just make whatever you want to eat," Lu Chuan said, looking at Xu Han with a doting expression.
"There's cauliflower in the room, and we haven't finished the salted duck eggs we cooked this morning. How about we make a new dish today?"
"Sure, but how do you cook cauliflower and salted duck eggs together? I've never had that before. I wonder if it will taste weird?"
"No, the egg yolk cauliflower is very fragrant and delicious. You'll know once you try it after it's cooked," Xu Han said with a smile.
Then I took out the cauliflower from the space, cut it into small florets, soaked it in water for a while, and cleaned it.
Bring a pot of water to a boil, blanch the cleaned cauliflower in the boiling water, remove it and rinse it in cold water, then drain the water and set it aside.
While the cauliflower was being drained, Xu Han took out the salted duck eggs that she hadn't finished that morning from the kitchen cabinet.
Peel out the yolk; the yolk of a well-cured salted duck egg is especially fragrant.
It has a beautiful golden-yellow color, a sandy texture, and is oily, making it especially delicious.
Mash the peeled egg yolks with a spoon and set aside.
Heat oil in a separate pan, add the salted egg yolks and stir-fry until fragrant, then add the cauliflower and stir-fry evenly.
Add just a tiny bit of salt to the pot and it's ready to serve. Salted duck eggs are already salty, so if you add the normal amount of salt, it will definitely be extremely salty.
"This tastes really good, and the color looks beautiful too." Lu Chuan said as he tended the fire and watched Xu Han plate the food.
"Make one and try it," Xu Han said, pushing the plate towards Lu Chuan.
Lu Chuan didn't stand on ceremony. He wiped himself with his hands and then picked up one to eat.
After eating one, he immediately widened his eyes and said, "Mmm, delicious, very fragrant, and with a good texture."
"It's delicious, isn't it? I'm sure Mu'er will like it too," Xu Han said with a smile.
"The dishes made with salted egg yolks taste really good. I can try stir-frying other dishes with them in the future."
"Yes, there are many ways to cook with salted egg yolks. You can try them out in the future."
As Xu Han spoke, she cleaned the pot and then casually stir-fried some bok choy.
With the freshly cooked bean porridge, steamed buns, and salted egg whites, dinner is ready.
"Let's wash some more fruit later. It's been a long time since we've had any," Lu Chuan said.
"Okay, then I'll wash several different varieties of cherry tomatoes. Everyone likes to eat these."
