"Dad, Mom, let's wait until she wakes up before we discuss this." Outside the house, Li Nanshan's face darkened, ending the long-winded conversation. He woke up to find himself nearly buried and even arranged to be in a ghost marriage. Besides being shocked, he felt his parents were incredibly foolish and outrageous. But since he'd narrowly escaped death, he didn't blame them too much. He simply couldn't let them make the same mistake again.
"Why, you still want to keep that woman? She's married and has a child." Old man Li said frankly. He knew he had done something stupid, but there was no way he could accept the marriage.
Li Nanshan shook his head at his foolish father. "If they sue us, we'll win. You and her man will be implicated. I didn't mean to keep her, but I can't just send her back while she's unconscious. It wouldn't be right. After all, we were the ones who wronged her first."
"What's there to be sorry about? We were also cheated. Who knew she was not dead? We even spent a lot of money." Old man Li was so angry that he felt in his heart that he was cheated, not committed a crime.
"So what? Are you going to let us all die again and you bury us again?"
Li Nanshan shuddered at the thought of the suffocating pressure in that dark, cramped box. If Tao Xiaoxi hadn't woken him, he would have been dead. For this alone, it wouldn't be too much for him to repay her kindness for the rest of his life.
After hearing this, the Li family's parents fell silent. Mrs. Li's eyes turned red and she pulled her son's hand, "Nanshan, that's not what your parents meant. How could it be that? We are so happy that you can wake up. Let's not say such depressing words. It is said that those who survive a great disaster will have good fortune in the future. You still have many days to enjoy happiness in the future. Let's live well."
After hearing Mrs. Li's soft words, Old Man Li's stubborn expression softened, but he still said, "Just listen to her. When she wakes up, let her go. If she wants to blackmail our family, we can't do that."
Li Nanshan was full of reasons but couldn't explain them clearly, so he walked away in anger.
He came into the room and saw Tao Xiaoxi still lying peacefully on the kang, a surge of pity welling up in his heart. If he had heard correctly, she had no parents, and her older brother was still left in her family, but he was also struggling to take care of himself. The man had a woman outside and brought her home in front of her, and even made her cook, warm wine and serve. He didn't know whether to call her kind or foolish, but he absolutely could not agree with such behavior. Even though he was a man, he also felt that after becoming a wife and mother, a woman should not only be a wife and mother, but also be herself.
So, at this moment, Li Nanshan felt only pity for Tao Xiaoxi, and no other feelings. He felt that this woman was too pedantic and too weak. He could help her, but he did not agree with her approach.
Tao Xiaoxi lay there in a daze, not knowing how long had passed. She heard Li Nanshan spread a mat on the ground and then lay down on it. She was a little nervous. It was the first time in her life that she was in the same room with a man. In her previous life, many people pursued her, but perhaps she was slow to realize it and no one was interested in her.
She began to have wild thoughts, wondering if this guy would do something to her in the dark, if he would do something to her and then kill her, or even if he would abandon her body in the wilderness... As she was thinking about this, she actually fell asleep again.
When I woke up, it was already dawn. I was so hungry that my stomach was growling.
Tao Xiaoxi held her stomach, thinking about the mornings like this in the past when her enthusiastic senior and junior brothers would buy her a steaming hot breakfast, and she couldn't help but let her imagination run wild.
This thought is bad.
It seems like she has traveled through time again!
She saw an empty hillside covered with flowers and plants, which was quite spectacular. But when she took a closer look, she found something wrong. These were not ordinary flowers and plants, but priceless Chinese herbal medicines, most of which were used to treat women's diseases and sexual disharmony between couples. Many of them were special medicinal herbs that she had never seen in her previous life. She only heard her great-grandmother say that they were now blooming all over the mountains and fields. The first feeling that came to Tao Xiaoxi was that she had made a fortune!
Her hope was ignited, and she picked some precious medicinal herbs and started plucking them. Just as she plucking one, she heard someone calling her name. She became anxious and returned to the kang.
Still holding the herb in her hand, she threw it toward the window in a hurry, but she didn't expect to throw it directly out of the window.
Li Nanshan came in and saw that the person on the kang was still motionless. His brows furrowed more and more. He muttered, "It seems we need to change a doctor" and left.
Tao Xiaoxi opened her eyes, and the first thing she did was to get up and look at the window. Oh my god, the herb was lying on the ground. So she didn't travel through time, but she had a space!
Tao Xiaoxi was filled with mixed feelings of sadness and joy.
She was just thinking about how to pick up the herbs when she saw a woman in her thirties or forties coming out of the west room with a medicine jar in her hand. She saw the herbs on the ground, muttered to herself, and bent down to pick them up.
Tao Xiaoxi cried out inwardly, thinking it was bad, and made a noise, which was just seen by the woman who had just stood up. Her pupils dilated slightly, as if she was very surprised, but she quickly regained her composure. She bowed and walked back, as if she hadn't seen anything.
Tao Xiaoxi keenly recognized this as Zhou Lan, the original author's eldest sister-in-law. Barely able to bear children, she was treated coldly and invisible in the Li family. She was particularly controlled by the second son's wife, Yang Rongzhi, who ordered her to do all the dirty work. There was nothing she could do about it; the second son had given birth to two boys in a row. Consequently, the eldest sister-in-law developed a quiet, self-protective disposition. But at heart, she was a straightforward, opinion-free person.
When Tao Xiaoxi thought of this, she didn't feel so sorry about the loss of the herb just now. We were both wanderers in the world, so she hoped she could help her. She just hoped she wouldn't throw it away without knowing its value.
