After all that trouble, Jiang Ling went up the mountain again in the afternoon. Along the way, she picked a lot of wild mushrooms. She sold all the valuable ones in the system shop and kept most of the ones that didn't look good or were worthless for making soup that night.
As she walked, Jiang Ling was suddenly drawn to a patch of lush green plants not far from the cave.
"This...this is mint?" Jiang Ling walked to the lush green plant, picked one, and smelled it. A unique minty aroma wafted into Jiang Ling's nose, bringing a touch of coolness to the hot summer day.
Looking at the vast expanse of mint around her, an idea floated into Jiang Ling's mind.
Although Jiang Ling had the support of the system's shop, she didn't dare to openly use the money she earned there for daily expenses. After all, she was a penniless village woman, and spending even a little bit of that money would arouse suspicion from others.
Jiang Ling had been thinking about starting a small business lately, but she couldn't find a suitable business opportunity and was also very busy with other things, so she temporarily put her business idea aside.
Seeing such a large patch of mint, Jiang Ling immediately realized that her opportunity had arrived.
She remembered that back in modern times, she loved to drink peppermint water every summer to keep herself going. The cool and refreshing feeling was incredibly comforting. Now that it was the height of summer, she was confident that her peppermint water would sell out quickly.
Thinking of this, Jiang Ling quickly put down her basket, squatted down, and began digging for mint around her.
As the sun set, Jiang Ling stopped what she was doing and looked at the half-full basket of mint. Satisfied, she patted the dirt off her hands.
We left the mountains.
Before Jiang Ling even reached her own door, she saw the village chief and Jiang Yaojie seemingly talking about something.
Seeing this, Jiang Ling quickly walked up to the two and asked, "What's wrong?"
“Mrs. Jiang, I’ve come to discuss tonight’s plans with you. It’s getting late, and we should get on with our plan soon,” the village chief said.
Upon hearing the village chief's words, Jiang Ling remembered that there was a "thief-catching" operation that night. She gestured for Jiang Yaojie to take the basket inside and asked, "Village chief, have you notified anyone else about this?"
"Not yet. I think we can't make a big fuss about this. Like you said, it would be bad if they found out. I plan to just notify four or five honest people in our village to go to the back mountain to keep watch today, but..." The village chief paused, his expression becoming somewhat troubled.
"Village chief, do you mean I should come along too?" Jiang Ling asked.
The village chief was slightly surprised and subconsciously raised an eyebrow, saying, "Jiang Shi, how...how did you know?"
"Don't worry, village chief, I'll cook for the children and then come find you!" Jiang Ling smiled faintly without explaining.
"Alright...alright then, we'll meet at the back of the mountain in half an hour." The village chief gave Jiang Ling a meaningful look and said.
As soon as Jiang Ling opened the door, she saw all four children gathered around her basket.
"Mom, what are you going to do with these 'spicy herbs'?" Jiang Wenxi asked Jiang Ling curiously.
"Spicy grass?" Jiang Ling repeated, puzzled.
“Yes, Mom, why are you picking these ‘spicy herbs’? They smell awful! And they don’t taste good either! My older sister and I came to dig for wild vegetables a while ago and we didn’t pick these! We only eat these spicy herbs when we have no other choice!” Jiang Wenxi said, showing a disgusted expression.
“Yes, Mother, we wouldn’t touch this stuff unless we really couldn’t find any other wild vegetables,” Jiang Suihe chimed in.
Jiang Ling was speechless; she hadn't expected that mint would be so disliked in this era.
“Hmm, this ‘spicy grass’ isn’t always meant to be eaten; it can be used for other things too!” Jiang Ling smiled, took out a sprig of mint, casually picked a mint leaf, and crushed it in her hand.
He beckoned Jiang Wenxi, who was standing nearby, to come over.
Jiang Ling gently applied the crushed mint to Jiang Wenxi's temples, and Jiang Wenxi's expression immediately changed.
"Mom, why do I feel a chill?"
Jiang Wenxi's words aroused the curiosity of the other three children, and they all came to Jiang Ling's side, looking her up and down.
Jiang Ling smiled and took out some mint leaves, applying them to the temples of all three children as before.
"Wow! How amazing!" Jiang Suihe exclaimed in surprise.
"Mmm...so comfortable." Jiang Yaojie squinted his eyes, enjoying the brief coolness.
"Oh, this is so much fun!" Nianci rubbed her temples and even put her fingers under her nose to smell them.
"Isn't it amazing? There are even more amazing ways to make this, but I have something to do tonight. How about I make it for you tomorrow at noon?"
"good……"
"Mom, is something wrong tonight? I overheard Grandpa Village Chief talking to you about some plan."
Jiang Yaojie's words surprised Jiang Ling. She never expected that Jiang Yaojie's ability to read people's expressions had reached such a level.
Jiang Ling knew she couldn't hide it from Jiang Yaojie, so she simply told him everything that had happened that morning.
Jiang Yaojie was quite shocked after hearing this. He subconsciously covered his mouth, blinked, and said, "Mom, count me in!"
Jiang Ling shook her head in refusal, and Jiang Yaojie murmured in frustration, "Why? Is it because I'm not a member of the Lu family?"
"Silly child, this is an adult matter. You are still a child. This is very dangerous!" Jiang Ling explained patiently.
"Mom, I'm fourteen years old this year, I'm not a child anymore, I... I don't want you to get hurt!" Jiang Yaojie seemed to have mustered up a lot of courage to say these words.
