So, Chu Jinyu ended up staying in the capital and following Han Zhongyu.
After a palace coup, all the other princes over the age of fifteen were granted the title of king and given their own royal residences. They were then confined to the capital by the new emperor and kept under his watchful eye.
The third princess, who had been eyeing Han Zhongyu, was given by the new emperor to a 28-year-old sixth-rank official, a Jinshi (successful candidate in the highest imperial examination) from the previous year.
Xie Yushu listened to these things casually; although she disliked the Third Princess, she didn't take them to heart.
She always believed that true love cannot be interfered with by a third party. She believed in Han Zhongyu, and she believed in herself.
True love is unwavering. If it can be interfered with, stolen away, or diluted by time, it's simply because one person doesn't love that much. Since the love isn't that strong, there's no point in clinging on.
In mid-May, the capital returned to normal, and the Empress Dowager bid farewell to the new emperor, requesting to leave the palace to recuperate.
The new emperor understood the empress dowager's feelings and readily agreed, immediately dispatching three hundred Blue Feather Guards to accompany and protect her.
Xie Yushu went to the palace to receive the Empress Dowager and also to bid farewell to the new emperor.
The new emperor knew that Xie Yushu was responsible for their safe arrival of reinforcements at the lantern festival. However, Xie Yushu was already a first-rank princess and had no shortage of gold and silver. Therefore, he bestowed upon her a pardon before his departure.
Xie Yushu readily accepted the gold medal, thanked Emperor Jingren, and then left the palace with the Empress Dowager.
On the day he left the capital, Han Zhongyu skipped work for half a day to see Xie Yushu and her party off.
As they parted, both were reluctant to leave, but they both knew that the tallest tree in the forest is bound to be felled by the wind, and that Han Zhongyu alone was enough for the capital.
"Wait for me. I'll come back in three years, and then we'll never be apart again, okay?"
Han Zhongyu's voice was somewhat muffled as he held Xie Yushu tightly, unwilling to let go.
Xie Yushu looked up and laughed.
"Okay! But, while you're in the capital, remember to keep yourself pure. You're mine, and you're already taken. With that troublesome face of yours, you need to be more self-aware and keep yourself clean, understand?"
Otherwise, come back and I won't want you anymore!
Han Zhongyu felt utterly wronged upon hearing Xie Yushu's words and couldn't help but say...
"Actually, I wanted to say that too, but you're the one who's causing me so much trouble! I wish I could tell the whole world that you're taken too!"
Xie Yushu smiled slyly
"You have a good eye for talent. After the national mourning period, remember to dress neatly and tidy up. Wait for me to come and marry you on a tall horse!"
"Okay, it's a deal!"
