Chapter 281 Flattery

Jiang Wanwan glared, straightened her back, and replied with righteous indignation, "Big brother, I would never do such a thing. It's just that I see you working so hard all day long under the scorching sun to protect the safety of our people. It's really too much for you."

I'm just an ordinary citizen and can't really share your burdens, but I still want to express my gratitude.

She looked around and saw that there were very few people entering the city gate. She quickly took out a bag of mosquito coils from her shoulder bag and handed it to the burly man with the thick beard.

"Brother, this is a gift for you, please accept it."

The burly man with the thick beard turned pale with fright, feeling as if the thing in his hand was a hot potato, and wanted to immediately shove it back to Jiang Wanwan.

Offering bribes in broad daylight, isn't that harming him?

If someone reports him to the county government, he'll be in big trouble.

Seeing the burly man's panicked expression, Jiang Wanwan quickly explained, "Brother, I know you're very flustered, but don't panic. This bag doesn't contain money or anything valuable. It's just something I made myself. It's not valuable at all. You can open it and take a look if you don't believe me."

The burly man with the thick beard calmed down a bit. He glanced down at the bag in his arms and noticed the attractive designs and words on it: "Jiang's Mosquito Coils," "Light a mosquito coil, sleep soundly all night," and so on. He murmured, "Mosquito coils? What are mosquito coils?"

Judging from the appearance of the burly man with the thick beard, the mosquito coil gust probably hasn't even swept through the entire town yet.

She needs to work harder.

Jiang Wanwan explained, "Mosquito coils are incense that repels mosquitoes, and they are very effective. Once you light one, you won't be afraid of mosquitoes."

The burly man with the thick beard's eyes lit up, and he eagerly opened the bag.

Inside the bag were two rolls of dark, gritty stuff. When you brought them to your nose and took a gentle sniff, you could smell faint wisps of osmanthus fragrance, which was quite pleasant.

"This thing looks ordinary, nothing special, but I never expected it to be so useful," the burly man with the thick beard exclaimed.

"Hehe, enough said, you'll know once you try it." After Jiang Wanwan finished speaking, she noticed out of the corner of her eye that another soldier was glancing over from time to time.

"In that case, thank you very much, young lady." The burly man with the thick beard said with a smile.

Uncle Jiang and Jiang Xun stared blankly at the smile on the bearded man's face.

Uncle Jiang murmured, "That soldier laughed, laughed? So Wan'er and we won't be kicked out?"

Jiang Xun nodded woodenly, "Yeah, I smiled. I guess I won't be kicked out, right?"

The two looked at each other, their eyes wide with disbelief, as if they had seen a ghost.

Jiang Wanwan had no idea that the two men were holding their breath for her. She strolled over to another soldier, flattered him, and then took out a mosquito coil with osmanthus scent from her satchel and gave it to him.

She chatted and laughed with the two soldiers for a while before calling Uncle Jiang to bring the oxcart over.

Jiang Wanwan took out six coins from her crossbody bag and handed them to the bearded man. "Brother, this is our entrance fee."

The burly man with the thick beard quickly waved his hand and said with a smile, "No need, we already collected your entrance fee this morning. We've checked your belongings and if everything is in order, you can enter the city."

"Hehe. I can't accept this." Jiang Wanwan said apologetically, but she had already put the copper coins back into her crossbody bag.

Seeing this, the bearded man and another soldier couldn't help but laugh.

That little girl is really cunning.

The two men gave the oxcart a cursory inspection and then allowed Jiang Wanwan and the other two to enter the city.
