Chapter 40 He's the One Who Can't Help You
The day after Liang Hengsheng left, Li Nanshan returned to the village without a moment's delay. And as if to make a fool of himself, he ran head-on into Tao Xiaoxi just as he entered the village entrance, before even entering his home.
Tao Xiaoxi saw the look of surprise and the expression that he could never have imagined. She wanted to kick him three times.
"What? Do you hate me so much that I can't even appear in front of you?" Tao Xiaoxi snorted.
"You, why are you here?" Li Nanshan never thought that the first person he would see when he returned to the village would be her.
"Why don't you tell me why I can't be here?" Tao Xiaoxi was angry.
"No, didn't Liang Hengsheng leave?" Li Nanshan was mixed with joy and sorrow, his face showing that he wanted to cry and laugh at the same time.
"What does his leaving have to do with me?" Tao Xiaoxi sneered.
"Ah?" Li Nanshan seemed to understand at that moment, but he was too happy and used the wrong expression.
Tao Xiaoxi thought that was contempt, disdain and disdain, so she walked up to him without any hesitation and pretended to accidentally step on Li Nanshan's foot, then walked away without looking back.
Li Nanshan didn't care about the pain, and ran home like a madman with his feet in a mess.
He ran home not to find his parents, but to find his eldest sister-in-law. He knew that in the entire Li family, his eldest sister-in-law and Tao Xiaoxi had the best relationship. He was eager to know why Tao Xiaoxi didn't go with Liang Hengsheng.
But the eldest sister-in-law just shook her head and said, "I don't know. I went to see Xiaoxi the last two times, and she wasn't home."
Li Nanshan didn't give up after not getting an answer. He called Da Mao and Er Mao over and gave each of them a small piece of rock sugar. "Can you bring Bei Bei over?"
"Yes!" The two brothers were drooling as they looked at the two pieces of rock candy. Even if they were asked to get Beibei's mother over, they could do it.
Half an hour later, Beibei stood in front of Li Nanshan, with a bulging mouth filled with something.
"Beibei, did your mother tell you to live in the city?"
"No." As Beibei opened her mouth, the two rock candies in her mouth almost fell out.
Da Mao and Er Mao were so nervous that they rushed forward to catch it with their hands, but they were safe.
Li Nanshan understood that Damao and Ermao had given their candies to Beibei.
But the point is: “Never said it once?”
Beibei thought for a moment and said, "No."
"Okay, let's go play." Li Nanshan's heart was rekindled, just like a dead tree meeting spring and grass meeting the spring breeze.
However, Damao and Ermao refused to do so. They gave the reward that their uncle had just given them to Beibei and got nothing to eat.
Li Nanshan generously took out three more candies from the candy jar and gave one to each of the three children. He then opened one of the two packages of cakes he had brought back and shared it with the three of them, saying, "Don't tell your grandma."
"I know, I know." Damao and Ermao responded and ran out of the yard.
When eating dinner in the evening, Beibei couldn't eat much. Tao Xiaoxi felt strange and asked him what he had eaten in the afternoon.
Beibei counted carefully on her fingers, "Three candies and two mung bean cakes."
"My goodness, where did you get all this food?" Tao Xiaoxi was really surprised. There were very few people in Mantou Village who had such financial resources and were so generous, almost zero.
"Da Mao and Er Mao's uncle gave it to them." Bei Bei said childishly.
"Li Nanshan?"
"Yeah, Uncle Nanshan." Beibei remembered this was the name.
"What is he trying to do? He rejected me, but he is so caring towards Beibei." Tao Xiaoxi muttered to herself, turned around and told Beibei not to eat anything given by strangers next time.
"Is Uncle Nanshan a stranger? Mom, we know Uncle Nanshan." Beibei was a little confused.
"Just treat them as strangers and don't go to Damao and Ermao's homes anymore." Tao Xiaoxi thought that everyone in the Li family had bad intentions towards her, or they had some ulterior motives, so it was better not to have any contact with them.
During the time when no one chopped firewood for her, Tao Xiaoxi had to buy firewood. When she saw someone driving a tractor to the countryside to sell coal briquettes, she would buy some. However, since she didn't have a coal stove, it would be a waste to use the coal briquettes in the wood stove.
The next day, Li Nanshan returned and went up the mountain with his tools, including a hatchet and a rope. The second brother followed him and said there was still some firewood at home, but he ignored him and did not return until the sun was almost setting, without bringing any firewood home. The second brother was very confused, wondering where the firewood had gone.
When asked, he didn't answer.
Yang Rongzhi quietly pulled her husband aside and whispered, "Haven't you heard? All the firewood your brother chopped went to that witch Tao Xiaoxi. I think he's probably been bewitched by her."
"That's impossible. I don't think they have much contact with each other." Li Nanhai didn't quite believe it.
"Are you stupid? Do you think such a thing should be discussed openly? If you don't believe it, just go and see for yourself." After Yang Rongzhi said that, he called Damao and Ermao to take a shower.
Although Li Nanhai didn't quite believe what his wife said, he still had doubts in his heart and really went out and headed towards Tao Xiaoxi's house.
The door of Tao Xiaoxi's house was closed, and the two thick bundles of firewood were standing in front of their door, like two door gods.
"They actually came here, damn it!" Li Nanhai slapped his thigh and hurried back to report this great news to their father.
Tao Xiaoxi was not away from home, but she did not want to see Li Nanshan, so she stubbornly refused to take the firewood he chopped, and Li Nanshan did not take it away, leaving it for her to dispose of.
How could she deal with it? It was so heavy. Could she just burn it?
Ever since the joint burial incident, the Li family has been in an uproar every now and then. Now, when the second brother told the story of his third brother sending firewood to Tao Xiaoxi, the Li family was in an uproar again.
