Chapter 25 Live Beads

Some people in Old Li's family had a really good meal tonight. Even behind closed doors, they could still smell the rich aroma of the local chicken, the huge chicken legs, the powerful wings, and even the chicken head looked so unruly.

"Did you really pick this up on the way?" Yang Rongzhi asked in a low voice.

"How coincidental! Two chickens were fighting, and the losing one hit its head against the wall and fainted on the spot. I figured it was of no use, so it was a pity, so I brought it back. Isn't this a pick-up?" Li Nanhai was secretly delighted.

"What a pity. He is a man of integrity. It's a pity that he was born into the wrong body. I hope he can be reborn as a human being in the next life." Yang Rongzhi said hypocritically.

"Okay, call Damao and Ermao to eat. It won't taste the same if it gets cold." Li Nanhai couldn't wait any longer.

The second brother's family ate the whole chicken to their heart's content, their mouths greasy and their faces slick with oil. They even mixed the remaining chicken soup with noodles, which made Da Mao and Er Mao cry with joy. It was so delicious.

The children couldn't hide the fact that they had eaten such a feast; they used it as a way to show off. The next day, all the children in Mantou Village knew that Da Mao and Er Mao had eaten a whole chicken, and they gathered around to ask what it tasted like.

Da Mao and Er Mao are now like roosters that have won a fight, looking very majestic. Even the two snots hanging under their noses look majestic and impressive!

Naturally, they would not miss the opportunity to show off in front of Beibei, and they pulled Beibei over and talked about it for a long time. It was hard for Beibei to forget it, so as soon as she got home, she naturally told her mother Tao Xiaoxi about it.

Tao Xiaoxi was just worrying about not finding a way to hatch the eggs, thinking that this nest of eggs might become live eggs. After hearing what Beibei said, she laughed. Didn't the second brother just send chickens?

"Beibei, let's go get the chicken."

"Mom, where can I get the chicken?"

"Whoever ate our chicken, we'll take it back."

"Oh, Da Mao and Er Mao's home." Beibei said, and even such a young kid understood it.

The mother and daughter hummed songs all the way to Old Li's house.

Standing here again, Tao Xiaoxi felt as if she had been in another world. This was the first place she had come to after traveling through time. It could be said that she had a connection with this place.

When Mrs. Li saw that it was Tao Xiaoxi, she was a little afraid and reluctant. She neither let anyone in nor refused to let anyone in through the door.

"Who's there?" Old Man Li asked in the yard.

"Beibei and her mother." Mrs. Li said in a low voice, glancing at Tao Xiaoxi.

"Who?" Old man Li asked again.

"Tao Xiaoxi." This time, Mrs. Li simply said the full name.

When Old Man Li heard the name, the people sitting there immediately stood up and said, "Let him in. What's wrong with you, woman?"

Tao Xiaoxi didn't come in, but smiled and said, "Uncle Li, your second son ate my chicken, what do you think we should do about this?"

Old Man Li and Mrs. Li looked at each other and said, "That's impossible. We all ate at the same table and have never eaten chicken."

"Just ask your Da Mao and Er Mao to come out and you'll know whether there is any." Tao Xiaoxi said.

Old man Li called out Da Mao and Er Mao and found out everything he knew at once.

Old man Li's face was covered with bruises, and he once again lost face in front of Tao Xiaoxi, the woman.

"How can you be sure that it's your chicken?" Mrs. Li was unwilling to accept it and wanted to argue again.

"First of all, my hen is missing. Secondly, my chicken is still hatching eggs. In the entire Mantou Village, no chicken eats better or grows fatter than my chicken. Damao said that the chicken legs he and his brother eat are thicker than his wrists. If you still don't believe me, call your son and daughter-in-law out to confront me." Tao Xiaoxi responded calmly and unhurriedly.

Old man Li knew it was almost certain, "No need."

"The child's father——"

"Stop talking and go get her one of our chickens," Old Man Li ordered.

"But we don't have any laying hens." Mrs. Li muttered softly.

"Then just catch two laying hens, and I won't tell anyone about this." Tao Xiaoxi understood the big picture.

"You really think that your hatching hens can be as good as my two laying hens?" Mrs. Li was so angry that she jumped up and down.

"Just go and catch it if I tell you to!" Old man Li roared, as if in the next second all the men, women and children in Mantou Village would know that his second son had stolen someone else's chicken.

Mrs. Li didn't dare to retort, and walked towards the chicken coop in a sullen manner.

After a while, a hen was brought out.

"Is it a hatching hen?" Tao Xiaoxi asked.

"Yes." Mrs. Li said unwillingly.

"Didn't you just say no?" Tao Xiaoxi continued to play dumb.

"I, I remembered it wrongly." Mrs. Li said guiltily.

Tao Xiaoxi put the chicken on her hand to cushion it, "It seems not as fat as my chicken."

"Go in and get ten more eggs." Old man Li said again.

Mrs. Li felt as if her feet were weighed down by a thousand pounds and she couldn't move a step at all.

Tao Xiaoxi looked at her with a faint smile, and did not urge her. She just looked at the old couple opposite.

Finally, when Old Man Li got angry with the woman and Mrs. Li was about to go in to get the eggs, Tao Xiaoxi showed great generosity and waved her hand, "No need, uncle, just know what's going on."

After saying this, Tao Xiaoxi took Beibei back.

Mrs. Li smiled widely, unable to hide her joy, as if she had gotten a great deal.

Old man Li, however, was not happy. He hung his head, looking as if he had been caught and would never be able to raise his head again in his life.

"Call the second son out." The old man ordered his wife.

"Let's just forget it." Mrs. Li trembled. The old man was really angry.

"Go ahead and scream when I tell you to!" Old man Li was like an angry lion, with his bloody mouth wide open, ready to eat people.

Mrs. Li hurried to call.

On the way back, Beibei asked, "Mom, why don't you want eggs?"

Tao Xiaoxi smiled and said, "Ten eggs are just a few. If Mom wants more, she won't be able to finish them all."

She knew that for someone like Old Man Li, a timid yet principled man with limited talent, giving was more damaging than receiving. They didn't like to owe favors, and once they did, they would find ways to repay them. Tao Xiaoxi, however, refused to let him repay. She was still counting on this favor to rekindle her lingering connection with Li Nanshan.

But now, her nest of eggs has a hen again, so she can no longer eat the live eggs.
