Chapter 28 Departing Overnight

An Shuyi also came over and said, "It does look similar to those cow bones. No wonder they dared to take it out so openly. They probably know we can't tell the difference."

"Then what should we do?" Xia Hua asked, looking at her.

"Of course we should kill him! How can we let such scoundrels go?" An Shuyi said, slashing at the village chief with her knife, but he dodged it.

“That’s exactly what I was thinking,” Xia Hua said, watching the village chief dodge. “Oh, I didn’t expect him to be a martial arts expert. Shu Shu, you take care of the rest, I’ll do this. It’s been a while since I’ve had any exercise, so this is a good opportunity to practice.”

“Alright!” An Shuyi said, turning to the other villagers. With a swift stroke, she cut down the villagers. Knowing they couldn’t hide any longer, the villagers who were hiding in the village ran out of the village.

Upon seeing this, Village Chief Lin told his clansmen to grab their weapons. Hunter Zhu also rushed forward with his son, hacking around with machetes in hand. The clansmen knew that there was definitely something wrong with those refugees this time, so they all swarmed in as well.

With An Shuyi and Xia Hua as the main force, the villagers were quickly overwhelmed. After all, besides the two of them, their numbers were twice that of the villagers. Even the women, except those who needed to look after their children, joined in. Although they couldn't beat them, several women working together were quite skilled at grabbing hair and faces.

Xia Hua, who was in charge of the village chief, was also knocked to the ground with a stick. Some villagers tried to run away when they saw that they couldn't win, but they were caught by their clansmen and beaten on the ground.

After all the villagers fell down, Village Chief Lin instructed, "Tie them up, and separate some of them so we can go into the village and take a look!" After saying that, Village Chief Lin led some of his clansmen into the village, while An Shuyi and Xia Hua did not go. Instead, they tied up the villagers.

Soon, Village Chief Lin returned with his men. The villagers who went were all pale-faced, some even had their legs trembling, and some were vomiting as they walked, even though they couldn't vomit anything.

An Shuyi and Xia Hua exchanged a glance, their smiles barely concealed. It was right that they hadn't entered the village; it was a good opportunity for the villagers who wanted meat soup to see what it was, especially their sons. If they hadn't interrupted, they would have drunk the soup.

They went with us into the village this time, and they were the ones who vomited the most. It's good that they learned their lesson, otherwise they won't remember.

Those clansmen who hadn't entered the village asked, "Village chief, is it really as An Shi said, is this really...?"

Village Chief Lin nodded, "I was careless this time. I didn't expect it to turn out like this. Luckily, we had Sister An and Aunt Xia, otherwise we clansmen would have been in trouble...! Sigh, let's not talk about it anymore. Let's pack our things and leave here tomorrow morning."

An Shuyi stepped forward and said, "Wood, let's pack our things and leave now. We can't stay here." There are so many dead people here. If other people come here, how will they explain it? It might turn into the story that these refugees killed the villagers and stole their livestock.

Judging from these villagers, they must be from this village. The livestock were probably eaten by these villagers long ago. As for the children and some unwilling villagers, this soup is probably their fate.

After thinking for a while, Village Chief Lin also felt it was time to leave. "Alright, let's leave now. You all hurry up and pack your things, and give the horses, cows, and mules some water, otherwise we don't know when we'll have water again after we leave here."

"Village chief, what should we do with these people?" the villagers asked, looking at the bound villagers.

"Of course we should kill them. Do you think we should report them to the authorities? Besides, there are no officials here to handle this now. They've probably all run away by now."

"That's right! These scoundrels shouldn't be let off so easily; they should be killed!"

"Yes, kill them. If it weren't for Sister An and Aunt Xia, we would have been tricked. We can't let them go like this."

"Quiet!" Village Chief Lin looked up. "We can't spare anyone to report to the authorities right now, so all of you villagers, raise your hands and vote on whether or not to kill them."

"Wood, can you stop babbling? What's with this vote? We all agree, hurry up! If you're too scared, we'll do it." He said, swinging the knife at one of the villagers, but was stopped.

A woman snatched the knife away, saying, "Are you stupid? If you use this knife to kill people, how am I supposed to cook? Go borrow Sister An's knife; that one is much better."

The tribesman, whose knife had been taken from him, gave an awkward smile and said, "I'll go pack my things. You guys take over, Wood!"

An Shuyi walked over and said, "We can't leave the bodies here. If they stay here for too long, a plague will break out, and people will see them. We should dump them in the village and then kill them."

Village Chief Lin nodded, "Sister-in-law is the most thoughtful. You should quickly drag those villagers into the village and kill them there."

The villagers backed away in fear, crying, "No, you can't kill us! It was the village chief who made us do it! It has nothing to do with us!"

"Yes, it's him! He forced us into this situation. We didn't want this to happen! Please, have mercy on us!"

"Please, please let us go. We really won't do it again. We promise we'll never do it again. Please."

Xia Hua stepped forward and slapped the villagers' legs a few times. "People who don't even spare their own children, what right do you have to ask us to let you go? Hurry up and throw them all into the village. If you keep dawdling, the people will come, and we'll see how you explain yourselves."

Village Chief Lin had his clansmen drag the villagers into the house. There were only about sixty people, and it took two rooms to fit them all. There were men and women, but not a single child or elderly person.

At first, no one made a move, but when An Shuyi and Xia Hua came in, they killed them one by one with a knife. Only then did the clansmen use their hoes to smash them down, and soon there was no one left alive.

"Shushu, let's go!" Xia Hua pulled An Shuyi away, too lazy to pay attention to these good-for-nothings. If they hadn't been with them, she probably wouldn't have dared to kill them.

After they left, Village Chief Lin had the door closed and then left as well. The other villagers had also packed their things, waiting for them to arrive so they could set off. Some villagers were even fetching water, wanting to take as much as possible with them.

After everyone had finished getting ready and no more water was needed, Village Chief Lin said, "Let's go!"

Although it was late, the moon was bright enough for them to see clearly as they traveled. When they were far from the village, An Shuyi checked the time and it was almost 9 PM before letting the villagers stop to rest.

They spent the whole day washing and cleaning, preparing dinner, when the villagers reappeared. What followed was a series of events that prevented them from even having dinner.

As soon as they stopped to rest, the women started a fire and cooked. Although it was just simple vegetable pancakes and mixed flour steamed buns, it was enough to fill their stomachs.
