Chapter 16 Unsolicited kindness is either a trick or a theft!

Just as Hu was in unbearable pain, Tongzhu finally returned with a midwife in her forties.

"Sir, the midwife has arrived," Tongzhu said.

"I'd like to trouble you, madam, to deliver my wife's baby," Su Mu said to the midwife.

“Young master, there’s no need for such formalities. I will now deliver the baby for your wife.”

Su Mu and Tong Tie, being men, went to the outer room to avoid suspicion, leaving Hu Shi and the midwife in the temple.

"Ouch, that hurts!"

"Madam, push harder!"

About half an hour later, the sound of a baby crying was finally heard.

As the baby cried, the sky grew darker and the rain intensified.

Su Mu looked up at the sky, becoming increasingly convinced that his daughter was a jinx.

The midwife came out carrying the baby wrapped in Hu's outer robe, and said with a happy face, "Congratulations, sir! Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!"

Another daughter! Su Mu's face turned as black as the bottom of a clay pot.

Although they had already guessed after the bald-headed monk's divination that this pregnancy would be another girl, they still held onto a sliver of hope.

He didn't even glance at the baby in the swaddling clothes, and the midwife knew that Su Mu was displeased.

Just as they were feeling awkward, another person suddenly walked in.

And she was pregnant.

The pregnant woman was carrying a two-year-old boy on her back.

Both of them got soaked in the rain.

The pregnant woman was Lu Mingzhu, the third daughter-in-law of the Jiang family. The child on her back was Jiang Hu, the eldest son of the second wife.

Because her father-in-law had passed away, everyone in the family went to the funeral, leaving only her, who was nine months pregnant, with her one-year-old son and two-year-old nephew at home. Unexpectedly, her two-year-old nephew developed a high fever, convulsed, and started talking incoherently.

Left with no other option, Lu Mingzhu entrusted her one-year-old son to a neighbor. Carrying her two-year-old nephew on her back, she headed to the town to find a doctor. However, the town doctor examined the child and shook his head repeatedly, telling Lu Mingzhu to take the child to the county hospital for treatment.

Lu Mingzhu was very anxious, worried that her nephew, whom she had entrusted with her care, had ended up like this. She feared that when her second brother and sister-in-law questioned her, she wouldn't be able to explain herself clearly.

Finally, she gritted her teeth, carried her two-year-old nephew on her back, and headed towards the county.

Upon arriving at the county hospital, the doctor examined and treated his nephew, administered medicine, and the nephew's fever subsided. Lu Mingzhu then carried her nephew back home.

Unexpectedly, the once sunny sky suddenly became overcast and a heavy rain began to fall.

Lu Mingzhu remembered that her nephew on her back had just recovered from a fever and couldn't get wet in the rain, so she quickly looked for a place to shelter from the rain.

As luck would have it, they discovered this dilapidated temple.

Lu Mingzhu hesitated when she saw Su Mu and the others in the temple.

Su Mu, in particular, had a dark expression on his face and looked extremely fierce.

Finally, Lu Mingzhu gritted her teeth and said, "Gentlemen, I didn't want to bother you, but I'm feeling unwell and the baby on my back just had a fever, so I had to come in to take shelter from the rain. I hope you will understand."

Su Mu was already in a state of shock when he saw Lu Mingzhu.

He intuitively felt that the bald-headed monk's divination indicated that the person he needed help was the pregnant woman and child in front of him.

Su Mu was overjoyed, and his expression softened considerably. He smiled and said, "Hehehe, what are you saying, Madam? The temple isn't mine. Anyone can come in to take shelter from the rain and rest. Madam doesn't need to tell me."

Then, he glanced at Lu Mingzhu seemingly casually and said warmly, "I see that the child on your back is pale, and is probably sick. Now that he has been caught in the rain, I'm afraid it's not good."

And Madam, you are pregnant, so you should definitely not get wet in the rain. Luckily, I have some clothes here; if you don't mind, you and the baby can change into clean robes first.”

Lu Mingzhu's alarm bells rang loudly as she suspiciously sized up Su Mu.

Unsolicited kindness is either a sign of ulterior motives or theft!
