Chapter 159 Why hasn't Second Uncle come back yet?

Jiang Wanwan and Jiang Jialin were met with envious glances from the people on the oxcart.

If all this rice belonged to their family, they would love to taste the flavor of rice too.

Despite their envy, the women felt that Old Jiang's family didn't want to live a good life, which was why they were so unwilling to spend so much money on rice and noodles!

Jiang Wanwan glanced around and realized that her second uncle hadn't returned yet.

It's already past 5 PM, why haven't we seen him yet?

She looked at her adoptive father, "Dad, why hasn't Second Uncle come back yet? Could something have happened to him?"

"It shouldn't be a problem. Your second uncle worked in town for a few years before and is very familiar with the area. Nothing should happen. Don't worry about it," Jiang Jialin said.

"Hey, Jiasheng really hasn't come back yet. We've been waiting on the oxcart for ages, but we haven't seen him. Could it be that he's delayed because he can't sell all the eggs?"

"That should be the case."

Ah Zhong said, "If Jia Sheng doesn't return in another 15 minutes, we'll have to go back first, otherwise we won't be able to get home before dark."

In ancient times, nighttime was very unsafe. People worried about encountering bad people and wild beasts. Therefore, everyone chose to return home before dark.

No one objected, and they continued chatting while sitting on the oxcart.

A quarter of an hour passed quickly, but there was still no sign of Uncle Jiang.

Ah Zhong said to Jiang Jialin, feeling embarrassed, "Ah Lin, I'm really sorry. It's getting late, we have to go home now."

Jiang Jialin shook his head, "It's alright, let's go back first. It's not safe to go back too late."

"Alright!" Ah Zhong raised the whip high and yanked the reins sharply. The old ox slowly started moving forward.

"Hey, wait a minute! Ah Zhong, Third Brother, wait for me."

Just then, Jiang Erbo's anxious voice rang out. Everyone turned around and saw Jiang Erbo carrying a basket, running quickly toward them.

"Whoa~~" Ah Zhong quickly pulled on the reins, stopping the old ox.

Uncle Jiang swung his legs incredibly fast and quickly reached the oxcart. He threw the basket to the ground, put his hands on his hips, bent over slightly, and gasped for breath.

"Phew~ Phew~ Luckily I made it, I'm exhausted!"

"Jiasheng, hurry up and come up, or it will get late," Ah Zhong urged.

"Okay, I'll get on right away." Uncle Jiang picked up the basket from the ground and climbed onto the oxcart using both his hands and feet. He turned to look at everyone apologetically, "Sorry, something came up and I was delayed for a while."

Aunt Li quickly waved her hand, "Hey, what's the big deal? We're all fellow villagers, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Everyone has times when they're delayed."

Just as Uncle Jiang was about to say something, he suddenly noticed several cloth bags on the oxcart. He had very sharp eyes and immediately recognized what was inside.

His eyes were full of envy. "Aunt Li, did you buy so much grain? You even have rice and fine flour!"

Aunt Li glared, "This isn't mine, it's yours!"

"Huh? What did you say?" Uncle Jiang thought he had misheard and asked again.

"You heard me right, it's yours. Your niece and third brother bought it," a woman said.

"What!" Uncle Jiang's eyes widened as he turned to look at Jiang Wanwan and her father.

Then he noticed a large basket next to his third brother. The basket was filled to the brim with something.

Uncle Jiang was an accountant before, and he could tell at a glance that the items he had bought cost more than five strings of cash.
