Chapter 37 Wolves

She and Huahua can kill a maximum of five wolves, but that's only when they're surrounded. As long as they can hold off the wolves, she and Huahua can kill even more.

Village Chief Lin looked at his clansmen and said, “Don’t worry, sisters-in-law. We’ll work together. Even if we can’t kill the wolf, we can at least hold it off. And if you two can kill it, then we can too.”

“Alright!” An Shuyi nodded. “Then it’s settled. Everyone be careful and don’t get bitten. In particular, don’t let the wolf go towards the cave. Even if you have to drag it, you have to keep it there.”

The cave was inhabited by elderly people and children who were powerless to even kill a chicken, while the women were outside. If the wolf were allowed to pass through, they would surely die, and she did not want any of her people to die here.

"Don't worry, sister-in-law, those wolves will have to step over our dead bodies to get across," the tribespeople said in unison.

"Alright, well done! Keep it up! I bet you didn't get enough meat yesterday. Although wolf meat isn't very tasty, it's still meat. Whether you get to eat it or not depends on yourselves." Looking at the wolves that were already approaching, An Shuyi continued, "Wolves are coming! Everyone be careful."

The wolves swarmed forward, with An Shuyi and Xia Hua leading the charge. As the wolves approached, they brandished their knives, slashing at the wolves with a single blow. One wolf fell to the ground with just one strike. An Shuyi held the knife in both hands, back to back with Xia Hua, each taking responsibility for one side. They would also finish off any wolves that weren't dead.

The tribesmen did not disappoint them. The two women worked together as if they had agreed beforehand. Although they couldn't kill the wolves immediately, they didn't let them retreat. Zhu the hunter also used his machete to kill wolves. Although he wasn't as skilled as the two women, he was still quite good. His four sons, perhaps because they hunted often, took out their bows and stood at a distance, nocking arrows and shooting. Although they couldn't kill the wolves with a single arrow, the wounds they inflicted made it easier for the tribesmen to finish them off.

As more and more wolves died, the wolves began to retreat. At this moment, the alpha wolf emerged from behind. "Shushu, I'll go kill that alpha wolf," Xia Hua said, looking at the alpha wolf that had appeared.

An Shuyi refused without hesitation, "No, you can't be stubborn. Think about whether your body can handle such a thing. I'll go with you."

She couldn't let Hua Hua risk her life just to kill these wolves. Compared to Hua Hua, those tribespeople were not as important as her.

Xia Hua nodded in agreement. Actually, her body wasn't that bad right now, and killing this wolf was no problem for her. You know, back in the modern era, even when she and Shu Shu were injured, they were able to kill five lions in North America.

But seeing that Shushu disagreed, she decided to go along with it. Otherwise, if she killed the wolves later, Shushu would scold her, and she wouldn't do something so foolish.

As if they had been working together for years, the two began to approach the wolf. The wolf knew it had been discovered as they approached and began to howl to urge the other wolves to come over. However, An Shuyi and her partner did not give it that chance. As the wolf howled, they slashed with their knives, forcing the wolf to stop howling and dodge the knife.

An Shuyi swung her knife, slicing it across the wolf's belly, but the wolf dodged it, only managing to chip off some of its fur. The next second, however, Xia Hua slashed at the wolf's eye. Seeing the wolf injured, An Shuyi turned around and slashed her broadsword across the wolf's back, trying to drive the knife into the wolf's body. But she didn't have enough strength, and the knife got stuck inside the wolf's body.

Seeing that the wolf's corpse was still writhing, Xia Hua slashed the wolf's neck with her knife, and the wolf instantly stopped breathing.

When the wolves saw their alpha wolf killed, they tried to run away. But the tribe knew that wolves were vengeful creatures. If they didn't kill them this time, they would live in constant fear, never knowing when a wolf would come out and bite them.

So when the wolves tried to escape, Village Chief Lin shouted, "Don't let those wolves get away! Kill them all!"

An Shuyi and Xia Hua ignored the dead wolf and drew their broadswords, starting to kill the other wolves with their tribesmen. They quickly killed all the wolves and found none left alive. Only then did they lie down on the ground in peace. But before they could rest for long, they hurriedly cleaned up the wolf carcasses. Otherwise, the strong smell of blood would attract other animals, and they wouldn't have the strength to kill any more.

Not many clansmen were injured this time, and no one was seriously injured. A few were just scratched by wolves, but it wasn't serious. Village Chief Lin told them to go see Doctor Liu and get some bandages.

Those tribesmen who were not injured were assigned to carry the wolves to the cave Xia Hua had mentioned. Zhu the hunter joined them, and although it was still dark, they couldn't just leave the wolves there. So they skinned the wolves together, and Zhu the hunter could teach them. The rest of the tribesmen covered the blood on the ground with mud.

The women weren't idle either; they lit fires and heated water for them to wash up, and killed the wolves, their bodies covered in blood.

An Shuyi and Xia Hua didn't move, they just sat there back to back. The two of them had killed more wolves than their clansmen had killed. Although they weren't injured, they were both a little exhausted.

"Mother, Aunt, we've heated some water and put it on the carriage. You can go wash up." Zhao said as she came over.

"Okay, I understand," An Shuyi turned to look at Xia Hua, "Hua Hua, do you want to go first or should I?"

Xia Hua shook her head, "You go first, I'll go get my clothes." She stood up and casually pulled Shu Shu up with her.

"Alright, I'll go wash first, you can wash in the back." An Shuyi went to her family's carriage, only to find that everything inside had been taken out and put in baskets. She took her clothes out of the baskets and got into the carriage. Perhaps because the water supply was plentiful now, there were two large buckets of water inside.

But the washing utensils were too small, just a wooden basin. She put the water bucket and the wooden basin in the storeroom, and then took out her large bath tub. The carriage was not small, so the bath tub could fit. She took a bucket of water from the storeroom and poured it into the tub, along with the hot water from the wooden tub. Although it wasn't very hot, it was enough to wash. She washed her hair first, and then took a bath. After she finished washing, she packed up her things and got off the carriage.

"Pour out the water she left in the basin," she said. "Zhao, go and fetch another bucket of hot water."

"Yes, Mother." Zhao went to fetch water.
