After all the dried vegetables were dried, it was lunchtime.
After lunch, Xu Han went to the pumpkin patch outside. Late autumn is the season when pumpkins grow like crazy.
Last time, not many pumpkin shoots were dried. After drying, there were only a few left. Xu Han plans to pick more today.
All of them were dried into pumpkin shoots. After all, there were quite a few pumpkins planted. The remaining pumpkin seedlings that hadn't been planted in the wasteland had been planted by Xu Han on the other side of the stream, and she hadn't taken care of them, letting them grow as they pleased.
After picking all the tender pumpkins on this side of the wasteland, we came to the river and saw that although it hadn't been tended to, there were quite a few. Pumpkins don't like to get infested with insects and don't need much care.
We picked all the tender pumpkins here, and by the time we finished, it was already mid-afternoon.
We picked at least two thousand pounds of tender pumpkins today. Each small pumpkin weighed five or six pounds, and the larger ones weighed over ten pounds.
So Xu Han picked at least three hundred pumpkins today. She plans to cut all of them into pumpkin shoots.
There were about a thousand catties of tender pumpkins in the space, and they were all taken out and cut into pumpkin shoots.
After drying, it would be good if there were more than 300 jin of pumpkin shoots, since pumpkin shoots become very light after drying.
Xu Han returned home, found a shady spot, and set out a cutting board and chair to start chopping pumpkin shoots.
Cutting all these pumpkins was a big job, not easy at all, but luckily they were young pumpkins so it didn't require much effort.
But cutting back and forth like that really tires out your arms.
After cutting some, Xu Han started mixing the pumpkin with wood ash. In order to make pumpkin shoots, Xu Han specially saved the wood ash from the stove hole and did not spread it all on the ground as fertilizer.
However, when we were halfway through cutting it, we found that we still didn't have enough wood ash. There was nothing we could do; we couldn't finish drying it this time, so we had to wait a little longer.
Let's do it next time! Xu Han's arm is also in a lot of pain, so we can't cut it anymore.
Xu Han boiled a pot of water for herself and took a nice hot bath to relieve the aches and pains in her body.
After dinner, she started making clothes for the two of them again. Today she was making thin jackets, which took a lot of time. In one night, Xu Han had only made one and a half.
The thin jacket requires two layers of fabric, with cotton stuffing in between. Since it was Xu Han's first time making one, although she knew the steps, she wasn't very skilled yet, so it took quite a while.
On the fifth day, after getting up, Xu Han spread out the pumpkin shoots from the previous day to dry. She took the fallen wood ash and sprinkled it in the sweet potato field outside, thinking it could be used as fertilizer and shouldn't be wasted.
Today, Xu Han plans to make chicken mushroom oil, which she had promised to make for Lu Chuan, but she hasn't had time to make it yet because cleaning it is too troublesome.
Xu Han finally had some free time today, so she decided to start frying chicken and making matsutake oil.
After finishing breakfast and tending to the livestock, Xu Han moved a small chair to the riverbank.
Although you can wash at home, the water tank at home is filled with water!
If we move the water tank away, the water from the pipe will drip directly onto the ground, and if we get too close, it will splash onto our clothes. It's more convenient to wash by the river.
I picked some pumpkin leaves while passing by the pumpkin patch, which I'll use to clean the termite mushrooms later.
First, scrape off the soil from the base of the termite mushroom with a bamboo knife, then wipe the termite mushroom with pumpkin leaves.
Because the river here has flowing water, it's very convenient to wash them. I washed them until noon, and only then did I finish washing a whole basin of termite mushrooms.
Xu Han took the termite mushrooms home and started preparing the oil for frying them.
First, tear the washed termite mushrooms into small pieces by hand. Then, add oil to a pan, heat it up, add the termite mushrooms, and stir-fry continuously.
When you first add the termite mushrooms, the oil will be very cloudy because the termite mushrooms contain moisture.
By the time the termite mushrooms were fried until golden brown, the water had boiled down and the oil had become clear.
At this point, add an appropriate amount of salt to the pot for seasoning, and it's ready to serve.
Xu Han scooped out a small portion, let it cool in a basin, and then it could be put into a jar.
Lu Chuan and Xu Han both like spicy food. Xu Han added some chili threads and Sichuan peppercorns to the remaining chicken oil, stir-fried it briefly, and it was ready to serve.
There are two flavors of chicken mushroom oil, the spicy one is more spicy and the original one is less spicy.
After finishing, Xu Han made herself a bowl of noodles. It was especially delicious to eat with chicken oil mixed with noodles or rice noodles.
Xu Han first put some original flavored chicken oil into the noodles, took a bite, and found it very fragrant and delicious.
Another serving of chicken and mushroom oil with chili peppers arrived; it was fragrant and spicy, and also very delicious.
I wonder when Lu Chuan will be back. When he comes back, I must let him try this. It's so delicious.
After lunch, Xu Han took advantage of the bright sunshine to turn the dried vegetables in the yard over and continue drying them.
Then she went home and continued making clothes. Today, Xu Han planned to finish all the light cotton-padded jackets for the two of them.
Lu Chuan had one set made of navy blue and one set of gray. Xu Han had one set made of light pink and one set made of pale yellow.
When she first came here, Xu Han was really not used to wearing such brightly colored clothes.
Later, I made myself a light gray outfit, but I have to say it made me look older. It didn't look like something a young girl would wear at all; it was drab and unattractive.
Later, after wearing bright colors for a while, I got used to it. After all, these fabrics weren't bought at a high price, so I stopped being picky.
Xu Han used some of the dyed fabrics as linings for her clothes, or hid them away.
