Chapter 118: There is a House Deep in the White Clouds

Qianmen Village, producing Ba!

Tao Xiaoxi told his elder brother and sister-in-law the news without delay and asked them to pack up immediately and prepare to go to the provincial capital.

The eldest brother hesitated. He had heard the story of the boy who cried wolf so many times that he was no longer afraid of wolves.

The sister-in-law looked at her brother and was not sure either.

Tao Xiaoxi's enthusiasm met with icy coldness. She said in disbelief, "The child is yours. Now her life is better, but Mo girl is still living in dire straits. As her parents, don't you feel bad for her?"

"How can I not feel sad? But after searching for so many years, I'm afraid it's all in vain." The eldest brother said timidly.

"Just tell me whether you are going or not?" Tao Xiaoxi asked directly.

"Let Zhou Lan go. She has people coming to see her for medical treatment today and tomorrow, so she can't leave."

Tao Xiaoxi rolled her eyes. "I'm already here. What are you worried about, brother? Or do you not want to find Mo girl?"

The eldest brother's eyes were wandering and he was stuttering.

Tao Xiaoxi waved her hand and said, "Never mind, she will go and take a look at the situation first."

This time, she and her elder sister-in-law Zhou Lan set out together. When they arrived at the county town, Nan Qiu and his wife came to pick them up.

Chanba Qianmen Village is not far from the provincial capital, but the difficulty lies in the rugged roads and remote terrain. It is located in a large mountain valley, four or five times more remote than Mantou Village.

It was the first time the four of them went there. Because they didn’t know the way, they had to climb over a mountain before they saw the house at the foot of the mountain.

Tao Xiaoxi wiped the sweat off his face and looked at the scattered houses at the foot of the mountain in disbelief. There was not a single decent house. There were only trees and weeds everywhere. It looked more like a primitive tribal settlement than a village.

The road down the mountain was slippery, and the four people walked carefully. The eldest sister-in-law was probably too nervous and was tripped by the slanting branches several times, leaving scars on her face and hands. Tao Xiaoxi saw it and asked her to slow down.

When they actually walked into the village, the three women frowned. Liang Hengsheng couldn't believe that there was such a backward place under the jurisdiction of his father. Shame and pity surged in his heart.

When they entered the village, it was almost noon. A few wisps of smoke were rising, giving it a rural feel. Tao Xiaoxi saw smoke coming out of a house not far away and thought of going up to ask.

The woman did not cook inside the house, but outside. She had an earthen stove made of a few bricks and stones, and a rusty iron pot in which she cooked a pot of wild vegetable porridge. The smell was not very pleasant.

"Sister, where is Li Mo's home?" Tao Xiaoxi asked.

The woman glanced at them warily and shook her head. "I don't know."

Tao Xiaoxi came prepared. She opened the bag of white flour buns she carried with her and gave two to her elder sister.

The eldest sister's eyes were hesitant and full of desire. She didn't recognize the person in front of her, but the white flour buns were really tempting.

"Mom!" A baby ran out of the room, wearing only a shirt and no pants, barely covering his buttocks. His clothes were covered with patches. He stared at the steamed bun in Tao Xiaoxi's hand, unable to take his eyes off it.

"Child, come here and eat it." Tao Xiaoxi stuffed one into the baby's hand.

The eldest sister pulled the child behind her.

Tao Xiaoxi glanced at Liang Hengsheng, who understood and stepped forward, pulling out his work ID. "We're teachers from the city, and we're here to do a survey to see how many other villages in our province are struggling to get enough food, just like yours."

The eldest sister looked at the four of them carefully again, and probably believed it, "I don't understand anything."

"It's okay, don't be nervous. We will find the village chief when the time comes. But we have a friend who seems to be getting married in your village. Sister, do you know Li Mo?" Liang Heng said calmly.

"Li Mo?" The eldest sister thought for a moment and said, "I don't know him."

"Her husband's legs are broken, and she can't speak." Tao Xiaoxi said.

"Are you looking for her?" The eldest sister suddenly became alert again, took a step back and hugged the child in her arms.

"You know her, right?" Li Nanqiu asked.

"I don't know him. I don't know this kind of person. You guys should leave quickly." The eldest sister pulled the child into the house, not even caring about the rice in the pot.

The four people stood there looking at each other.

"Let's go find the village chief. He must know." Li Nanqiu said.

"No, we should call the police first." Tao Xiaoxi said softly.

"Why are you calling the police?" The sister-in-law was so nervous that she couldn't speak. When she heard that she had to call the police, she became even more nervous.

"I suspect that Miss Mo was trafficked here, and the name she's using now is not her real name."

"Ah!" The sister-in-law could hardly stand and had to hold on to the tree next to her to barely stand.

"I agree to call the police." Liang Hengsheng also said.

Instead of calling 110 directly, they contacted 119 first, saying that they were trapped in a mountain and couldn't get out. On the phone, Liang Hengsheng specifically mentioned his identity. After the other party understood, he immediately said that he would send a rescue team.

"Why don't you call the police directly?" asked the sister-in-law.

"Because if you call the police directly, they may not come."

"You'll know it now?"

"Just wait, it will definitely come."

But Liang Hengsheng would definitely be punished when he returned, so Tao Xiaoxi smiled at him apologetically.

While waiting for the rescue team to arrive, the four of them sat in a secluded valley, quietly waiting. Mo Yatou was right before their eyes; they would soon see her, but everyone was worried. They wondered what Mo Yatou would look like. Did she have a child? Had she been beaten? Would she still recognize them?

From morning to afternoon, the rescue team finally arrived before sunset. There were eight of them in total, all strong and healthy, and all carrying weapons. Tao Xiaoxi felt relieved and walked out openly.
