Chapter 21 Something Happened 2

"Who are you calling a little bastard! Say it again and see what happens!" Zhao Erleng's wife grabbed Zhao Dabao and shielded him behind her, scolding Old Lady Lu.

"Waaah...Grandma Lu is so fierce! Waaah...She really pushed Wenxi!" Zhao Dabao hid behind his mother, covering his face with his hands and crying.

"Tsk, Zhao Dabao is only five years old. How could a five-year-old child lie?"

"That old woman Lu was unreasonable even when she was young! It seems that Zhao Dabao is definitely right."

"Tsk, it's really pitiful that Jiang Shi was their daughter-in-law for several years."

The whispers among the crowd grew louder, and even the usually unruly Old Lady Lu couldn't bring herself to speak in the face of the gossip.

Jiang Ling glared fiercely at Old Lady Lu in the crowd. If she hadn't been stopped, she would have rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a cleaver, and hacked the old bastard in front of her to death!

"Hmm...it's nothing serious. It's just a superficial wound on his forehead. He probably fainted from shock and fright. This dose of medicine from Jiang's is 50 copper coins. He needs to take it three times a day for five days. If you agree, I'll write the prescription and have Yaojie come back with me to get the medicine!" Doctor Zhu stroked his beard and said.

“No problem, Yaojie, you go with Doctor Zhu. By the way, Doctor Zhu, could you please prescribe some hemostatic and disinfectant medicine? My two daughters can’t have scars!” Jiang Ling quickly added.

"That's no problem, but we'll need to add another 100 copper coins!" Doctor Zhu said after a moment's hesitation.

"Doctor Zhu, you're welcome to prescribe the medicine! Yaojie, you go with Doctor Zhu to get the medicine!" Jiang Ling said.

The people gathered around the Jiang family gasped when they heard what Doctor Zhu said. One dose of medicine cost 50 copper coins, and five days' worth would require at least 750 copper coins, plus an additional 100 copper coins for hemostasis and anti-inflammation. All in all, it would cost nearly one tael of silver.

The crowd gathered around and started talking amongst themselves.

After hearing from Doctor Zhu that Jiang Wenxi was alright, Jiang Ling breathed a sigh of relief. After Doctor Zhu and Jiang Yaojie left, Jiang Ling walked towards the direction of Old Lady Lu.

Even though Old Lady Lu was a scoundrel, she was intimidated by Jiang Ling's almost insane behavior just now.

She did feel a little regretful at this moment, but she didn't regret scolding Jiang Ling's two daughters or even pushing Jiang Wenxi. Instead, she regretted that her actions had given others leverage over her.

"What...what are you going to do!" Old Mrs. Lu asked warily, taking a step back as she looked at Jiang Ling, whose eyes were bloodshot and whose expression was ferocious.

"Village Chief, did you hear what Zhao Dabao said just now?" Jiang Ling didn't cry, make a scene, or attack Old Lady Lu as everyone expected. She simply asked the village chief calmly.

The village chief was slightly taken aback by Jiang Ling's unusual expression, but quickly nodded and said, "Zhao Dabao is only five years old this year. A five-year-old child would never lie."

"Alright, village chief, since you think what Zhao Dabao said is true, then it proves that she did indeed hurt my youngest daughter, right?" Jiang Ling continued to ask.

The village chief had no idea what Jiang Ling was up to, and with everyone present, he couldn't just lie through his teeth. So he nodded and said, "Yes...yes...that's right."

“Alright, I suppose you, as the village head, won’t go back on your word…” At this point, Jiang Ling’s eyes turned cold, and she grabbed Old Lady Lu’s wrist, saying each word slowly and deliberately, “Come with me, let’s go to the government office and discuss this matter!”

Upon hearing this, Old Lady Lu immediately collapsed to the ground, trembling all over and repeatedly muttering, "No! No! I won't go!"

"This is not up to you! You have to come with me!" Jiang Ling's face was already covered with frost. She grabbed Old Lady Lu's arm tightly, and even looked like she wanted to drag her out.

On the Lu family's side, the three Lu brothers had just dropped off their eldest brother when they heard from the neighbors that their mother had gotten into trouble again, and it sounded like this trouble was quite serious.

The three of them were both angry and anxious. They quickly put their eldest brother on the bed and then ran towards the Jiang family's house without stopping.

The pregnant widow Wang glared at Lu Youren, who was lying on the bed groaning, and muttered under her breath, "What a useless piece of trash! Serves you right, why don't I beat you to death!"

Lu Youren, who had been beaten almost to the point of unconsciousness, felt a burning pain all over his body and his throat was parched. He vaguely sensed someone nearby and, with all his might, managed to utter, "Water...water..."

Widow Wang became even angrier upon hearing Lu Youren's voice. With a look of disgust, she pushed Lu Youren's hand away, spat, and cursed, "Water?! I won't even give you urine to drink!"

The three people who ran to Jiang's house saw Jiang dragging her mother away angrily as she pushed through the crowd, while her mother continued to shout and throw a tantrum.

The three brothers looked at each other, and finally, Lu Youren, who was the most popular, slowly spoke up: "Jiang, could... could you release my mother first?"

Jiang Ling was furious upon hearing this. Her daughter was lying unconscious in bed, and now someone was shamelessly pleading for mercy for this old scoundrel. She suddenly looked up and glared coldly at Lu Youli, saying, "Lu Youli, I released your mother, but who released my daughter? My daughter is only four years old! She's lying unconscious in bed! You make it sound so easy!"

Knowing he was in the wrong, Lu Youli blushed and forced himself to continue pleading, "Madam Jiang, look how old my mother is. If you keep dragging this on, something might happen to her!"

"Heh!" Jiang Ling sneered, turning to look at Jiang Suihe who was clutching her arm. She pointed at Jiang Suihe with her other finger and said sternly, "You're worried something will happen to me because I'm dragging your mother along? Suihe is your own niece. She's only nine years old and still a girl. Look at the state of her arm now!"
