By the time I got home, the sun had already set. As soon as I opened the door, I heard the chickens, ducks, and geese in the backyard chattering and squawking. They must have been starving these past few days.
The two of them didn't even have time to rest. They went to the backyard together, prepared food for the chickens, ducks, and geese, and quickly fed them.
The eggs laid these past few days have been mostly ruined; some inside the nest are still intact, but the eggs laid outside have been reduced to just a few shells.
Xu Han picked up all the eggs and put them into her spatial storage. Then she started cleaning up the poop in the enclosure, while Lu Chuan went over and watered the vegetables that needed watering.
After a flurry of activity, it was completely dark. Xu Han went to the kitchen first and started boiling water.
I haven't had a proper shower in days. I never imagined I'd be staying in the deep mountains for so many days. I only brought one set of clothes to change into.
I wash my clothes every night and then hang them out to dry during the day. I still haven't changed my clothes for two days!
Now that I'm home, I definitely need to take a good shower and change into clean clothes.
After the water was boiled, Xu Han took her clean clothes and went to the bathroom to take a shower.
Because I felt so dirty, I first took a wooden basin, washed my hair, and then scrubbed the dirt out of my fingernails.
After I felt I had washed enough and there was no more noticeable mud, I sat down in the bathtub and started soaking.
When Xu Han came out after taking a bath, Lu Chuan had already cleaned the yard. Seeing Xu Han come out, he immediately fetched water and went to take a bath himself.
Xu Han arrived at the room and saw the charcoal brazier that had already been lit. She moved a chair over and sat down to dry her hair.
Lu Chuan must have been worried that Xu Han would catch a cold while washing her hair, so he lit a charcoal brazier in the room beforehand. It has to be said, this man can be quite thoughtful sometimes.
When Xu Han's hair was almost dry, Lu Chuan came in.
After drying their hair, Lu Chuan moved a small table into the room and placed it next to the charcoal brazier before the two began to eat their dinner.
After being busy for several days in a row, I can finally enjoy the food in peace and quiet.
Xu Han took out roast chicken, roast meat, stir-fried mushrooms and greens, stir-fried beef with green peppers, and cucumber and egg soup from her space. The staple food was rice.
After dinner, Xu Han took out a pre-steamed crab and sat down to slowly gnaw on it.
Lu Chuan wouldn't even eat it if it was offered to him; he simply doesn't know how to enjoy good food!
Xu Han thought to herself, "They don't know how to enjoy the deliciousness of crabs at all. I'll just have to work hard and eat all the crabs in the space!"
The next day, Lu Chuan went hunting. This time he wouldn't stay out overnight and would return in the afternoon.
Today is a sunny day, and Xu Han plans to take out some of the fruit from her space and dry it into fruit preserves.
There aren't many fruits that can be dried in the space; only apples, apricots, and peaches are available.
The kiwis were too small to slice, making them inconvenient to eat, so Xu Han didn't make them.
First, let's make dried apples. Take out a basket of apples, wash them clean, peel them, cut the apples in half, and then cut them into four even pieces.
Soak the cut apples in salt water to prevent oxidation.
Then take them out and arrange them evenly on a bamboo tray. Let them air dry for a day, and then steam them again the next day.
Apples that are steamed and sun-dried three times taste better. This means steaming them once and sun-drying them once, repeating this process three times until the apples have no moisture left, at which point they can be stored.
After the apples are dried, the peaches are dried.
Wash the peaches thoroughly, remove the pits, slice them, put them in a wooden bowl, add an appropriate amount of sugar and marinate for a while, then put them in a pot to cook.
Once the peaches are cooked, simply take them out to dry. The water left over from cooking the peaches is very sweet and fragrant. You can dilute it with water and drink it as tea. It tastes delicious and has a strong peach flavor.
The method for making dried apricots is the same as for peaches. Simply cut the cleaned apricots in half, remove the pits, and then make them in the same way as dried peaches.
There were still many grapes at home, and Xu Han didn't know if she could dry them successfully, so she took some out and put them in a winnowing basket to dry. She would try a little first, and if it worked, she would make more.
After finishing making all the dried fruit, it was lunchtime. Xu took out the food from his spatial storage and started eating.
After eating, I went to cut pumpkin shoots. We had accumulated a lot of wood ash at home recently, and this time we were able to dry all the pumpkin shoots at once.
By 3 p.m., all the pumpkin shoots were finally processed.
Xu Han then went to the backyard to pick vegetables. She hadn't picked vegetables for several days, and some of them had already grown old.
Many of the small chili peppers had already turned red and wrinkled, so Xu Han picked off the wrinkled ones. They'll be ready to dry tomorrow.
Pick the reddened peppers, and the rest can grow a little longer! This also saves them from competing for nutrients with the other peppers.
After picking the chilies in the backyard, Xu Han took her basket and went out of the yard. She had planted a lot of chilies so that she could always have some to eat!
We planted a lot of them in the spare land outside, and now they can all be harvested.
First, I picked off all the clusters that had turned red; I picked so many at once.
I doubt there's enough room in the yard to dry all this stuff. I'll have to wait until tomorrow and spread a piece of oilcloth out on the open ground outside to dry it.
After Xu Han finished picking the chili peppers, Lu Chuan returned. Today's harvest was quite good; he had hunted seven pheasants and three rabbits.
There were other prey, but they were carried by the dogs, probably given to them by Lu Chuan.
After arriving home, Xu Han prepared the pheasant, while Lu Chuan prepared food for the dogs.
Today I even gave the dogs two extra rabbits as a reward.
When it was time to prepare dinner, the pheasant was still not ready, so Lu Chuan continued to process it, while Xu Han returned to the kitchen to start making dinner.
I've been thinking about what to eat but I still don't know. It's been so long since I've had pancakes. How about I make a few chive pancakes?
If you want to eat it, then of course you have to start making it. First, take out a bunch of chives from your space, then remove the old leaves, wash them clean, drain the water, and chop them into small pieces. Then, crack 20 eggs into a bowl.
Make a larger batch so the dogs can eat some too. You can also save some batter so you can easily make more whenever you want to eat it. It's convenient and saves time.
After beating the eggs well, add an appropriate amount of water and flour, and a little salt for seasoning.
Stir until it becomes a slightly thick batter, like yogurt.
You can also cook a pot of porridge in another pot, and then serve the pancakes with the porridge later.
