Chapter 19 Is this even possible?

"Mother, don't you remember the White-Haired Goddess?" In the dim moonlight, Jiang Ling vaguely sensed that Jiang Yaojie was looking at her with a frown.

Jiang Ling was completely unfamiliar with the term "White-Haired Goddess"; she had only heard the village chief mention it once before.

She searched through all of the original owner's memories but couldn't find a single piece of information about the "White-Haired Empress".

To avoid arousing Jiang Yaojie's suspicion, Jiang Ling pretended to be a little confused and said, "Oh, Mother is getting old, and her memory isn't good anymore. Yaojie, tell me quickly, what is this white-haired lady?"

Jiang Yaojie was still just a child, and after Jiang Ling said that, he didn't ask any further questions. He rolled his eyes and thought for a moment before saying, "I heard Uncle Village Chief say that there is a white-haired goddess living in these mountains. If you sincerely make offerings to her every year, Lu Family Village will be safe and sound year after year..."

When Jiang Ling heard this, she almost burst out laughing. She never believed in ghosts or gods, and besides, the way Jiang Yaojie described it sounded like the prototype of the modern drama "The White-Haired Girl".

"It's said that someone offended the White-Haired Goddess, who punished Lu Family Village, which is why Lu Family Village has suffered so many disasters in the past two years!" Jiang Yaojie added, scratching his head.

"What kind of nonsense is this! It's clearly a natural disaster, how did it become a matter of ghosts and gods?" Jiang Ling was speechless after hearing this, but she still patiently continued to ask, "Yaojie, do you know who offended the White-Haired Goddess?"

Jiang Yaojie looked at Jiang Ling with a hesitant expression, and after a long while whispered, "It was...it was...Father Lu who did it!"

Jiang Yaojie spoke vaguely, but Jiang Ling heard him perfectly. At this moment, Jiang Ling was completely speechless. In her previous life, was the original owner of this body a grave robber or had her bones ground to dust? How could she have married such a scumbag in this life?

Suppressing her anger, Jiang Ling continued, "Yaojie, what exactly happened? I... I can't quite remember. Can you tell me in detail?"

Jiang Yaojie glanced at Jiang Ling. Although he felt strange, he still said, "The year before last, during the autumn harvest, my father got drunk and somehow went to the White-Haired Goddess Temple. First, he smashed the bowls and plates, then he smashed the offering fruits and vegetables. Finally, according to Uncle Village Chief, he even urinated there."

"So... that's why the village chief thinks that the White-Haired Goddess has punished Lu Family Village, causing Lu Family Village to have almost no harvest for two consecutive years."

Upon hearing this, the word "absurd" only appeared in Jiang Ling's mind. She pursed her lips and said nothing more. However, Jiang Yaojie, who was standing next to her, glanced at Jiang Ling and said, "Mother, we must never go to the White-Haired Goddess Temple again. If we really anger the White-Haired Goddess, we will be driven away by the Lu family!"

Jiang Ling knew that Jiang Yaojie was concerned about her, so she nodded and said softly, "Okay, I understand! I won't go there again!"

Although Jiang Ling said that, she still planned to go again tomorrow night, but she would have to wait until all three of her children were asleep.

Having just experienced such a thrilling scene, Jiang Ling was exhausted both physically and mentally when she returned home. She fell asleep shortly after lying down on the bed.

That night, Jiang Ling had a dream in which a woman with white hair was staring at her with a mournful expression and even warning her not to meddle in other people's business.

"Mother...Mother, wake up! The village chief said we need to go to the Lu family ancestral hall!" Jiang Ling was about to retort when she heard a muffled voice in her ear, followed by a push on her shoulder.

Jiang Ling rubbed her sleepy eyes, and as Jiang Yaojie's face gradually came into focus, she yawned widely and asked him, "Yaojie, what's wrong?"

"The village chief said that everyone in the family except pregnant women and children under ten years old should gather at the Lu family ancestral hall," Jiang Yaojie said slowly from the side.

Jiang Ling jumped out of bed, washed up, gave a few instructions to the sleepy Jiang Suihe and Jiang Wenxi, and hurriedly led Jiang Yaojie toward the Lu family ancestral hall.

When Jiang Ling and Jiang Yaojie arrived at the Lu family ancestral hall, it was already packed with people. When they saw Jiang Ling, they all automatically stepped aside to make way for her. Jiang Ling looked along the path and saw the village chief, Old Lady Lu, and the pale-faced Lu Youren standing at the very back of the ancestral hall.

When Old Lady Lu saw Jiang Ling, her eyes widened in fury, and she looked as if she wanted to devour Jiang Ling alive.

"Pah! Shameless slut!" Old Mrs. Lu spat at Jiang Ling and cursed angrily.

Jiang Ling wasn't annoyed. She straightened her back, took Jiang Yaojie's hand, and walked to the village chief's side.

Seeing that Jiang Ling didn't react, Old Lady Lu's anger intensified. She slammed her cane on the ground and continued cursing, "You jinx! You'll have no descendants! Our Lu family has had the worst luck in eight lifetimes to marry you!"

Jiang Ling ignored the shrewish old woman, Lu, and looked at the village chief calmly, saying, "Village chief, what brings us to the Lu family ancestral hall? If it's just to have this old rascal insult me, then I'm sorry, I'll have to go back now! My son and two daughters haven't eaten yet!"

As Jiang Ling turned to leave, the Lu family members present were half heartbroken and half shocked after hearing her words. They were heartbroken because this old woman was really unreasonable. Her son had made such a big mistake, yet she could blame others. They were shocked because they had never heard of any daughter-in-law in Lu Family Village daring to argue with her mother-in-law like that, not even those who had divorced or been separated from their mothers.

"You! You! You jinx! Who are you calling an old scoundrel?" Old Mrs. Lu was so angry that she trembled all over after hearing Jiang Ling's words. If there weren't so many people around, she would have already raised her cane and hit this wretched person in front of her hard.

"Whoever is cursing the most, that's who I'm talking about. It's really eye-opening that someone would actually come to criticize me." Jiang Ling said, yawning as she prepared to leave.
