Chapter 11 Taking the Blame for the Original Owner

You see, the original owner of this body was a renowned beauty in the surrounding villages. Some men would travel great distances just to catch a glimpse of her, and they even went so far as to find out her daily routine. Even the educated youth from the city praised her after seeing her, saying she surpassed the Four Beauties of ancient China. If it weren't for her jealous younger sister interfering back then, she and Shen Ying would never have gotten together.

This marriage was considered a step up for Shen Ying, and out of guilt, he was extremely obedient to the original owner after the marriage, granting her every wish. It wasn't until that man appeared that the truth of the whole affair gradually surfaced. The original owner had only used him to please Lu Yi. The shameful things between them had already been widely circulated in the village since his first year in the army.

The two children were conceived at the instigation of that man, who wanted to seize control of the family finances so that the original owner could squander them on him.

Shen should turn a blind eye to these things, as long as she treats the children well, everything can be forgiven. But the woman's actions have already hurt the two children, and no matter how soft-hearted he is, he cannot stand idly by.

The peaceful scene inside made the man in front of him wonder if he had entered the wrong room.

The candlelight was dim, casting a faint glow on Jiang Yu's face, making her eyes sparkle. She seemed still reeling from the shock. Her face was deathly pale, and her hand holding the stick was still trembling.

Shen Ying stared at her, trying to see another expression on her face. Suddenly, he remembered what the village chief had said. Jiang Meier had only been here for a short time, and he guessed that she was telling him that she was going home in a couple of days, and that she was doing this specifically to show him.

Thinking of this, his expression returned to its usual indifference.

Jiang Yu took a while to calm herself before daring to look at the man. He was 1.85 meters tall and wore a military uniform. His eyebrows and eyes were exquisite, and his eyelashes were long and thick. His facial features were clean, with a high and straight nose; there wasn't a single flaw on his face. However, his complexion was very bad, giving off a sense of oppression.

Jiang Yu felt that the original owner of this body was simply ungrateful to have such a handsome husband who handed over his salary.

Would you like to have dinner together?

To ease the awkwardness, she blurted it out.

"Um."

The male protagonist responded coldly, his voice exceptionally pleasant, without the slightest embarrassment. When he returned, there were no more buses; he had walked for a full three hours.

Exhausted from the physical exertion and the fact that I hadn't eaten dinner, I was starving.

Shen Suisui thoughtfully brought Shen Ying a bowl and chopsticks. Jiang Yu put down the stick in her hand, took the bowl and chopsticks, and served the man rice. There was not much communication between them.

The children sensed the awkward atmosphere, picked at the rice in their bowls, and secretly glanced at the expressions of the two.

Shen Ying took the bowl, and a fragrant aroma wafted up. He had eaten out with his superiors at business dinners before, and the food from the state-run restaurants never smelled as good as this.

After finishing the bowl, along with the leftover flatbread and meat from lunch, it was incredibly satisfying. Having eaten his fill, Shen Ying slowly began to speak:

"How much did these dishes cost?"

Even if Jiang Yu can't cook, she probably won't be able to satisfy her appetite. Besides, knowing she's coming home tonight, she's bound to go to great lengths to prepare something special. And the most effective thing to change someone's mood is a sumptuous meal.

In this respect, Shen Ying had to admire the person who gave her advice.

"Mom made it herself."

Jiang Yu was still pondering how to start the conversation when Shen Niannian beat her to it. In his eyes, his mother had been practically omnipotent these past two days; not only did she cook delicious meals, but she also spoke in a gentle and soft voice.

Shen Ying didn't react for a moment. He held Shen Niannian close to his side and patiently educated her:

"Children must not lie, or they will be thrown into the deep mountains to be eaten by wolves."

After saying that, she didn't forget to glare at Jiang Yu. With her skill level, it would be quite an achievement if she could boil a kettle of water, let alone cook a meal; that was simply a pipe dream.

What's even more infuriating is teaching young children to lie. Children as young as Sui Sui and Niannian are at an age where they are very good at imitating, and once they go astray, it's very difficult to correct them later.

Shen Ying grew angrier the more she thought about it, which intensified her dissatisfaction with Jiang Yu.

Jiang Yu sensed the unfriendly gaze, looked up to meet it, and saw that the man was trying to figure her out with a petty mind. All goodwill she felt towards him vanished.

The previous behavior was the original owner's fault, so we can't let her take the blame, can we?

"No, you can ask your sister if you don't believe me."

Shen Niannian glanced at Shen Ying in her childish voice, almost crying from his sour face. He was eager to defend himself, even dragging his sister out as a witness.

Shen Sui Sui's expression was somewhat complicated. If her father only came home during the annual leave, she believed that her mother was indeed making good changes. But now, she also suspected that her mother was deliberately putting on a show for her father.

However, when it comes to the meals I've had these past two days, it's definitely my mom who cooked them.

When Shen Sui Sui saw her father looking at her, she nodded firmly. Children shouldn't lie; she told the truth.

The village chief is highly respected; he wouldn't send a message to the army unless something serious had happened. The child in front of me doesn't seem to be lying either. So what exactly happened?

Jiang Yu sat quietly across from him, sipping her noodle soup, ignoring the man's questioning gaze. She couldn't very well say she wasn't his wife, but someone who had transmigrated, could she? If she did, she'd definitely be locked up as a mental patient.

Shen Ying noticed that the woman was much more elegant than usual, and figured that perhaps spending so much time in the military had changed her. Besides, whether she wanted to change to please Lu Yi or something else, he couldn't tell.

After dinner, Jiang Yu prepared to get up and clear the table, but the man took the dishes first and went to the outer room right under her nose.

Hearing the sounds of washing coming from next door, Jiang Yu glanced at the dark sky outside and froze for a moment.

It's so late, he definitely won't go back. But there's only one bed at home, so where will he stay if he doesn't leave?

Sharing a bed? That's way too outrageous!

Although they already have a child together, she's not the original owner of this body, and there are some things she can't accept. But if she brings it up, will the other person overthink it?

Thinking about whether there was a better way, the man dried his hands and went inside.

He looked around the room and thought the candlelight was a bit dim. He figured if this woman really had changed, he might be able to apply for a family compound, where the environment was much better.

But he couldn't take that risk now. If Jiang Yu went crazy again, his military career would be over, and his two children would starve. Besides, when he brought it up with her before, she always refused, citing her lack of freedom. Shen Ying knew it was all for that man.

She sat back on the edge of the bed and found Jiang Yu looking her over. Those round eyes shone like stars in the darkness.

When she saw the man walk in and get into bed, her heart was pounding in her throat.

"Aren't you going back?"

Even though she already knew the answer, she still wanted to ask again.

The man stopped taking off his shoes, glanced at her thoughtfully. Was she going to remain chaste for that man?

"Don't worry, I'll sleep in the same bed with Niannian, I won't touch you."
