Chapter 48 Improved Peppermint Water 1

Early the next morning, Uncle Lu slowly drove the oxcart to Jiang Ling's door.

Jiang Ling busied herself putting the four buckwheat pancakes with eggs she had made that morning into her bosom, and then, with her three children, she pushed her wheelbarrow onto Uncle Lu's oxcart.

Perhaps because there was a water source, the villagers were all in the fields.

There were only Jiang Ling and her three children on the bus this time. Jiang Ling took out the buckwheat cakes from her arms and distributed them to her three children, saying, "Eat something first, and I'll buy you some snacks after I finish selling the mint water!"

Uncle Lu slowly drove the oxcart to Changning Town.

After Jiang Ling got out of the car with her three children, she said to Uncle Lu, "Uncle Lu, could you wait here for me for a while? I still need to go to Pingxi County later."

“Pingxi County? The Jiang family will charge extra. You’ll need to give me another four copper coins!” Uncle Lu said.

Jiang Ling grinned upon hearing this. Although she was somewhat displeased, she didn't show it. She took out four copper coins from her pocket and handed them to Uncle Lu, saying, "Alright, Uncle Lu, please wait here for me for a while!"

Jiang Ling pushed her wheelbarrow back to the spot where she had set up her stall yesterday.

The men who were working kept glancing in the direction Jiang Ling was coming from, as if they were all waiting for her.

Jiang Ling had just pushed the cart over and hadn't even had time to put down the tables and chairs when the group of men swarmed around her.

Jiang Ling was very well prepared this time; she secretly bought all five teapots at the mall while the children were sleeping.

She calmly placed the teapot on the table and looked at the men who had gathered around, saying, "Brothers, let me make this clear: it's three copper coins for a pot of mint water."

"Sister-in-law, no problem! We all know how honest you are in business! Hurry up and pour us some mint water!" Big Niu, the leader, said with a simple smile.

Jiang Ling deftly poured the mint water into the prepared teapot.

The sun was radiating tremendous energy, and the men, already drenched in sweat from their work, drank the mint water and kept praising Jiang Ling's cooking skills.

Soon, the bucket of mint water was sold out. Some of the men seemed to still want more. One of them, a short, dark-skinned man, glanced at another bucket and said, "Sister-in-law, can you sell us some more? You still have one bucket left."

After rinsing all the teapots and teacups in water, Jiang Ling said to everyone, "I'm so sorry, this bucket has already been reserved. If you like it, you can reserve it with me in advance. These things don't keep well; if they're not sold out on the same day, they'll spoil the next day."

After hearing this, the men who were working looked at each other, and finally nodded to Da Niu as if exchanging opinions.

"Sister-in-law, could you save two buckets for us tomorrow?" Da Niu asked Jiang Ling.

Jiang Ling quickly calculated the preparation time and ingredients in her mind, then nodded and agreed, "Okay, I'll reserve two buckets for you tomorrow!"

Upon hearing this, the men all left Jiang Ling's stall.

After putting the packed items on the wheelbarrow, Jiang Ling led the three children toward the place where Uncle Lu had parked the oxcart.

With nothing to do, Uncle Lu was dozing off, his straw hat pulled over his face to shield him from the sun. Suddenly, Jiang Wenxi felt playful. She quietly walked up to Uncle Lu and called out in his ear, "Wake up! Uncle Lu!"

Lu Bo, who was having a sweet dream, was startled by Jiang Wenxi's shout, and the straw hat that was on his face fell to the ground.

He sat up abruptly from the oxcart, glanced at Jiang Wenxi who was clapping his hands and smiling beside him, and said, "This child is really naughty!"

Lu Bo rubbed his eyes, yawned widely, and looked at Jiang Ling. He asked in surprise, "Jiang's... has it all sold out already?"

Jiang Ling smiled and nodded. After loading everything onto the car, she said to Uncle Lu, "Uncle Lu, let's go to Pingxi County."

Lu Bo didn't say anything more and drove the oxcart toward Pingxi County.

It takes about half an hour to get from Pingxi County to Changning Town. Sitting in the car, Jiang Wenxi cupped her face and gently said to Jiang Ling, "Mom, I'm a little hungry."

Jiang Ling was somewhat surprised. She looked up at the sky and began to ponder. "Only an hour and a half has passed since we left, how come this little girl is already hungry?"

Despite her thoughts, Jiang Ling patiently said to Jiang Wenxi, "Wenxi, be good, when we get to Pingxi County, Mom will buy you some snacks!"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Wenxi immediately smiled and nodded hurriedly.

Sitting on the oxcart, Jiang Ling began to recall Jiang Wenxi's recent appetite.

"This girl seems to be eating a lot lately, even more than Suihe. Could it be because eating more gives her more strength? Never mind, I've made some money anyway, and I can't let the kids suffer. I'll buy them some more snacks later!"

Pingxi County is much larger than Changning Town. The people here dress differently from those in Changning Town, and the shops here sell a wider variety of goods.

Jiang Ling walked to the front of the government office based on her previous memories. When the yamen runners at the gate saw Jiang Ling, they did not scold her coldly. Instead, they came down to help her carry the mint water from the wheelbarrow. Judging from this, it was estimated that Magistrate Duan had notified them in advance.

"Auntie, thank you for your hard work. I'll return the basin to you in a moment," a tall, thin constable said to Jiang Ling.

"Auntie?" Jiang Ling's mouth twitched several times upon hearing this.

"Thank goodness Yaojie hasn't gotten married yet, otherwise those people would be calling me Old Woman Jiang!" Thinking of this, Jiang Ling felt a little depressed.

Thirty years old isn't considered young these days, but at least you wouldn't be called an "auntie." I'm only thirty, and people are already calling me that! No way! Absolutely not! Once I earn some money, I'm definitely going to go to the mall and buy anti-aging products! I'm going to get some proper beauty treatments!
