Chapter Twenty: Sunflower Water

"It tastes good," Lin Xiao replied in a deep voice.

It's not just that it's not bad; these buns really do taste great.

He used to buy steamed buns when he was healthy and able to earn money, but they never tasted this good.

This time, the steamed buns were filled with many seasonings that Lin Xiao had never tasted before.

After that, Lin Xiao took another bite and began to enjoy his meal immensely.

My little niece, Lin Yi, was the same. The buns were huge, and Lin Yi held them in both hands, biting into them and babbling, "They're so delicious, Auntie! The buns you bought are so good..."

Lin Qixia was eating mung bean cake at the time. Seeing this, she smiled and ruffled her fluffy head: "Eat more if you like it. If you're not full, Auntie can share this with you."

She had eaten a bowl of noodle soup in town, and after only a few bites of mung bean cake, she felt less hungry.

My sister-in-law put so many eggs in the bowl of wild vegetable porridge she served, it must have tasted much better, and she didn't want to waste it.

After eating this bowl of vegetable porridge, and then half a steamed bun, I'll be pretty full.

Lin Qixia knew her own appetite quite well.

"How can that be?" Lin Xiao, the eldest brother, suddenly spoke up.

Looking at her, his face was full of disapproval of her words, "Don't spoil your niece, one is enough for her."

Lin Qixia retorted, "How can this be considered spoiling them? Children should eat more."

However, Lin Xiao is strict with his younger sister, and even stricter with his own daughter.

He Zhilan has a gentle personality, and she always follows her husband's lead when it comes to important matters like educating their children.

This is one of the reasons why Lin Yi's personality has become so timid.

Seeing this, Lin Qixia glanced at Lin Yi with mixed feelings. If only there was someone in the Lin family who usually favored Lin Yi a little more and unconditionally stood by Lin Yi's side to protect her.

She wouldn't have grown up like this.

"Good boy/girl~"

After thinking for a moment, Lin Qixia said to Lin Yi, "Our family's life will get better and better in the future. Lin Yi will never lack food. We can eat whatever we want!"

Lin Yi blinked and nodded gratefully, "Mmm!"

Her mouth was stuffed full, and she didn't care about anything else at the moment, eating very happily.

Seeing this, Lin Qixia smiled and picked up a steamed bun to eat as well.

I left half for Lin Yi, and to my surprise, she actually finished it all.

"Thank you, Auntie, for buying me steamed buns!" After finishing her meal, she suddenly came over and hugged Lin Qixia's leg.

Lin Qixia froze for a moment, caught off guard by her sudden intimacy.

She realized what she meant after a moment, and said with a mix of amusement and exasperation, "You silly child, I'm really worried that one day a stranger will buy you food and you'll just run off with them."

After all, the original owner treated her so badly before, but unexpectedly, after only giving her food a few times, Lin Yi's attitude towards her changed drastically.

Lin Yi shook her head upon hearing this: "No, it's because you're my aunt, and Yi'er likes her aunt!"

The child's words were unclear, but his emotions were genuine.

Lin Qixia felt a warmth in her heart and patted her on the shoulder: "Auntie knows."

Lin Xiao and He Zhilan exchanged a glance upon seeing this scene, both surprised by Xiao Linyi's transformation.

Children are the most likely to reveal their true feelings and the least likely to lie. It seems that Lin Qixia has indeed matured and become a better person.

"Xia'er, go and rest after you've finished eating. I'll clean up the dishes," He Zhilan said to Lin Qixia as she cleaned up the dishes.

"Mm," Lin Qixia replied without being polite.

She's very tired today and can't take it anymore.

So after dinner, she said goodbye to her sister-in-law and the others, fetched some water to wash up in her room, and then rested.

"It hurts so much..."

In the middle of the night, Lin Qixia suddenly cried out in pain.

The next second, a gust of wind blew past the bed, and a dark figure was already standing in front of Lin Qixia.

"What's wrong?" the boy asked.

Lin Qixia clutched her stomach, struggled to sit up, lit the candle, and met the boy's dark, questioning eyes in silence.

Seeing that she didn't speak and her face was pale, Huo Yanqing frowned and asked, "Are you... sick?"

"I'm fine! Get out!" Lin Qixia's face flushed from his stare, and she yelled.

The boy was puzzled by her reaction, but since she had already said that, he couldn't linger any longer.

"Call me if you need anything," Huo Yanqing said, turning to leave.

After taking a few steps, he stopped and turned back, squatted down in front of Lin Qixia, took her hand, and took out a wooden whistle from his pocket and placed it in her palm.

Lin Qixia: "?"

She looked down at the whistle; it was clearly made by him himself, somewhat rough, but you could tell he had tried his best.

Lin Qixia looked at the other person with a puzzled expression.

Huo Yanqing explained, "You blew your whistle... I heard it... and came to save you..."

"Oh," Lin Qixia replied in a muffled voice, slightly surprised.

This kid is actually that worried about me?

She gave a wry smile, and after thinking for a moment, she simply asked him frankly, "If I have menstrual cramps, can you help me too?"

Huo Yanqing tilted his head, puzzled. "Hmm?"

"Kuishui, that thing girls get every month..." Lin Qixia couldn't help but lean closer and whisper when she saw how "naive" he was, intentionally teasing him.

Huo Yanqing then realized what was happening, and her originally jade-colored face instantly flushed slightly: "You... don't say anymore..."

He hurriedly got up and staggered out of the room.

Lin Qixia chuckled, then gasped in pain from her stomach.

"System, do you still have painkillers?" she asked.

[Replying to the host, you used it all on Huo Yanqing last time, it's all gone.]
