Jiang Ling took a comb from the room and gently combed Jiang Yaojie's hair. Countless lice appeared on the comb, and Jiang Ling felt a chill run down her spine when she looked at them.
While no one was paying attention, Jiang Ling bought a bag of shampoo from the mall, took a deep breath, and placed her palm on her hair, which was already wet with hot water.
A rich layer of foam soon appeared on Jiang Yaojie's hair. Jiang Yaojie felt a cool and comfortable sensation on his scalp. He looked down and asked, "Mom, what is this?"
"This... shampoo, I bought it in Yecheng a while ago!" Jiang Ling answered vaguely.
Jiang Yaojie felt that his scalp felt much lighter and his hair felt much lighter.
Jiang Ling splashed the water on the ground, then took a towel and carefully dried Jiang Yaojie's hair. She then helped him re-tie his hairband and said to Jiang Yaojie, "Yaojie, you're getting married soon, how can you still be so unhygienic!"
"Mom, I...I understand..." Jiang Yaojie replied somewhat embarrassedly.
Jiang Ling looked at the lingering foam on the ground and then at Jiang Yaojie's hair, asking, "Yaojie, what did you guys use to wash your hair before?"
“Wood ash and soapberry, but I always feel itchy and uncomfortable after washing!” Jiang Yaojie said with a frown.
Jiang Ling nodded after listening, and a new invention gradually became clear in her mind.
She went back to her room alone and bought a book on ancient shampoo making from the mall. She then carefully read through it for a long time and found that making ancient shampoo was not as difficult as Jiang Ling had thought.
Jiang Ling carefully hid the book and headed towards the village chief's house.
"Oh, Jiang, you're here? Come in, come in!" At this moment, Qin, the village chief's wife, was sitting in the courtyard with Gou Sheng, helping him learn to read and write. When she saw Jiang Ling come in, she greeted her warmly.
"Grandma Qin, is the village chief home?" Jiang Ling asked.
"You're looking for him? Wait! I'll call someone for you right away!" Granny Qin stood up and walked into the house.
Soon the village chief came out with his pipe. He looked at Jiang Ling with some curiosity and asked, "Jiang, what's wrong?"
"Village chief, what do you usually use to wash your hair?" Jiang Ling asked, looking at the village chief's greasy hair.
"This..." The village chief scratched his head, smelled it, thought for a moment, and then continued, "It's just soapberry and wood ash. Jiang, do you have some new invention?"
The village chief has come to realize that whenever Jiang Ling comes to him, it's usually not a bad thing.
Jiang Ling nodded and asked, "Village chief, do you know where there are soapberry trees?"
"Soapberry? We have it all over the mountains behind us! Do you want some? Come on, I'll take you to see it!" The village chief said, picking up his pipe and pushing open the door to walk outside.
Jiang Ling quickly followed behind, and the two walked to the back one after the other. The village chief pointed to a large deciduous tree in front of them and said, "This is the soapberry tree!"
Jiang Ling quickly looked in the direction the village chief was pointing, and saw a plant that looked a bit like Sichuan peppercorns in front of her.
Jiang Ling quickly picked some soapberries, thanked the village chief, and ran all the way home.
Seeing the soapberries in Jiang Ling's hand, Jiang Yaojie asked curiously, "Mom, why are you picking these soapberries?"
Jiang Ling smiled mysteriously and said to Jiang Yaojie, "It's for washing your hair! Once Mom figures it out, you can try it! Your hair will definitely stop itching, and you won't get lice anymore!"
"Really...really?" Jiang Yaojie stared wide-eyed in surprise.
Jiang Ling nodded and said to Jiang Yaojie, "When has your mother ever lied to you? Come on, let's go up the mountain!"
As she spoke, Jiang Ling stuffed the basket into Jiang Yaojie's arms and led him toward the back mountain.
Throughout the journey, the system notifications in Jiang Ling's mind kept ringing. Listening to the notifications, Jiang Ling couldn't help but sigh at how many messy things there were in the back mountain.
But Jiang Ling had no time to pay attention to the prompts in her mind at this moment, and continued to search for soapberry pods, cypress leaves, and mint.
Before long, these things filled Jiang Yaojie's basket, and Jiang Ling, with a bountiful harvest, led Jiang Yaojie back home.
Jiang Ling first removed the seeds from the soapberry pods and soapberries, then soaked everything except the mint in water overnight.
The next morning, the fire was lit and the contents were started to simmer. After about twenty minutes, Jiang Ling took the pot outside, poured in the mint, and then waited for the temperature to drop.
After the shampoo cooled down, Jiang Ling placed a gauze over the prepared bamboo tube, poured in the shampoo, and said to Jiang Yaojie, who was eager to try it, "Come on, Yaojie, you give it a try."
Jiang Yaojie nodded and opened the headband. After wetting his hair, he carefully poured the water from the bamboo tube into his hand, then applied it to his hair. After scrubbing it carefully for a while, Jiang Ling noticed that tiny bubbles had appeared on Jiang Yaojie's hair.
Looking at the foam in his hair, Jiang Ling felt that the shampoo project was a success. Sure enough, after Jiang Yaojie finished washing his hair, he smiled and said to Jiang Ling, "Mom, I feel so much refreshed, and this smells just like the mint water we sell in the summer!"
Upon hearing Jiang Yaojie's words, Jiang Suihe and Jiang Zhishan also curiously ran over, both of them looking at the bamboo tube in Jiang Ling's hand with eager expressions.
Jiang Ling smiled and gently removed the hairpin from Jiang Suihe's head. She then carefully washed Jiang Suihe's hair, and the homemade shampoo was indeed much more effective at cleaning than before.
After washing Jiang Suihe's hair, Jiang Ling turned her gaze to Jiang Zhishan and said with a smile, "How about it, do you want to try it?"
Jiang Zhishan shook her head shyly, wanting to refuse, but Jiang Ling untied Jiang Zhishan's hairband and said, "Come on, didn't your older sister wash your hair before?"
After Jiang Ling finished washing Jiang Zhishan's hair, she wanted to wash her own hair too. Before she could even take her hair out, the village chief came in carrying a piece of paper. On it were written the names of five men, one of whom Jiang Ling recognized very well—Lu Yong.
“These five people are all hardworking and reliable. I think you should consider them!” the village chief said.
Jiang Ling glanced at the list of people and nodded in satisfaction. Just then, the village chief suddenly sniffed and asked, "Jiang, why does your house smell like mint? Did you make mint water again?"
Jiang Ling pointed to the bamboo tube on the table and whispered to the village chief, "This is my newly developed shampoo. Its cleaning power is better than ordinary soapberry and wood ash. The scent is just from adding some mint."
"What? Shampoo? Jiang, what new gadgets are you making now?" The village chief asked Jiang Ling, puzzled.
Jiang Ling didn't speak, but pointed to the bamboo tube on the table and said to the village chief, "Village chief, try this when you get back. Just wet your hair, pour some water from the bamboo tube onto your head, rub it gently, and then wash it off!"
