“If Lady Jiang is willing, the Prefect is willing, and His Majesty is willing, I, your humble servant, can also hand over this official hat to Lady Jiang! Your Highness, I hope you will reconsider!” Although Magistrate Duan’s words were plain, there was a hint of stubbornness in his tone.
Looking at the county magistrate Duan in front of him, Su Shunhe naturally knew that this guy had some feelings for Jiang Ling, otherwise why would he be willing to give up his official post to protect this woman?
It seems this woman is truly different. Thinking of this, an incredibly wicked idea popped into Su Shunhe's head: perhaps this would be even more interesting than simply strangling Jiang Ling.
Thinking of this, Su Shunhe slowly loosened his grip on Jiang Ling's neck.
A large amount of air rushed into Jiang Ling's nasal cavity, and her legs went weak, causing her to collapse to the ground, coughing violently and panting heavily.
She glared at Su Shunhe with resentment. If her eyes could shoot flying knives, Su Shunhe would probably have been torn to pieces by Jiang Ling by now.
"Are you alright?" Magistrate Duan, disregarding Su Shunhe's presence, rushed to Jiang Ling's side and asked with concern.
Seeing all this, Su Shunhe became even more certain of his thoughts. He looked at the two people in front of him, laughed heartily, and turned to leave.
Jiang Ling patted her chest and glared angrily at Su Shunhe as he left. Magistrate Duan looked at Jiang Ling with concern and asked, "Are you... are you alright?"
She shook her head, but her gaze inadvertently met that of Magistrate Duan, and for a moment Jiang Ling's heart pounded like a deer.
"No...nothing! By the way, Brother Duan, what brings you here?" Jiang Ling hurriedly shook her head to change the subject.
"Oh, I heard you've been promoted again? I was busy popularizing fertilizer knowledge the other day, so I didn't have time to come and congratulate you. I just finished today and rushed over. I didn't expect to see this scene. It seems the rumors are true!" Magistrate Duan explained.
Jiang Ling caught the key words in Magistrate Duan's words and quickly asked, "Rumors? What rumors?"
Magistrate Duan gently covered his mouth, realizing he had misspoke. Faced with Jiang Ling's questioning, he had no choice but to tell her everything.
"Legend has it that the Third Prince is tyrannical, cruel, and ruthless, and it seems that he really is!" Magistrate Duan murmured, his gaze fixed on Jiang Ling's neck, which was red from being choked.
Jiang Ling sighed helplessly, wondering what kind of monsters she had encountered. One Lu Youren was gone, and then Luo Cheng appeared. After Luo Cheng left, Su Shunhe jumped out. Thinking of this, Jiang Ling helplessly rubbed her aching temples.
"Why don't we go see Doctor Zhu? Your neck is so red it's frightening!" Magistrate Duan said after finally helping Jiang Ling up.
Jiang Ling didn't have a mirror at the moment, but she could tell from the panicked look in Magistrate Duan's eyes that he wasn't exaggerating.
She gently reached out and touched the spot where Su Shunhe had pinched her earlier, and a sharp pain made her frown.
"Damn Su Shunhe, next time you come, I'm going to buy you an electric shock ring from the mall so you can really experience what it's like to be electrocuted!" Jiang Ling thought angrily to herself.
Seeing Jiang Ling's face turn pale and then red, Magistrate Duan thought that what had just happened had frightened her into a daze.
"Sister, sister, are you alright!" Magistrate Duan disregarded all moral principles and the taboo against men and women touching each other. He grabbed Jiang Ling's shoulders and shook her, asking her with concern.
Jiang Ling shook her head repeatedly, "Big brother, stop shaking me, I'm going to throw up!"
Magistrate Duan withdrew his hand as if he had been electrocuted, and stood there somewhat bewildered.
Jiang Ling gently touched her neck again, and the stinging pain returned, indicating that her neck injury was quite serious.
She sighed helplessly, recalling Su Shunhe's excessive behavior towards her earlier. She was determined not to give Nianci to him no matter how much pressure he exerted.
This kind of unpredictable bastard is of absolutely no benefit to Nianci's growth.
Thinking of this, Jiang Ling pouted angrily and stomped her feet heavily on the ground a few times.
While stomping on him, she muttered angrily, "Su Shunhe, what are you so arrogant about? Next time you fall into my hands, I'll make you feel what electric shock is! I'll let you know that I'm not someone to be trifled with!"
The magistrate saw her venting her frustrations. He wanted to comfort her, but he didn't know what to say. He could only stand there dumbly behind her, silently protecting her.
Having vented her anger, Jiang Ling and Magistrate Duan returned home one after the other.
Before they even reached their doorstep, they saw the four servants, Shanhehuhai, looking around as if searching for something.
Upon seeing Jiang Ling appear, the four of them swarmed around her, bombarding her with questions.
Upon seeing the finger mark on Jiang Ling's neck, Jiang Hu frowned and cursed under his breath, "Damn it, don't let me see that guy again, or I'll chop him to pieces!"
"Third brother! Don't talk nonsense and offend Anren's ears!" Jiang Shan, as the eldest brother, hurriedly reminded him.
Jiang Hu got a little anxious after Jiang Shan's move. He pointed at Jiang Ling and gestured to Jiang Shan, saying, "Big brother, are we just going to stand by and watch that guy shit on our heads?"
"Third brother! Shut up!" Jiang Shan didn't respond, but just scolded Jiang Hu.
Seeing that his older brother was somewhat angry, Jiang Hu lowered his head and shut his mouth.
"Alright, alright, you four go back first. I'm back now! Don't worry!" Jiang Ling patted each of them on the shoulder and said.
The sudden appearance of four people, four robust young men, at Jiang Ling's house left Magistrate Duan somewhat bewildered, and a bitter feeling settled over him.
He knew it was against etiquette to ask, but he couldn't suppress his curiosity and gently pointed to the four of them, asking, "Who are these four?"
"Let me introduce them to you. This is Magistrate Duan! These four are the servants sent down to me by His Majesty: Jiang Shan, Jiang He, Jiang Hu, and Jiang Hai!"
Upon hearing that the slightly overweight man in front of him was the county magistrate, the man immediately knelt down to greet him. When Magistrate Duan heard that the man was actually a servant sent by the emperor to serve Jiang Ling, he breathed a sigh of relief and quickly waved his hand to signal them to get up.
"Oh dear, what happened to your neck, Anren!" Granny Lan was away during the time when Su Shunhe and Jiang Ling were confronting each other.
Seeing the purplish finger marks on Jiang Ling's neck, he was shocked. He turned to the four of them, frowned, and asked, "Eunuch Yin has only been gone a few days! Are you all so lax? Aren't you afraid that Eunuch Yin will skin you alive if he finds out!"
Granny Lan's words shocked the four brothers. They looked at each other in disbelief. Jiang Hu was about to speak when Jiang Shan glared at him coldly and shut him up.
"It's alright, it's alright, it has nothing to do with them, Granny Lan. I might have something to do this afternoon. Could you help me cover this fingerprint?" Jiang Ling quickly spoke up for the four of them, not wanting to make a big fuss about it.
The four looked at Jiang Ling with gratitude, and Jiang Ling followed Granny Lan back into the house.
