Chapter 572 Selling Sprouts

Wei Yan knew that the master's family did not eat pork, so he did not include pork in the recipe he prepared.

"Yesterday, Brother Han Qi said he would bring a few rabbits over today and asked me to go to the shop to pick them up later. I was thinking of cooking a rabbit for everyone for lunch today, stir-frying some cabbage, and serving it with mixed grain rice. What do you think?"

When Wei Yan said these things, he was a little worried that Xu Han might blame him for doing too well. You know, when Wei Yan was in his former master's house, the servants had never eaten such good food.

Every servant in a household eats only cabbage and radishes every day, and only gets to see meat every ten days or so.

Moreover, the dishes were all cooked in large pots. Although they were supposed to be meat dishes, each person could only get a piece of meat. Even if there was meat in the pot, the person in charge would take it all away in advance, so there was no way for the people below to get any.

If the servants didn't eat like this, how could the master afford to feed them?

Paying wages and providing meat is simply impossible.

Wei Yan had eaten meat several times in the two days since he arrived, and yesterday he even killed several chickens, so he was quite guilty when he said this.

To everyone's surprise, Xu Han didn't care at all. "Hmm, let's add an egg drop soup too. It's cold today, so some soup will warm our stomachs."

Everyone's been so busy these past few days, we need to eat something good.

It wasn't that Xu Han was stingy; the people under her were indeed very capable, and they didn't let her worry about anything. They went to work as soon as it was light every morning and didn't come back until it was completely dark at night.

What boss wouldn't like an employee like this? It's okay to eat a little; it's not like we can't afford to.

If Xu Han is stingy, her subordinates will eventually learn to slack off too. In that case, it's better to be more generous.

This way, the people below are more motivated to work, and it saves me some trouble. Most importantly, this is how we get the work done!

After arranging lunch, Xu Han turned and went to the mountain produce shop.

Today the shop is going to stock bean sprouts, but I don't know how they'll sell. I'll have to go and check it out myself to be sure.

When she arrived at the shop, it was still packed with people, bustling with activity.

She nodded and greeted them, then wandered around the shop on her own.

The bean sprouts were placed in the most prominent position, and because of yesterday's vigorous promotion, some people bought bean sprouts today.

However, the effect was not very good, and not many people bought it.

Xu Han watched for a while, then came to Li Wen's side. At this moment, Li Wen was enthusiastically promoting a large basket of bean sprouts and mung bean sprouts in front of him.

"How's it going? Not selling well?"

Li Wen nodded. "It's probably because no one has tried it before, or it's not common. Some people bought some to try. Others just said they'd never eaten it before and didn't know how to eat it. So not many people bought it this morning, and we only bought a little bit."

Li Wen rummaged through the basket in front of him, and Xu Han followed his gaze. She saw a large basket full of bean sprouts, and had only bought one corner of it.

Xu Han casually picked up a handful of mung bean sprouts and soybean sprouts and said, "I'll make some for them to try. They don't buy them because many of them haven't eaten them before and don't know how to eat them, and even those who have eaten them don't really know how to make them. Since that's the case, let them try them and then teach them how to make them."

Without waiting for Li Wen's reply, Xu Han turned around and went to the small kitchen in the backyard.

The kitchen supplies here are not complete, but fortunately there are seasonings in the space. In addition, Xu Han came with a basket in her hand, and they did not know what was in the basket, but it was convenient to use now.

Unable to cook complicated dishes, Xu Han simply stir-fried a spicy and sour mung bean sprout dish and then made a cold soybean sprout salad.

These two dishes are very simple and can be prepared in about fifteen minutes from start to finish.

Xu Han brought the freshly cooked bean sprouts into the shop, and then asked Li Wen to invite the customers in the shop to come and try the new dish.

Everyone was very welcoming and gathered around as soon as they heard there were new dishes to try for free.

"I must say, these bean sprouts taste really good. The mung bean sprouts are delicious too, the sour and spicy flavor is really appetizing."

"Yes, yes, there are fewer vegetables in winter, so adding this dish to the table can change things up."

“Yes, yes, my husband complains every day that it’s either radishes or cabbage. These bean sprouts aren’t expensive, only two cents a pound. A pound is enough to make a big plate of stir-fried bean sprouts, enough for the whole family to have a meal. It’s a good deal.”

Xu Han listened to everyone talking at length, and when they had finished discussing, she spoke up, "Everyone, please be quiet and listen to me first. Sprouts are a new vegetable that our family grows; you can't find them anywhere else."

The price we bought wasn't expensive, only two coins per pound, and one pound was enough to cook a dish.

There are many ways to eat bean sprouts. Bean sprouts can be eaten cold, stir-fried, or made into soup. They taste great in various ways, such as stewed bean sprouts with tofu or stir-fried bean sprouts with meat.

The same goes for mung bean sprouts. Stir-fried mung bean sprouts, spicy and sour mung bean sprouts, and mung bean sprouts stir-fried with eggs all taste particularly good.

In short, there are many ways to eat bean sprouts; you can try making several different kinds when you get home.

Upon hearing that the price was not only cheap but also included cooking lessons, everyone immediately began to rush to buy, fearing that they would sell out if they were too late.

After the excitement subsided, Li Wen wiped the sweat from his forehead and gave Xu Han a thumbs up.

"Madam is truly amazing. I thought we wouldn't be able to sell any of these bean sprouts today, but I didn't expect to sell so many as soon as you arrived."

Xu Han smiled and said, "In the future, when you encounter this situation, especially when it's a dish they haven't tried before, you can make some for them to taste. Only after they've tried it themselves will they know if it's good or not."

Of course, if you don't know how to do it, you can just have someone else do it for you and then bring it over.

There's some leftover food in the kitchen. When there are more people later, you can bring it out for them to try.

If I teach them how to cook using the same method I just described, a large portion of them will choose to buy two coins' worth and try it out.

Li Wen nodded quickly, "Yes, two coins isn't expensive. Ordinary families are willing to buy some to try something new."

Besides, these bean sprouts taste so good; they'll definitely want to buy more next time. There aren't many vegetables available in winter; they're already tired of eating the same old cabbage and radishes.

Upon hearing this, Xu Han asked again, "By the way, is the tofu ready?"

Li Wen hurriedly said, "It's all ready. Everyone has eaten tofu before, and it's only halfway through the morning and we're almost sold out."

"Judging from the weather, it looks like it's going to snow, so the tofu delivery will probably be delayed until tomorrow."

I wonder if the sprouts that were supposed to be sent from home were delivered in advance.

If it snows heavily, the sprouts will have over-sprouted and it will all go to waste.
