Chapter 282 Daily Life in the Twelfth Lunar Month

After letting the dog go, Grandpa Zhao turned around and went into the kitchen to make breakfast.

Xu Han stayed inside the house watching over the two children. Mu'er was still as well-behaved as before, while Ze'er slept during the day and cried at night.

Ze'er's behavior is causing Xu Han and Lu Chuan a lot of worry. If it goes on for too long, it could become a habit, which wouldn't be good.

So when Xu Han discovered this phenomenon, she tried to change Ze'er's lifestyle, otherwise it would be too painful if he could not sleep through the night anymore.

With Grandpa Zhao helping to look after the baby today, Xu Han had nothing to do during her postpartum period after breakfast.

When I was bored, I picked up a needle and thread and started embroidering a handkerchief in the room.

When I'm tired, I take a break; when I'm not tired, I embroider for a while, check on the children, and walk around. Time flies by.

When Lu Chuan returned, it was already lunchtime. As soon as he got back, he went to the room to check on Xu Han and her daughter.

"Was Ze'er good today? Did he cause you any trouble?" Lu Chuan asked with a grin.

"She just fell asleep after drinking milk. I don't know who this little guy is, he's so noisy all day long," Xu Han said helplessly.

"The child is still young. We'll set some rules for him when he's older," Lu Chuan said, looking at Ze'er with affection.

Xu Han rolled her eyes at Lu Chuan after hearing his words and didn't reply.

"Grandpa Zhao and I will continue digging the pond in a little while. Can you stay home and take care of the children by yourself?" Lu Chuan asked again.

“I can do it. How’s the progress on the pond?” Xu Han asked.

"It should be dug up in the next few days. The weather is cold now, but once we do the waterproofing in the spring, we can raise fish," Lu Chuan replied.

"Well, you guys do what you think is best. We haven't burned any charcoal yet, so don't forget to do it. It's already December," Xu Han added.

“I remember, there was plenty of charcoal left over from last year, enough to last for a while. I’ll start burning charcoal after I finish digging the pond.”

"You can make your own plans. I can't help you this year either. The Taoist priest isn't here either, so you and Grandpa Zhao will have to work harder."

"If we can't manage to clear the wasteland outside, just leave it empty for now. Focus on the more important things first, and don't overwork yourself," Xu Han added.

"Don't worry about things at home. Just focus on taking care of your health and the children," Lu Chuan said, putting his arm around Xu Han's waist and kissing her forehead.

"It's not as easy as you make it out to be. You're bound to be careless when you do things. If I don't remind you, you definitely won't remember, and I can't count on you at all," Xu Han complained.

"Hehehe, my wife is the best. This family can't function without her."

Xu Han ignored Lu Chuan's flattery and urged him to help Grandpa Zhao cook.

After lunch, Lu Chuan and Grandpa Zhao continued digging the pond, and it took them three days to finally finish.

After finishing at the pond, Lu Chuan and Grandpa Zhao immediately went to the charcoal kiln to burn charcoal.

The method of burning charcoal is the same as in previous years, but this year we are missing Xu Han, a great tool, so the work is naturally much slower.

By the time the charcoal was burned, it was already late December.

With the Lunar New Year just around the corner, the family hadn't prepared any New Year's goods yet, and Xu Han was still in her postpartum period. With not enough help at home, Xu Han couldn't help but feel anxious.

But there was nothing she could do. There wasn't much food or New Year's goods available this year, and Xu Han suddenly realized she wasn't in a hurry anymore.

I guess we'll have to keep things simple this year for the Lunar New Year. We'll definitely have a proper, lively celebration next year when the weather is better and there's plenty of food.

During this period, several light rains fell intermittently, which slowed down the charcoal burning process considerably.

The rain had just stopped that day, and Lu Chuan and Grandpa Zhao hurried to the charcoal kiln to retrieve the newly fired charcoal.

Hearing the commotion outside while holding her child in the main room, Xu Han said, "You can take some back for yourselves first. I'll bring them back in a few days after I finish my postpartum confinement. That way, you won't have to go through all that trouble."

"I know, you can stay here for now. There's not much coal this year, we can transport it all in a few trips with a cart, we don't need you anymore," Lu Chuan shouted into the main room.

"Then take it easy, and rest when you're tired."

"Xiaohan, I'll lock the door from the outside for you. Just stay home and don't go out unless you have to. Just keep an eye on the children," Grandpa Zhao instructed.

"I understand, don't worry."

Xu Han had a tough time taking care of two children at home by herself. She had to play with Mu'er one minute and look after the younger one the next, which made her very tired at the end of the day.

But there's no way around it; you've already given birth, so you can't just ignore it. Raising a child alone is quite overwhelming.

Xu Han finally understands what it's like to be a stay-at-home mom these days; it's really not easy.

Even though Mu'er is so well-behaved, Xu Han still finds her annoying sometimes, and the house is always a mess.

Mu'er can tidy up her toys by herself, but Xu Han sometimes gets flustered when changing Mu'er's diapers and often forgets where she puts things.

When I urgently need something and can't find it, I start rummaging through things. After finally finding it, I have to clean it up again after using it. Sometimes it's really frustrating.

Fortunately, when Lu Chuan isn't busy, he helps Xu Han take care of the child.

Especially at night, Lu Chuan usually takes care of the children. With Lu Chuan's help, Xu Han is much more relaxed, otherwise she would have gone crazy long ago.

Xu Han now thinks about how people in ancient times had many children and wondered how they raised them. Before Ze'er was born, she didn't realize that raising children would be so painful.

Why does Xu Han feel like taking care of two children is going crazy now that Ze'er is born?

Is it really because Mu'er is too well-behaved, or is it because the Taoist priest and Grandpa Zhao helped out before, which is why I didn't find taking care of the child tiring?

As Xu Han was thinking, she suddenly saw a small hand reaching out in front of her.

"Mommy~ have some water." Mu'er tugged at Xu Han's clothes and said.

"Okay, Mu'er, wait a moment, I'll go get you some water." After saying that, she put the sleeping Ze'er on the crib and then got up to get water for her eldest son.

When Xu Han returned, she also took some cookies and handed them to Mu'er.

"Mu'er, you can drink water and eat cookies here. After you're done, put the plate on the table. Mother will go tidy up the room. Please don't run around, okay?" Xu Han said gently.

“Okay, look at your little brother,” Mu’er said, pointing to the sleeping Ze’er.

"Mu'er is so good, Mommy loves you so much." Seeing this, Xu Han hugged Mu'er's forehead and gave her a big kiss.

Thinking to myself, he truly is my good son. He is so well-behaved. Who wouldn't love such a cute and obedient child?
