"Mom! Why didn't you help her! Why didn't you help her!" On the way back, Jiang Ling was nagged by Jiang Wenxi the whole way.
After returning home, Jiang Lingcai gently comforted her, "Your mother, although she is a fifth-rank official, this is not Lujia Village, but Shengjing. Looking around, there are many officials of the second and third ranks, not to mention the fifth rank!"
"Does that mean that guy surnamed Huang can do whatever he wants?" Jiang Wenxi said defiantly, puffing out her chest.
As Jiang Ling and her daughter were talking, Jiang Zhishan walked in from the doorway, looking at Jiang Wenxi, who had a defiant expression, and Jiang Ling, who had a dark face.
Jiang Zhishan suddenly sensed that the air pressure around him was a bit off!
"Big sister! Wenxi! What's wrong with you?" Jiang Zhishan hesitated for a moment before walking over to ask.
Before Jiang Ling could speak, Jiang Wenxi recounted everything that had happened to her.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Zhishan's face immediately changed color. He looked at Jiang Ling and then at Jiang Wenxi, asking, "Are you... are you alright?"
"Hmph! Uncle, I'm not afraid. I even punched that guy!" Jiang Wenxi said, deliberately waving her fist.
Jiang Zhishan's expression darkened further. He sighed helplessly and said to Jiang Wenxi, "Wenxi, why don't you go play somewhere else for a while? Your mother and I have something to discuss!"
Jiang Wenxi pursed her lips and said nothing, then went back to her room alone.
Jiang Zhishan looked rather unwell. He looked at Jiang Ling and asked, "Big sister, is that person from the Huang family?"
Jiang Ling didn't intend to hide it and nodded to Jiang Zhishan. Jiang Zhishan was a little surprised to hear this. He frowned and looked at Jiang Ling without saying anything for a long time.
"Don't worry, I'll handle this properly! You're getting married soon, so don't expect me to take care of these things!"
Although Jiang Zhishan was a little worried, she thought that her eldest sister was now a fifth-rank Anren and would probably handle it well, so she didn't say anything more.
October 4th. Auspicious for: moving house, breaking ground.
As soon as Jiang Ling came out of the house early in the morning, Jiang Zhishan came over.
"What's wrong? Is something the matter?" Jiang Ling looked at Jiang Zhishan's hesitant expression and guessed that he must have something to ask of him.
"Sister, I want you to come with me to look at houses. I'm getting married in four days, and I can't keep renting here forever, can I?" Jiang Zhishan blushed a little embarrassedly.
Jiang Ling craned her neck to look inside and whispered, "Is it just me? Aren't Mother and Zhitang going?"
Jiang Zhishan shook her head and whispered, "Never mind... Big sister, please come with me!"
Jiang Ling slapped Jiang Zhishan's forehead. "You're about to get married, and you're still acting like a child with me. Let's go!"
After finishing their breakfast, the two quietly left the rented courtyard.
In one morning, Jiang Ling accompanied Jiang Yaojie to look at three houses, none of which were very good in terms of size or location.
But in a place like Shengjing where land is incredibly valuable, being able to buy a courtyard house with two entrances and two exits is already quite impressive.
In the end, Jiang Zhishan chose the one closest to the capital. Although he would probably have to leave an hour earlier each day to attend court, at least Jiang Zhishan finally had a home of his own.
After much haggling, Jiang Ling managed to snatch the house from the original price of four thousand taels for five hundred taels. In the end, Jiang Zhishan took three thousand taels and Jiang Ling paid the remaining five hundred taels, and the house was finally settled.
It was already noon when the two returned to their rented apartment. Grandma Jiang frowned as she looked at the two people walking in and asked, "Where did you two go so early in the morning?"
"Oh, Mother, pack your things, let's move!" Jiang Zhishan did not directly answer the old lady's question.
"Moving? What happened? Are we not allowed to live here anymore?" Ma asked in shock after hearing Jiang Zhishan's words.
Jiang Zhishan shook his head. "No, sister-in-law, my eldest sister and I just went out and bought a house in the suburbs. It's rented land, after all. I'm getting married in a few days, and Lingrui can't possibly live here with me after she marries!"
"What? Zhishan buying a house is a big deal, why didn't you invite us!"
As expected, what you fear most has come to pass. Old Mrs. Jiang didn't say anything, but Mrs. Ma almost jumped up and down.
"What business is it of yours? I called you! Can you contribute money or labor? That's enough. Do you really think you're some kind of young mistress just because you've been here for a few days?" Jiang Zhishan was the apple of Old Madam Jiang's eye. Looking at Madam Ma's attitude, Old Madam Jiang retorted angrily.
Madam Ma pinched Jiang Zhitang somewhat angrily, then turned and walked into the bedroom, where she began to noisily pack her luggage.
Jiang Ling and the others didn't bring much with them, and Jiang Zhishan's side mostly consisted of books. The carriage made several trips back and forth before all the things were transported to the new house.
"Tsk, Zhishan, how much silver did you spend on this house?" Madam Ma rolled her eyes in disgust as she looked at the dusty room.
“Hmm, three thousand five hundred taels, my elder sister helped me pay five hundred taels!” Jiang Zhishan said after thinking for a moment.
"What? This house costs three thousand five taels?" This time, it wasn't Madam Ma who was surprised, but Old Madam Jiang.
She stared at Jiang Zhishan with eyes as big as mung beans, her face full of disbelief.
"Zhishan, you haven't been scammed, have you?" Grandma Jiang asked, frowning.
Jiang Zhishan shook his head and explained, "Mother, this is Shengjing, not our Lu Family Village. If I hadn't become the second-highest scorer this year, the house would have been even more expensive! Thanks to my eldest sister for helping me negotiate, I was able to save five hundred taels!"
Grandma Jiang didn't know what else to say, since her son was destined to stay in Shengjing in the future, so it was best for her to say as little as possible.
