Chapter 14 Is he a county magistrate?

The rebuke was incredibly intimidating. The two men, whom Jiang Hai called "Big Melon" and "Iron Head," had their outstretched hands frozen in mid-air. They looked at each other, then stood there with their heads drooping.

The other villagers from Jiangjia Village stared in shock at the slightly overweight man in front of them.

The situation in Lujia Village was no better. Jiang Ling was secretly taken aback, but the village chief reacted quickly, kneeling down with his knees trembling like a leaf.

Upon seeing the village chief kneel down, everyone suddenly realized what was happening, and they all knelt down in a panic.

Jiang Ling quickly pulled Jiang Yaojie down to kneel down as well.

The noisy atmosphere suddenly became quiet.

"Bullshit! If you're a county magistrate, then I'm the prefectural governor! Don't try to fool me! The magistrate of Pingxi County is over sixty years old, and you look no more than thirty. As for the magistrate of Anquan County, he's at least fifty. Tell me which county magistrate you are, and stop trying to scare me!" Jiang Hai, who was being held down, didn't believe the slightly fat man's words and continued to speak filthyly while struggling.

"Say one more word, and believe me, I'll cut your tongue out!" The man holding Jiang Hai drew his sword with a clang.

"The magistrate of Pingxi County retired to his hometown half a month ago, and I will now take over his position! Men! Take these troublemakers away!" The slightly fat man waved his hand, and several constables in official robes immediately appeared behind him. They quickly took all the people from Jiangjia Village out of the mountains.

"I don't accept this! Since you say we're causing trouble, do you have any evidence? Besides, how could we, from just one village, possibly cause trouble? You're clearly biased towards her! Are you suggesting I'm right, that this little wench is your lover?" Although the slightly overweight man had already revealed his identity, Jiang Hai's words were still vulgar.

"How dare you!"

"How dare you!" The thin man and the man holding Jiang Hai down both shouted at Jiang Hai.

"This humble woman is willing to go to the government office with them and be interrogated by Your Honor!" Jiang Ling, who had been silent, quickly raised her head and looked at the county magistrate in front of her calmly.

"No!" Before the others could react, Jiang Yaojie grabbed Jiang Ling's hand and shook his head, saying.

"Yaojie, don't worry, I'll be fine!" Jiang Ling comforted him softly.

"Oh? Sister-in-law, you should think carefully about the consequences of what you just said!" The magistrate was stunned when he heard Jiang Ling's words, and he stroked his chin as he looked at Jiang Ling and said.

"I understand perfectly well. I'll say it again: I'm willing to go to the magistrate's office with them and be interrogated by you, Your Honor! But I have one request..." Jiang Ling didn't continue speaking. Instead, she looked at the magistrate with a resolute expression.

"How dare you..." The thin man frowned unhappily, wanting to reprimand Jiang Ling, but the county magistrate waved his hand and stopped him again.

"Speak your mind. As long as your request is reasonable, I will naturally grant it!" The magistrate looked at Jiang Ling with a complicated expression.

Jiang Ling nodded, her gaze suddenly turning cold. She stretched out her arm and pointed at Lu Youren in the crowd, saying resolutely, "Take this person, and the village chief, away as well!"

"Jiang, how could you be so vicious? We're just getting a divorce! Why are you dragging me down with you? You poisonous woman!" Startled by Jiang Ling's finger pointing at him, Lu Youren glared at Jiang Ling guiltily and started cursing!

Jiang Ling ignored Lu Youren's insults and continued with a firm expression, "Take this person and the village chief with you as well!" With that, Jiang Ling kowtowed heavily to the county magistrate.

"You! You! You poisonous woman! You jinx! You shameless wretch who will have no offspring!" Lu Youren was completely panicked at this point. He even disregarded the presence of the county magistrate and hurriedly stood up from the crowd, running towards Jiang Ling as if he wanted to give her a good beating.

"Lu Youren, kneel down! Don't embarrass me here!" the village chief shouted angrily, glaring at him.

Seeing Jiang Ling's resolute attitude, the magistrate eventually took Jiang Ling and the other two away.

This was the first time the village chief had ever seen the county magistrate, and he was terrified. He was pale, hunched over, head bowed, and trembling as he cautiously followed behind the magistrate.

Pingxi County is not very close to Lujia Village. It would take at least an hour and a half to walk there. Fortunately, Jiang Ling and the others got up early today, so even if they walked there, it wouldn't be too hot. However, it was tough on Jiang Ling, as she had never walked such a long distance in her life.

When Jiang Ling arrived at the county government office in Pingxi County, she felt her legs were aching terribly. Before she could even catch her breath, the majestic sound of court proceedings echoed all around her.

Jiang Ling looked up and saw that the county magistrate, who had previously been dressed in coarse linen clothes, had changed into official robes and was sitting upright in the hall. A thin man stood beside him with pen and ink, and judging from his appearance, he was probably the county magistrate's secretary.

The magistrate slammed his gavel heavily on the table with a loud "bang," which was very intimidating.

Just moments ago, Jiang Hai was arrogant and domineering, but now he was ashen-faced and trembling as he knelt on the ground. The other people from Jiangjia Village didn't look too good either.

"Jiang Hai, I ask you, was it the woman in front of you who told you that your wife found food in the mountains last night at midnight?" The magistrate stared intently at Jiang Hai below the court and spoke slowly.

Jiang Hai shuddered and looked in the direction of Lu Youren.

"Jiang Hai! I'm asking you a question!" The magistrate said, slamming his gavel again when Jiang Hai didn't answer.

"I... Your... Your Excellency... I know I was wrong! I shouldn't have lied, nor should I have insulted you!" Jiang Hai's mental defenses completely collapsed. He was trembling violently, and tears and snot were mixed on his face, making him look extremely disheveled.
