Chapter 215 Snow Blindness 1

Jiang Ling's words stunned everyone present, especially the more sentimental refugees, whose eyes welled up with tears.

"Take care of yourself first! We're not cold. Doctor Zhu said you injured your head, and this could be a big or small matter!" Hu Yue'er said, her eyes red, as she held Jiang Ling's hand.

"No, no." Jiang Ling originally wanted to sit up and talk, but as soon as she moved, she felt dizzy again. If she hadn't already emptied her stomach, she probably would have vomited again.

In the end, Jiang Ling could only lie on the bed and look at the village chief, saying, "Village chief, I'm entrusting this matter to you. You must get it done as soon as possible!"

Seeing Jiang Ling's expression, the village chief could only nod helplessly and agree for the time being.

Those around Jiang Ling felt heartbroken seeing her weak state, and some even offered to take care of her during this time.

The village chief was worried that too many people would prevent Jiang Ling from getting a good rest, so he simply refused most of them, leaving only Hu Yue'er and Er Leng's wife.

A week passed in the blink of an eye, and Jiang Ling's health improved significantly; her vomiting and dizziness had also lessened considerably.

The snow completely stopped last night, and today is a sunny and beautiful day.

Jiang Ling decided to try getting out of bed and walking around, since she had been lying in bed for a week and her back and waist were aching terribly.

Just as she put on her shoes, Hu Yue'er came in from inside carrying the medicine. Seeing Jiang Ling get up from the bed, she quickly put the medicine aside and helped Jiang Ling up, saying, "Sister Jiang, why are you up? Lie down quickly!"

Jiang Ling shook her head and looked at Hu Yue'er, who was wearing a cotton-padded coat, and said, "It's alright. I've been lying down for a week, it's time to move around! How is it, is the cotton-padded coat still warm?"

When Hu Yue'er heard Jiang Ling mention "cotton-padded clothes," her eyes reddened again. She quickly wiped her eyes and said to Jiang Ling, "Sister Jiang, thank you so much! You're a true saint! Not only did you take us in, but..."

Jiang Ling didn't want to listen to Hu Yue'er's "long-winded speech," so she smiled and waved her hand to interrupt, saying, "What's wrong with that? I'm good to you all, so you should work hard and let me earn more money, isn't that good?"

Hu Yue'er burst out laughing at Jiang Ling's words. She turned around, picked up the bowl of medicine, and said, "Drink it. It's freshly brewed!"

Jiang Ling clicked her tongue at the bitter-smelling Chinese medicine. She had always been most afraid of bitter things. In modern times, she couldn't even drink slightly strong tea.

Hu Yue'er seemed to understand Jiang Ling's thoughts. She smiled and said to Jiang Ling, "Sister Jiang, drink this medicine. I have something for you!"

Jiang Ling was skeptical, but seeing that Hu Yue'er wasn't speaking, she could only frown, pinch her nose, close her eyes, and forcefully force down the dark medicine.

The bitter taste immediately filled Jiang Ling's mouth, and her facial features contorted in pain. She quickly put down the medicine bowl, grabbed the water glass on the table, and frantically rinsed her mouth.

It took Jiang Ling quite a while to feel the bitter taste in her mouth completely dissipate.

"Sister Jiang, here you go!" Hu Yue'er placed a small packet of white sugar in front of Jiang Ling.

Jiang Ling looked at the white sugar in front of her with some surprise. Sugar was a rare commodity in this era. Recently, the only exit from the village entrance was blocked by an avalanche, so they couldn't get out at all.

Thinking of this, Jiang Ling quickly asked, "Yue'er, where did you get this candy?"

Hu Yue'er looked embarrassed and said to Jiang Ling, "Sister Jiang, please don't mind. This... this is what we asked for from house to house! These past few days, I've noticed that you look particularly uncomfortable whenever you take your medicine, so I was thinking that something sweet might help. But as you know, the avalanche has blocked the road out of the village, and we don't have any money right now, so we went door to door hoping to get lucky. But when they heard it was for you, no one refused. Please don't be offended, Sister!"

Hearing Hu Yue'er's words, Jiang Ling was slightly surprised, but she didn't show it. She smiled and thanked Hu Yue'er before getting dressed and walking out the door.

Worried that Jiang Ling's body couldn't withstand the cold, Hu Yue'er quickly followed and said, "Sister Jiang, you've just recovered from a serious illness, so you shouldn't go out yet. Although it's not snowing outside, it's still very cold! Tell me what you need and I'll help you!"

Jiang Ling gently patted Hu Yue'er's shoulder and said, "I'm fine now, don't worry. But Yue'er, your belly is so big now, it's cold and the roads are slippery, so be careful! It's easy to fall and get hurt. Just stay at home, I'm going to the village chief's house and I'll be right back!"

Hu Yue'er couldn't persuade Jiang Ling otherwise, so she could only give Jiang Ling some more instructions before watching her leave with a worried expression.

After the heavy snow, the sky was azure, and everything around was white, shimmering with a continuous silver light. Jiang Ling stared at the snow in a daze, but soon a bad thought popped into her mind.

She quickly closed her eyes, shook her head vigorously, and hurried towards the village chief's house.

Just then, the village chief finished what he was doing and was about to go out to visit Jiang Ling when he saw Jiang Ling not far away as soon as he opened the door.

The village chief hurried over to greet him and asked, "Why did you come out? Are you completely recovered?"

Jiang Ling nodded and said to the village chief, "Village chief, I heard that the road at the entrance of the village is still blocked by snow?"

"Yes, it's true. Since you came back, the snow has been falling non-stop until today. Many of the houses of the refugees have collapsed, the road to the town has been blocked, and every household is almost out of food! If this continues, I don't know what to do." The village chief sighed heavily when he heard Jiang Ling mention this.
