Chapter 436 Little Rooster

The bison on the stretcher had all been processed; the internal organs had been discarded, leaving only two hearts and a stomach, while the hide and liver were nowhere to be seen.

It must have been too heavy, so I didn't bring it back.

They only brought back one cow's head, but they had quite a few cow hooves, a total of eight.

Fortunately, the weather has gotten colder now, otherwise the beef would definitely have spoiled after being transported from the deep mountains.

Besides the prepared beef, a few pheasants and rabbits were also sparsely hanging on the stretcher.

Xu Han glanced at the two of them and said, "These two wild boars must weigh at least five or six hundred catties. You must have had a long and tiring journey back. Come inside and rest for a while. I'll go prepare lunch for you."

Lu Chuan grabbed Xu Han, who was about to walk towards the kitchen, and said, "You should put the beef away first. This beef was processed last night, and the meat is in good condition in this weather."

"Yes, we worked overtime last night to handle it."

Xu Han sighed and said, "You don't need to be in such a hurry. It's deep in the mountains at night. What if we attract large animals?"

Lu Chuan quickly explained, "It's not very late. We started processing it this afternoon, and we've buried all the internal organs that were removed. Don't worry, we wouldn't have done it if it were really dangerous."

"Alright then, I'll get these sorted out first."

Upon hearing this, the others quickly took their children inside. Once everyone was inside, Xu Han put the items into her spatial storage.

Then he took out food from his space and brought it in to them.

The two were eating when Xu Han suggested, "I see you also hunted pheasants. Are you going to process them today?"

Lu Chuan smacked his lips and said, "Let's get it done this afternoon, since we'll have to deal with it sooner or later anyway."

"Why don't we slaughter the roosters at home too? The chickens we raised this spring are quite big now. With the weather getting colder, it's not easy to raise too many chickens. We might as well select some big roosters to slaughter and store them so we can eat them anytime."

The Taoist priest replied, "That's fine. There are quite a few large roosters in the chicken coop. Let's pick some of the big ones and process them together later."

"Okay, then we'll go after we finish eating."

Seeing this, Xu Han went to boil water first, as a lot of hot water would be needed to pluck the chicken feathers later!

After Lu Chuan and the others finished eating, Grandpa Zhao took the children, and Xu Han went with them to the chicken coop to catch chickens.

There are three or four hundred chickens in the coop now, half of which are roosters. There's nothing we can do about it, since no one knows whether a chicken is rooster or hen when it hatches; we only find out after it's hatched.

Roosters grow faster than hens, making them easy to spot at a glance. Furthermore, roosters have large combs, making them even easier to distinguish.

Both Lu Chuan and the Taoist priest were experts at catching chickens. They could catch a chicken in one go if they saw it clearly. Moreover, the Taoist priest could also use stones picked up from the ground to throw at the chicken. Once the rooster hit the ground, it would fall down and not get up.

For the two of them, catching pheasants in the mountains was not difficult, and catching chickens in the chicken coop was even easier.

Seeing that she couldn't help, Xu Han just watched from the side. After they caught the fish, they put them in the basket next to Xu Han.

The chicken coop was quite large. After walking around inside and catching forty or fifty roosters, the two stopped.

Lu Chuan walked towards Xu Han carrying a large rooster in his hand. "Let's catch these for today. The others can still grow bigger. We can catch more later."

"Okay, that's quite a lot. If we process all of these, it will be enough for us to eat for a very long time."

Most of these chickens were hatched in early spring. After about seven months of growth, the larger ones have grown to three or four pounds, which is when the meat is tender and tastes better.

At the beginning, there were many more chickens hatched than this, but some were lost during the breeding process. As the chickens grew bigger, the losses were reduced, and in the end, this many chickens were left.

The three of them took the chicken home. Grandpa Zhao had already boiled three pots of water and immediately came out to greet them when they returned.

"So, how many chickens did you catch?"

Lu Chuan replied, "Quite a few. I counted them when I came back, a total of 46 roosters."

"Then this much water I boiled might not be enough."

Xu Han quickly replied, "Grandpa Zhao, don't rush, don't burn it yet. Burn it later when you've used it all."

"That works, but where will we process all these chickens?"

The Taoist priest said, "Let's go to the pond in the backyard. It's close to the sewer, so it's easy to flush there."

"Okay, I'll go get a knife and slaughter these chickens first."

Xu Han instructed, "Take out a wooden basin and collect some chicken blood. I'll stir-fry some chicken blood for you to eat later."

"Okay," Lu Chuan replied as he headed towards the kitchen.

The others, seeing this, took the chickens and went to the backyard.

The two children quickly followed, because the family often slaughtered game, so the two little ones were not afraid and often followed along to watch.

Including the pheasants that Lu Chuan and the Taoist priest brought back, there were a total of fifty-three chickens today. Xu Han collected a large basin full of chicken blood, enough for several meals.

After the chicken was slaughtered, everyone started plucking its feathers. While slaughtering the chicken, they didn't realize how many feathers there were, but when it came to plucking them, they felt there were just too many, and they couldn't possibly finish plucking them all.

Fortunately, there were many people in the family, and they were all used to handling things. The group divided the work and worked together, so the speed of processing was not too slow.

The Taoist priest and Lu Chuan were in charge of plucking the chicken feathers, Xu Han was in charge of washing the chicken and cleaning up any remaining feathers, while Grandpa Zhao was in charge of gutting the chicken.

While dealing with the chicken, Xu Han yelled at Lu Chuan and the Taoist priest, "Can you two be a little more serious? Look at this chicken, it still has so many feathers, and you just dumped it on me. You're so clumsy and inefficient."

Lu Chuan said innocently, "I didn't pluck the chicken feathers, so it's not my fault."

Xu Han picked up another chicken and said, "The one you pulled out isn't much better. See for yourself."

Lu Chuan looked at the pheasant in Xu Han's hand. Wasn't this the one he had just put in? He could see that there were still large pores on its wings, indicating that it hadn't been completely plucked.

Lu Chuan and the Taoist priest exchanged a silent glance, thinking to themselves, "Too fierce, really too fierce."

The Taoist priest winked at Lu Chuan, thinking to himself, "You'd better keep an eye on your wife."

Lu Chuan looked completely innocent. "I can't control it, I really can't. I'm afraid of my wife too. I dare not interfere!"

Grandpa Zhao watched the two exchanging glances but didn't try to help them; he was happy to watch the show.

The two stared at each other for a long time before Lu Chuan finally said, forcing himself to speak, "Honey, don't be angry, I'll pull it out again."
