"Come on, the four of you, sit down!" Jiang Ling said, looking at the three who seemed a little reserved.
The four exchanged glances and sat down next to Jiang Ling. Jiang Ling looked at Jiang Suihe, who was still somewhat shy, and said, "Suihe is all grown up now. Zhao Qianyu's child isn't a bad person either. Yaojie, what are your thoughts?"
"Me?" Jiang Yaojie pointed to his face, looking surprised.
Jiang Ling nodded: "Yes, you!"
"I... Mother, aren't you making things difficult for me! That kid Zhao Qianyu is already..." Jiang Yaojie said, his face full of reluctance.
Jiang Ling was somewhat helpless. She hadn't expected Jiang Yaojie to be such a protective brother. Not wanting the atmosphere to become awkward, Shen Congxin cautiously said, "Mother, I think we should at least buy a house for my younger sister as part of her dowry!"
Jiang Ling was somewhat surprised by Shen Congxin's idea. Jiang Ling nodded with satisfaction and said to Shen Congxin, "Indeed, Congxin is right. We really should buy a property for Suihe!"
"Mother, no...no...this is too precious!" Jiang Suihe quickly waved her hand in refusal.
“Take it, Mom is giving it to you, just accept it! What’s the big deal! It’s not like we can’t afford it!” Jiang Ling refused.
After some discussion, the group decided on a base of 100 acres of fertile land and a large courtyard with two entrances and two exits, with the remaining gold, silver and valuables to be calculated separately.
Jiang Ling looked at the list with satisfaction and said to Jiang Yaojie, "I'll leave the matter of buying a house and acquiring fertile land to you and Congxin. Get your younger sister to handle it in the next couple of days, understand?"
Jiang Yaojie nodded with a displeased expression.
Jiang Ling turned to Nianci and said, "Xiaoci, could you bring your parents over to be your older sister's witnesses at her wedding?"
Nianci nodded and immediately patted her chest to assure him.
Jiang Ling was very satisfied with her arrangement.
Five days later, Jiang Yaojie and Jiang Suihe had purchased a hundred acres of fertile land and a decent-looking courtyard. Nianci was escorted to Shengjing by Jiang Shan.
This morning, there was a sudden knock on the door. Jiang Ling pushed the door open and saw a matchmaker standing at the door.
"Greetings, Lady Gong!" The matchmaker hurriedly bowed upon seeing that the visitor was Jiang Ling.
Jiang Ling shook her head and said, "No need to call me 'Gongren,' they all call me 'Yaojie's Mother,' so you should just follow suit!"
"Oh my, good, good! Yaojie's mother, your family is really impressive! Your daughter is a well-known talented woman in our surrounding villages! She and Lord Zhao's son are a match made in heaven!" The matchmaker praised as she followed Jiang Ling in.
Although the relationship between Zhao Qianyu and Jiang Suihe was already a done deal, the proper procedures still had to be followed. The matchmaker happily accepted the money given to her by Jiang Ling, then put away Jiang Suihe's birth date and time, and left Jiang Ling's house with repeated polite farewells.
Two months later, Zhao Tianqi and the matchmaker personally visited and selected several auspicious days for all matters.
At that moment, Nianci returned to Jiang Ling's house with He Shunsu and Gu Aqi.
"Mother! My father and mother are here!" Nianci called out somewhat awkwardly, but apart from Zhao Tianqi and the matchmaker, no one paid any attention.
Jiang Ling was somewhat surprised. She quickly put down the red paper and said to Zhao Tianqi, "Wait a moment, my two good friends have arrived. I'll go and greet them first."
Zhao Tianqi craned his neck to look outside with some curiosity. When he saw He Shunsu, he immediately knelt down. The matchmaker next to him also knelt down when she saw Zhao Tianqi's strong reaction.
"I was unaware of the Third Prince's arrival, please forgive me!" Zhao Tianqi said tremblingly.
"What? The Third Prince?" The matchmaker secretly broke out in a cold sweat. She had really come to the right place today, as she was going to meet such an important person.
She peeked ahead furtively, but could only see a pair of boots made of extremely precious materials.
"Alright, get up. What do you mean by 'Third Prince'? I am Su Shunhe now, not some Third Prince at all. You better remember that!" He Shunsu said.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Tianqi immediately stood up from the ground, still unable to meet He Shunsu's gaze.
"Your son is going to marry her daughter?" He Shunsu asked, sizing up Zhao Tianqi.
Zhao Tianqi had only met the Third Prince once, but when faced with the domineering He Shunsu, Zhao Tianqi inexplicably started to stutter.
"Yes...yes!"
"Hmm, alright. Any child who catches the eye of the Jiang family is no ordinary person. I've come here for no other reason than to see what's so special about Lu Family Village and to be your son's officiant at his wedding."
Upon hearing this, Zhao Tianqi was overjoyed. The dignified Third Prince was actually acting as the best man for the son of a county magistrate. Wasn't that a blessing he had earned?
He hurriedly bowed and made a gesture of respect, but He Shunsu, who had never liked formalities, quickly declined.
Jiang Ling noticed the problem and said, "Nianci, go take your parents for a walk!"
Nianci nodded, and the family of three left Jiang Ling's house.
The discussion went smoothly, and Jiang Ling ultimately chose March 18th of next spring as the wedding date.
Time flies, and March is here soon.
For some reason, Jiang Suihe felt uneasy.
She didn't understand why she felt nervous when the day she had been longing for was about to arrive.
During this week, Jiang Suihe lost her appetite, became restless, and quickly lost weight.
On the morning of March 15th, Granny Mei knocked on Jiang Ling's bedroom door in a panic.
"Gongren, no... something bad has happened! Miss is in trouble!" Jiang Ling, who was still a little dazed, was startled.
She immediately jumped out of bed, not even bothering to put on her shoes, and followed Granny Mei into Jiang Suihe's room.
"What happened?" Jiang Ling frowned as she looked at Jiang Suihe, who was lying on the bed with a pale face.
"Madam, Miss, your pulse indicates a gloomy state, likely caused by excessive worry!" Granny Mei said gravely.
"Excessive worry? Could it be pre-wedding jitters?" Jiang Ling pondered silently to herself.
"Alright, you can go out now. I'll take care of Suihe!" Jiang Ling waved her hand, signaling Granny Mei to leave.
Two hours later, Jiang Suihe slowly woke up.
"Mother! What... what's wrong with me?" Jiang Suihe asked, looking at Jiang Ling who had a worried expression.
"Suihe, can you tell your mother what's wrong with you lately? Why did Granny Mei say you're overthinking things?" Jiang Ling asked Jiang Suihe with a worried expression.
Jiang Suihe bit her lip and stammered, then suddenly her eyes reddened and she burst into tears.
"Mom! I don't know why, but I suddenly feel so reluctant to leave you! I..." Jiang Suihe threw herself into Jiang Ling's arms and sobbed uncontrollably.
Seeing Jiang Suihe's expression, Jiang Ling felt a huge weight lifted from her heart. She gently stroked Jiang Suihe and said, "It's alright, it's alright! You're just getting married, it's not like your mother sold you! Anyway, it's only a few hours from Lujia Village to Guangping County. I'll ask your older brother to get you a carriage. Come back and visit your mother whenever you miss her!"
"Really...really, Mother?" Jiang Suihe asked, her voice choked with emotion.
