Chapter Sixty-Four: Relentlessly Pursuing

Lin Qixia then noticed that compared to the mature and sinister person in her dream, the boy in front of her had a more youthful and innocent look in both his facial features and his overall demeanor.

He is not the person in my dream, at least not yet.

Lin Qixia: "...It's nothing."

She then came to her senses and realized that she had been having a nightmare.

"Is that so?" Huo Yanqing stared at her with a complicated expression.

Even though she said that, he still keenly sensed her fear of him.

Lin Qixia turned her face away from his gaze, cleared her throat, and urged him to leave: "You can go out now."

Faced with her distant attitude, the boy felt a little wronged and didn't know what he had done wrong.

However, he still replied, "Okay," and then turned and silently left the room.

Upon opening the door again, they bumped into He Zhilan and Lin Xiao, a married couple. Lin Xiao was using crutches at the time, but his condition had improved considerably and he no longer needed a wheelchair.

They had heard the noise Lin Qixia made inside the house earlier and knew she was awake, so they came over to check on her because they were worried.

They bumped into Huo Yanqing, who was coming out of the house. They looked at each other, and the atmosphere was awkward for a moment.

Fortunately, Lin Xiao had already told He Zhilan Huo Yanqing's identity. He Zhilan scrutinized him for a moment before greeting him, "Xia'er's senior brother, right? Thank you for saving Xia'er in time this time."

She has now accepted Huo Yanqing's existence.

If it weren't for him, who knows how that heartless girl Gu Ciyu would have treated Xia'er while she was unconscious.

Huo Yanqing was feeling down at the moment, but he still replied, "You're welcome."

After saying that, he lowered his head and walked away quickly.

He Zhilan and Lin Xiao exchanged a glance and murmured, "This kid...did he have a fight with Xia'er?"

"Who knows?" Lin Xiao shrugged. It's normal for young people to throw tantrums occasionally. "He's a good person to be willing to protect our Qi Xia."

“You’re right,” He Zhilan agreed.

As she spoke, He Zhilan knocked on the door: "Xia'er? Are you awake?"

Lin Qixia's voice came from inside the room soon after: "Okay, you can come in."

In fact, Lin Qixia had already heard Huo Yanqing's conversation with her elder brother and sister-in-law while she was inside the house. She only breathed a sigh of relief after Huo Yanqing had completely left.

However, judging from her sister-in-law's reaction, her older brother Lin Xiao must have already told her Huo Yanqing's identity.

It's good this way; now everyone knows about Huo Yanqing's existence.

He Zhilan and Lin Xiao also came into the room to see her.

"Big brother, sister-in-law," Lin Qixia reassured them, "I'm fine now, don't worry."

She must have been too tired before, and then she fainted because she suffered from heatstroke.

I've recovered by now.

He Zhilan and Lin Xiao both breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this.

Lin Xiao: "It's good that you're alright."

He Zhilan said, "Thank goodness you woke up safely, otherwise I would have really settled the score with that girl Gu Ciyu!"

If she hadn't wasted time talking nonsense, her Xia'er might not have been unconscious for so long.

Several hours have passed.

Lin Qixia noticed that the couple in front of her looked strange, so she asked them, "Did something happen while I was unconscious?"

Upon hearing this, Lin Xiao looked at his wife, waiting for her reply.

When Huo Yanqing brought Lin Qixia back, there was chaos and confusion. He Zhilan was so frightened by Huo Yanqing's sudden appearance that she didn't know what to do and had to be comforted by him.

So much so that he didn't even have a chance to ask He Zhilan what had happened.

Faced with their questions, He Zhilan then explained what had happened to them.

When talking about how Gu Ciyu insisted that Li Pei stop her from helping Lin Qixia, He Zhilan's eyes showed a rare hint of anger, and she became quite agitated.

"That girl was deliberately making things difficult for our Xia'er back then!"

Hearing this, Lin Qixia roughly understood.

So, you were unconscious, and Gu Ciyu took the opportunity to say that you might have been infected with the plague, thus preventing others from saving you, right?

"I see." Lin Qixia murmured, then turned to He Zhilan and asked, "What exactly is this plague she mentioned?"

The plague did appear in the original book, but it happened later in the story.

The main purpose is to establish the female lead as a kind-hearted person, allowing her to save people and gain fame.

Now that the plot had been brought up in advance, Lin Qixia was very concerned about this and couldn't help but ask more questions.

He Zhilan recalled the situation at the time and said to her, "Gu Ciyu was vague in her words at the time. She only said that people died from famine and an epidemic broke out in Qishan County, but she didn't mention any specific details."

"I understand," Lin Qixia replied.

Then she smiled and calmly reassured the two people in front of her, "Brother and sister-in-law, don't worry, I'm much better now and I haven't caught the disease."

Lin Xiao and He Zhilan exchanged a glance.

They naturally believed what she said.

"It's good that you're alright." He Zhilan patted Lin Qixia's hand. "Since you're alright, you should get some rest. You've worked hard these past few days."

They watched as Lin Qixia became increasingly busy these days.

Even they might not be able to withstand that level of strain, let alone Lin Qixia, who is already young and so thin and frail.

"You too," Lin Qixia replied, watching them leave.

After the room became completely empty, Lin Qixia lay back on the bed and relaxed completely.

That terrible dream, and the epidemic that Gu Ciyu mentioned, were both reminders of her.

The situation is getting worse as time goes on, but for now, she still has a chance to change things.
