Chapter Six: Kneel Down Before Me

He Zhilan, who was not far away, also heard her husband's roar. She got up, wiped her hands, and comforted Lin Qixia: "Come on, let's go see what's wrong with your brother."

"He's probably not feeling well, it has nothing to do with you, don't be afraid." She said this to reassure Lin Qixia, afraid of frightening her.

Lin Qixia replied, "Okay."

However, my intuition tells me things might not be that simple.

Afterwards, she and He Zhilan entered the main house together, which was the side room where her elder brother was.

Upon entering and seeing Lin Jiudong standing next to her elder brother, Lin Qixia instantly understood what was going on.

"What's wrong? Why are you angry again?" He Zhilan frowned and stepped forward to check on Lin Xiao's condition.

Lin Jiudong smiled at Lin Qixia, his eyes full of provocation.

From the moment her sister-in-law started ordering her around, Lin Jiudong realized that she couldn't let Lin Qixia get away with it again and again, so she thought of her older brother as a savior.

Ever since my eldest brother was injured during his forced labor last year, he has been in a bad mood, but he still loves them, especially her. She is usually sweet-talking and good at coaxing people.

Lin Xiao rarely got angry when he was with her, and he would listen to her and even show her favoritism.

"What happened?" Lin Xiao pointed directly at Lin Qixia: "Ask her what happened? How could she actually fight with your sister?"

He Zhilan was stunned when she heard her husband's accusation. "Brother Xiao, don't be angry. I don't know what Dong'er said to you, but..."

"But what?"

Before she could say anything, Lin Xiao interrupted her: "What did Dong'er say wrong? You know Xia'er's troublemaking nature all the time!"

He Zhilan pursed her lips, and because of Lin Xiao's attitude, she realized that they had been too strict with Xia'er and too biased towards Dong'er all along.

This was the first time she felt indignant on Xia'er's behalf.

"Can't you see with your eyes open? Xia'er is so badly injured," He Zhilan said angrily.

Lin Xiao scoffed at her words: "Heh, she's always been good at pretending. She fooled you this easily? But you, you believed her so readily and even punished Dong'er because of it?"

"You knew perfectly well that she had been in poor health since childhood, yet you still made her do heavy work?"

Besides, Xia'er looks perfectly fine, where is she injured?

He was definitely faking it to fool himself and his wife!

He even caused Dong'er to be punished so severely. If he hadn't seen her almost faint from working and asked her about it, he wouldn't have known that Dong'er had been punished.

As the eldest brother, he naturally couldn't let Dong'er suffer this injustice for nothing!

“I…” He Zhilan’s eyes reddened with grievance after Lin Xiao’s shouting, and she was speechless.

She has always been tongue-tied, especially at times like this when she doesn't know how to refute.

Seeing that the couple was about to break up, Lin Qixia sighed helplessly.

That brat Lin Jiudong is such a good actress, we can't let her stir up trouble here!

She cleared her throat and said bluntly, "Big brother, aren't you being too biased?"

"What did you say?" Lin Xiao, the eldest brother, was already regretting his harsh tone when he saw his wife looking so aggrieved that she was about to cry.

Hearing Lin Qixia's voice now, anger surged up in his heart again.

"Am I biased?" he asked.

Lin Qixia smiled sarcastically: "Otherwise what? My sister-in-law already said I was injured, and you don't believe me? You don't even believe my sister-in-law?"

Because Lin Qixia's injury was located in a rather remote area, and Lin Xiao was sitting with his view low, his line of sight was indeed obstructed and he couldn't see it.

So, Lin Qixia turned around and showed him the wound on her head: "Even if you don't believe your sister-in-law, now you see it with your own eyes, so you'll believe it, right?"

"You!" Lin Xiao was about to curse her again when he saw her turn her head away.

A head covered in blood and swollen with a red bump appeared before Lin Xiao, and for a moment he couldn't utter any more curses.

Unexpectedly, Lin Qixia was really seriously injured.

"What exactly happened?" Lin Xiao asked Lin Jiudong, puzzled.

"I..." Lin Jiudong panicked for a moment when faced with his elder brother's imposing expression.

She hesitated for a while, then suddenly had a bright idea and pointed at Lin Qixia, saying, "She's lying! It's true that she was injured, but she fell accidentally, so it has nothing to do with me?"

As she spoke, she lay down beside Lin Xiao's legs, sobbing aggrievedly, "I'm so wronged, big brother! Lin Qixia got into trouble with Zhao Shao's gang of thugs outside and got beaten up, but then she blamed me and made my sister-in-law punish me, waaaaah..."

As she spoke, she cried so bitterly, as if it were real.

Lin Qixia twitched the corners of her mouth, never expecting Lin Jiudong's acting skills to be so superb.

"Is that so?" When Lin Xiao heard Lin Jiudong's words, his gaze turned even colder as he looked at Lin Qixia: "You really are incorrigible!"

Lin Qixia had often fought with other children in the village in the past, so Lin Xiao did not doubt Lin Jiudong's words.

Lin Qixia laughed upon seeing this, "Third sister, you really know how to act. But since you've mentioned those people, should I tell eldest brother why I was beaten by them?"

"What are you talking about! How would I know!"

Upon hearing Lin Qixia's words, Lin Jiudong instinctively retorted, then felt somewhat guilty and avoided his elder brother's scrutinizing gaze.

Turning his head, he gave Lin Qixia a warning look, telling her not to say anything: "It won't do either of us any good to talk about this!"

Lin Qixia scoffed at her warning, "It won't do you any good, will it?"

"What are you talking about?" Lin Xiao didn't understand why the two sisters were standing there exchanging glances, so he asked Lin Qixia directly.

Lin Qixia simply confessed in front of them, "I was beaten by those thugs because Lin Jiudong asked me to hire those people to harm Gu Ciyu."

"At the time, I was confused and believed Lin Jiudong's words, so I went with her to find Zhao Shao and the others with the money. We discussed it and arranged a place to trick Gu Ciyu into going there and tarnish her reputation."

"On the day of the meeting, Lin Jiudong said she was too scared to go and told me to go alone. When I got there, I changed my mind and didn't want to hurt anyone, which is why they beat me up."

She spoke slowly and deliberately, each sentence revealing a wealth of information.

Lin Xiao and He Zhilan were both shocked.

"What? You actually came up with such a despicable method to harm the Gu family's daughter?" He Zhilan took a while to process the information Lin Qixia revealed, then turned to look at Lin Jiudong with a face full of anger.

"I didn't!" Lin Jiudong retorted instinctively.

But then, without saying a word, Lin Qixia pulled out a string of copper coins from her pocket: "This is the money you gave me to give to those thugs."

He Zhilan was now completely convinced, since Lin Qixia usually spent every copper coin she had on her immediately, and she simply couldn't keep any.

It's impossible to have that much money all at once.

Lin Jiudong, on the other hand, has embroidery skills and can earn some pocket money for herself on weekdays.

He Zhilan looked at Lin Jiudong with disappointment: "Dong'er! The Gu family's daughter just came to treat your elder brother's leg injury not long ago and even waived the consultation fee. How could you do such a despicable thing?"

Lin Xiao was trembling with anger and shouted at Lin Jiudong, "You come here and kneel down!"
