Sun Wangcai's home is located under a crooked jujube tree at the westernmost end of Mantou Village. His family is the only one that lives here. On weekdays, people don't like to go here when they have nothing to do, but today it is quite lively.
Naturally, the Sun family also knew about the commotion Old Man Li had caused. True to Sun Wangcai's nature, he simply refused to see anyone. So, as expected, everyone was turned away at the Sun family's door. Old Man Li didn't care if anyone was home or not. He had Tao Xiaoxi dropped off and left. He left so abruptly, like a general returning from a victorious battle or a young man recovering from a serious illness. He swung his arms, pushed through the crowd, and strode away with his head held high.
Those who hadn't had enough of the fun waited a little longer, but the wind blew hard, and even hunching their heads didn't help. Finally, unable to stand the cold, they all left. Only a few children were left, milling around Tao Xiaoxi, curious about why she was lying on the ground.
Tao Xiaoxi didn't cry or get angry. She simply sat up cross-legged, half of the quilt under her and half wrapped around her body, keeping warm. She was waiting for someone. Since Old Man Li had set the mood for her here, she could only take the libretto and continue singing. Whether that person would come or not was hard to say.
At this point, she was certain that Sun Wangcai and his family were hiding in the house, planning to spend the money they'd earned, only to have her come back alive. Sun Wangcai didn't want her back because he didn't want to return the money. Unfortunately, even she, a woman, could see that, but Old Man Li didn't, and hurriedly pushed her out. After all, one should think twice before doing anything!
The sun had already climbed overhead, and it was no longer as cold as it had been in the morning. Tao Xiaoxi, who had been lying down for three days, stretched his back and looked up at the sun - the weather was fine, perfect for beating the villain.
She lifted the quilt and finally stretched her muscles, but she felt a chill from the soles of her feet. She looked down and saw that she was not wearing shoes!
This was something Tao Xiaoxi had neglected. Just as she was feeling frustrated, a person was walking towards her from afar. Tao Xiaoxi looked closely and found that it was none other than Li's eldest sister-in-law Zhou Lan, who was walking towards her with a headscarf wrapped around her head.
As they got closer, her sister-in-law smiled at her, and Tao Xiaoxi also smiled at her. Zhou Lan's face turned red instantly, as if she remembered something embarrassing.
"The weather is very cold, you can wear my shoes." Zhou Lan said softly.
"Then what are you wearing?" Tao Xiaoxi asked confidently.
"I, I have more at home. I'll go home and wear it." Zhou Lan responded restrainedly.
"How about this, can you help me find someone?"
"Who?"
Tao Xiaoxi whispered in Zhou Lan's ear for a while.
"Can you do it?"
"Whether it's possible or not, just tell me what you want to know. I have my own way to deal with the rest."
"Oh, that's fine." After saying that, the sister-in-law just stood there without moving.
"Is there anything else?" Tao Xiaoxi asked.
Zhou Lan looked around and her face turned red again.
Tao Xiaoxi saw this and seemed to understand something. "Do you still want the herbs I left under the window that day?"
Zhou Lan wrung her hands and nodded with difficulty, "If you still have some, I'll buy it for you."
"That's not necessary. Just help me pass this message on. I will definitely give you the medicine when the time comes."
"Okay!" This time Zhou Lan was decisive and straightforward. As if she was afraid that Tao Xiaoxi would go back on her word, she nodded and left quickly.
Tao Xiaoxi wrapped herself in the quilt. Now it seemed that she had no choice but to go into the house to get her shoes. Although she didn't want to see Sun Wangcai at all, she had to face it sooner or later. Thinking of this, she moved towards the door with trembling feet.
No one would say that Sun Wangcai is a bastard. When his wife came back alive, he not only didn't go to the house to pick her up, he even refused to open the door. He let Tao Xiaoxi knock on the door barefoot in the cold wind for a long time but he didn't open the door.
The plan that Tao Xiaoxi had originally prepared in her mind could not hold up under the humiliation of reality. She wished she could cut Sun Wangcai into pieces right away. If her eyes could spit fire, the Sun family would have been reduced to a sea of fire.
"Sun Wangcai, open the door!" Tao Xiaoxi shouted, this shout was more or less filled with resentment and anger. Although it was still in the plan, it was really cowardly.
She heard a baby girl crying in the house, but it soon disappeared. It was Beibei!
Tao Xiaoxi, who was only in her early twenties, was obviously not ready to be a mother. But when she thought that the child was born from her own body, she felt some sympathy and heartache. Her emotion instantly took over. She spotted the pile of firewood under the eaves, pulled out the biggest one and smashed it against the door.
There was a loud bang and the door shook three times.
The people inside the house never imagined that the person outside would dare to do this. How could they have the courage to jump into the river? Sun Wangcai's temper flared up, and he pulled out the bolt of the door with a snap, and confronted Tao Xiaoxi head-on.
Just as Tao Xiaoxi was about to bang a second time, she saw the door open. She took a look at the man standing before her and couldn't help but snort, her disdain clearly written on her face. She'd thought this man looked so much like Pan An, the one who'd made Yao Youhua so proactive and devoted to him, but he was just a perfect-looking guy.
The first time Sun Wangcai saw Tao Xiaoxi, he took a step back. The person before him, with his hair disheveled and his face pale, dressed in white, truly looked like a ghost. After calming himself down and confirming that Tao Xiaoxi was indeed alive, he put on a ferocious expression.
"Are you looking for death? Are you thinking of rebelling?" Sun Wangcai was like a dog with its fur standing on end, growling and roaring, showing off his power in front of his wife.
If it were the Tao Xiaoxi of the past, his legs would have probably gone limp with fear, but things were different now. Tao Xiaoxi had been a demon king since he was a child. When it comes to temper, who doesn't have one?!
"Aren't we at home? I thought everyone had seen a ghost like me!" Tao Xiaoxi said, and without going in, she spoke at the top of her voice so that her voice could be heard as far as possible.
